She didn’t understand she had been kidnapped and brought into another dimension, did she? Lucille mentally asked.

Isidora sat near Mr. Stevenson, gently caressing him, and looked at Lucille. No, she thought in reply. I’m sure she didn’t. Then she turned to Aurora and told her, “I guess a beautiful cartoon is starting right now on the television.”

“Uh? What's that?” Aurora replied, not giving her much attention, too busy changing Mrs. Daisy's clothes.

“Tell me, what would you like to watch?” the old witch asked.

“Er... Chicken and Cow!” Aurora exclaimed without lifting her eyes from her doll.

“Oh. I don't understand their offbeat humor,” Isidora mumbled, turning to Lucille with a displeased expression. Then she added aloud, “What a coincidence! Right now on television they are showing one episode of Chicken and Cow you haven't seen yet, and it is said to be the best of the series. Moreover, a chocolate ice cream cone topped with sprinkles is waiting for you. Lucille will come downstairs as well.”

“Really? Yeaaaah!” Aurora rushed off of bed; then she suddenly halted and turned to her mom with a frown.

“Go,” Kim told her, caressing her head. “I'll come downstairs in a few minutes.”

  Lucille and Aurora headed downstairs.

“So, what happened?” Kim slowly pushed aside the soft, light blanket that someone had covered her with, and sat up next to Isidora.

The old witch looked down, inspecting her hands lying on her lap. She then slowly removed her glasses, which she repeatedly wiped with a corner of her shirt.

  “My dear,” she stopped.

Kim peeked at Isidora with damp eyes. “I understand there's something terribly important you forgot to tell me. All this... magical stuff doesn't come without bad consequences, does it?” She buried her face in her hands.

“Please, tell me I can go back to my normal life!” she exclaimed in a strained voice. “Isidora! Tell me I can have back my old life, because I don't want to have anything to do with all this. I don't want anything to happen to Aurora and me.” She stood up and started walking up and down in her room.

The old witch talked with a soft voice. “We are a peaceful people, Kim. All of us, and nothing is going to happen to you again. Nor to Aurora. I promise, and this promise is made on behalf of all the witches on earth. But there will always be people who don't understand and don't want to know who is different, or better, who think differently. It's up to us to help them to understand us and our reasons. Our heart. And learn to understand them. I cannot tell you more than this right now.”

Kim rubbed her hand through her hair and looked at Isidora who added, “We are with you, my dear, and won't let anything else happen to you. Or to Aurora. Trust me, please. Trust us. You are safe now. There's just as much protection around you and your family as anyone else in all history has had. Don't be afraid.”

“I suppose I cannot do anything else but trust you, can I?” She made a sad smile and came across to Isidora, who stood up and they hugged tenderly.

Kim freed herself from Isidora's arms and told her, “Now I have to make a call. Do you mind?”

“I'll go downstairs. I can't wait to watch that beautiful cartoon,” Isidora laughed.

“Please, tell Aurora I'll be with her in a minute,” Kim said while picking up her phone.

  “Mom?”

Linda answered after many rings in a low voice. “My gosh, Kim. I'm in the middle of a meeting, and I had to get out. You never call me at this time of the day, and your call scared me. What happened?”

“Mom, I forgot to tell you something,” Kim said in a breath.

“Kim, how many times shall I tell you that you should at least try to be present to yourself? You aren't a kid anymore. You cannot always be so absent-minded. So what did you forget? I hope it's something important, I had to interrupt a meeting!”

“I love you, Mom,” Kim whispered. She heard her mother holding her breath for few seconds.

“I love you too, Kim; I love you too.”
