Then he listened with admiration while the blond heiress cussed for seven minutes straight, without ever once repeating herself. It was a championship bout of cuss-words, and Val Petrie only wished he had been taking it all down.
“You mean they’re on their way back to Knickerbocker City, and I’m stuck here in London?” she yelled.
“I’m afraid so, miss,” confessed Petrie. “Unless you might be persuaded to let me take you out to dinner and show you the town, in the absence of your friends ...?”
Phoenicia softened. Petrie sounded interesting, and maybe it wouldn’t do Zarkon much good if she made him a little bit jealous. She would make certain that he heard of their date if it killed her!
She accepted with pleasure, named her hotel, and hung up.
Collecting her luggage, she engaged a taxi and went to the hotel of her choice. It happened to be none other than the Cumberland Towers, at which Zarkon’s first adventure in this country had commenced.
What the heck, so long as she was stuck in this country overnight, she might as well enjoy herself!
After a quick shower, while climbing into an off-the-shoulder and very backless evening dress that left a breathtaking vista of bare, tanned girl flesh exposed, Miss Phoenicia Mulligan began to relax and be philosophical about the fact of missing out on the fun this time.
After all, Zarkon being Zarkon, and the Omega men being the Omega men, there would always be another adventure.
