  With no words to comfort them, he stood up and gazed off towards the marketplace. When without warning, they were enveloped by a sudden stillness in the air that unnerved the waiting soldiers. Mist swirled in to block their view and hamper the sniper’s lines of sight.

  Sensing something unnatural was happening, Talmen waved his men to their feet.

  The mist grew thicker and thicker blinding them. Talmen tried to call out to his squad, but his voice was muffled by the mist. The air grew colder and colder until his teeth were rattling in his mouth. Wrapping his arms around himself he tried to see through the mist, praying the Orcs were not sneaking up on them. When a powerful gust of air blew the mist away and what he saw had his eyes bulging and his mouth gaping wide enough to fit a baby bird.

  The settlement had vanished, and was replaced by a desert that stretched out for miles and miles without end. Cries of astonishment and gasps of wonder broke the silence that had enveloped them. Making him realize he was not alone. All the survivors from the settlement and the tower were here as well.

  “Where are we?” whispered Katie in bewilderment.

  Talmen shook his head and gazed up at the sky where four suns stood above him blistering the air with their heat and didn’t know how to reply. He had no idea…

  Rashed Abdelmalak was born in Egypt 1987, moved to Australia in 1988. Received his education at the University of Western Sydney where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree.
