Not That Kind of Love

“Jamie… Jamie… Jamie…” I breathed. His breath was heavy and strained in my hair. We rested against each other for what seemed like an eternity, him still inside me, still semi hard. If I moved, he would grow inside of me again, give me the world again. “Jamie.” I murmured against the wet skin of his chest, placing soft kisses there, my eyes still closed and my heart finally slowing to a normal pace. His hips worked slowly against me, started the build deep in my belly again. “Jamie, I…can’t.” I murmured, exhausted.
“You can sweetheart and you will.” He slid in and out of me slowly in long, languorous, assiduous strokes. He was filling me, stretching me, thrilling me again. Another orgasm circled again, this one lighter, shyer, easier. It wouldn’t be the torrent of sensation as the others. This one would be long and easy, lasting. This one would satiate every cell in my body and turn every last muscle to unusable jelly. I moaned into his mouth when I came this time, Jamie came at the same time. His big warm body rested against me, comforted me. Jamie eased out of me, kissing my swollen lips sweetly. “I love you Michelle.” His forehead rested on mine and his inky sapphire eyes gazed into mine. He kissed me again and turned the water off once he’d rinsed us then handed me a towel. I wrapped it around me and padded to my bathroom. I brushed out my wet hair, used the hair dryer, and took care of my feminine issues. I pulled a tee shirt over my head and put fresh panties on before climbing into bed beside him. He was waiting for me, watching me, his eyes admiring me. I crawled across the bed and kissed his cheek. Jamie pulled me alongside him and we slept.
Jamie fit in nicely at the office. The staff took to him quickly, I could understand that, he’s a great guy, he’s one of the boys and he draws people out of their shells making them comfortable. Jamie is a stickler for details, policy and procedure. A straight arrow my Dad would say. His father always said that he was too serious but I didn’t think so. Jamie didn’t lie, cheat or try to circumvent the rules. In his mind rules meant order and everything had an order. When Kristin tried to put some of the work that Jamie assigned her off on Matt he was upset. The work was given to her and he expected her to complete it. We argued about it but in the end it would be his decision, he was the department head. It really didn’t matter who did the work so long as it was completed on time and correctly as far as I was concerned. If employees were happier doing different tasks on occasion it only lead to better morale.
“Why are you defending her Mich? Why are you trying to champion her cause? Why aren’t you on my side?” He hissed over lunch behind my closed office door. I calmly chewed the sandwich he made for me this morning and sipped my water.
“Jamie,” I said when I’d swallowed. “Did you specifically say Kristin I want you to do this?” He shook his head chewing. “Well, it is common practice in this office that the workers trade jobs around. Some prefer doing certain things and some don’t. It has never been an issue in the past and since you didn’t say I want you to do it, she assumed that it was okay. Instead of blowing up at her like you are about to, simply say, Kristin when I give you work, I expect you to do it and only you. I realize it is common to trade work about but I do not want my projects treated that way. Then I suggest you give her the thousand watt smile that you only save for me. And Jamie, just because I am defending her position, it doesn’t mean that I am not on your side. Your side is the only one that I am on.” I reached across the desk and squeezed his hand and his eyes softened.
“Okay. I won’t be too hard on her. How do I make her my permanent personal assistant?”
“Offer her the position, a raise and a cubicle outside of your door. Are you sure it’s Kristin that you want? You two sound like you got off to a bumpy start.”
“Oh we haven’t bumped yet. She does good work though and I want her to take the position.”
“Are you sure that she did the work that you think is so good? You may want to ask who did it then you have to offer it to her and you should probably speak to anyone else that may want the position. Talk to Robichaux and see what he thinks before you do anything.” He nodded and finished his water. I watched his Adam’s apple bob as he swallowed. “Do you know how hot that is?” I whispered. The corners of his mouth lifted and his eyes twinkled mischievously.
“Can I sit in your knee hole Mich and bury my face in your lap for the rest of the day?” My face went puce.
“Jamie,” I hissed. “You can’t say stuff like that at work.”
“Why not? No one can hear me except you and now you have something to think about for the rest of the afternoon. When we get home Mich, I am going to bury myself inside of you before we get past the kitchen.” He stood up grinning at me over his shoulder and left. I sat there with my mouth hanging agape. My internal muscles clenched at the thought and my heartbeat sped up frantically. I needed to run before I exploded, I needed to expel this stress. An hour later I got a text from Jamie, are you thinking about it? I texted back, no I went to the ladies room and took care of it. I sat there giggling until a Moment later he was in my doorway. “Did you?” I laughed when he asked. “Did you Mich?”
“I’ll never tell.” I turned back to my computer to work on the email I was writing.
“You did not, you’re lying to me.” He murmured hotly against my ear. I gasped and chewed on my bottom lip. “Don’t lie.” He kissed my cheek and left. My cheeks were pink and my heartbeat erratic again. Fourteen words and my panties were damp, ten more words against my ear and I would probably climax. He could make a gelatinous mess of me anytime he liked. I went back to my email again. There was one from Hannah. She arrived safely and her sister was in a coma. Hannah would stay in touch.
“Crap.” I muttered. I was going to need a temporary replacement. This could go on for some time. I composed an email to Robichaux and Jamie. I requested a temporary replacement for Hannah since she would be gone for some time. I requested a pay bump and a flexible schedule for them. Hopefully I would have a replacement by the end of the week. I went to fill my coffee cup and found the pot empty. Hannah usually took care of this. I filled the pot and turned it on. I waited there with my empty cup. I watched the machine drip coffee into the carafe slowly. My phone buzzed in my pocket it was another text from Jamie. It said where the hell you are? I texted back coffee machine was empty and I’m waiting for a cup. He and Robichaux came around the corner together then. I smiled at them. “Gentlemen.” Jamie’s brow furrowed but he didn’t say anything
“Michelle, I have no problem with someone taking Hannah’s responsibilities temporarily but the rest of your request, the flex hours and the pay bump are not feasible.” I nodded. “You can tap anyone you like for the job. It doesn’t matter as long as they are from the accounting pool.” I nodded again. Jamie chewed the inside of his cheek. Something else was wrong, something that wasn’t being said.
“Thank you, sir.” I watched them both carefully as they walked away. I sent a text to Jamie, it said WTF? The immediate response was wait don’t move. It was in all capital letters. He didn’t want me to pick anyone yet. I filled my coffee cup and went to my desk closing the door behind me. I worked on spreadsheets, charts and reconciling accounts for the rest of the day. Jamie stuck his head in the door at six.
“Ready?” I looked up startled. I’d lost track of time again.
“Jamie why did you…” He shook his head slightly and with a barely imperceptible move of his head, I gathered my belongings, powered my computer off and switched the lights off. I followed Jamie silently to the elevator. We said nothing until we got into the Mustang and pulled out of the parking lot. “What the hell is going on?” I finally said.
“You couldn’t choose from the pool when you started here, none of them were good enough or met your specifications now suddenly you want to ask for volunteers. Robichaux is questioning Hannah’s employment. She makes more than any of the others except his secretary and he had to give her a raise to make it that way.” I let out a long breath and rolled my eyes. I was already mentally searchin
g the want ads. “Don’t do that.”
“What?” I asked staring out my window.
“Run. Don’t run off half cocked and pissed. Robichaux likes you, he respects you, don’t bolt.”
“Why shouldn’t I? I brought Hannah with me because she is an excellent assistant. She is more qualified than anyone else working there and that includes Molly.” He gave me a look. “Robichaux’s secretary.” He nodded. “If Hannah goes, so do I. It’s that simple. I need a temporary replacement to keep my calendar, make coffee and remind me of meetings. I’m not asking for someone to do her job, just to fill in as best they can for a brief time. I need flex hours because my hours are not set, I need a pay bump as incentive. If my actions are being questioned by the boys then I will bolt as you said, I will not be treated as less because I am female.” Jamie was nodding. He took a deep breath.
“What if we did this, tap various people in your department. Joe makes coffee, Mike keeps the calendar and reminds you of meetings, I will let you know when to eat and leave, Carol can do your typing etc…” I lifted a brow and smiled.
“Very good Mr. Flanagan, then I can say that I had to tap fifteen individuals to do Hannah’s job. I will make sure that the ones I tap do it not quite right to justify Hannah even more.” He was nodding now.
“Nicely played, we haven’t discussed any of this. You will simply say if you are asked that since you couldn’t offer the pay bump, you thought it more prudent to split the responsibilities amongst the team. Do you need anything else from me?”
“Oh yes I think I do. I would like to take a run when I get home, I would like you to fulfill your obligation.” His face scrunched up.
“We’ll have to go later though, I am expecting a delivery, remember, it should be here anytime.” He pulled into the garage and hit the button to drop the door. Jamie unlocked the door to go into the house, I followed him. He went to the kitchen and put his lunch box away then plugged in his cell phone. I did the same. He grabbed me from behind before I could leave the kitchen. His mouth was against my ear. “Do you remember what I said?” His fingers were gently easing my skirt up. I nodded and tried to turn around. “No sweetheart, just like this.” My pulse sped up frantically and I gripped the counter as he pushed into me. He wasted no time. His tongue traced over my ear as he did, then he mouthed my throat. His fingers laced into mine on the edge of the counter. Jamie pounded into me from behind making me come more quickly than I’d hoped. His climax was a grunted sigh just as someone knocked on the front door. “Mmm perfect.” He kissed my cheek and zipped up. Jamie’s clothes weren’t even mussed. He looked as fresh and unwrinkled as he had when we’d left this morning. Sometimes he was so irritating. He was letting a man in with a dolly loaded with boxes. I went to my bedroom and closed the door. When they finished we could take our run. I stretched out on the bed once I’d changed to wait for Jamie.
“Mich, come see.” He shook me gently. I could see it was nearly dark outside, how long had I napped? I let him pull me up. My treadmill was set up beside a weight machine. “That’s for the abs.” I shook my head, who was I to argue, I loved them as much as he did. He pulled me into the spare bedroom and showed me the new bed already made. I touched the dark wood with my fingers, it was nice. “Come on, one more.” My brows crinkled, he hadn’t told me about the weight machine and now there was more. His account was bleeding money as far as my inner accountant was concerned. We went out the back door to the cement patio. Jamie had a free standing basketball hoop out there. The new orange basketball rested at its base. He went to pick it up and bounced it. He was wearing shorts and a tee shirt. He bounced the ball from hand to hand bent over it aggressively. He tossed it to me. “Take it out Mich.” I spun it around on my finger tip, a skill that took me a year of practice to perfect. “You haven’t forgotten that useless skill I see, now take it out.” I bounced the ball. Jamie pulled a red base ball hat out of his back pocket and put it on his head backwards. He was crouched over again blocking the basket. God he was beautiful. I stood there like a girl and bounced the ball testing it. He started toward me arms out. I just stood there and bounced, not moving and playing coy. He couldn’t touch me until I moved. Starting toward me again I spun in the other direction and took it around him and sunk it.
“Nothing but net Flanagan.” I tossed it to him. I knew it would be the last time I got to shoot. I was no match for Mr. six foot four. His wing span was longer than I was. It always goaded him though that I could get that first shot off on him though. I was good for one. I gave him an effective block and I made him work for it, but I knew that I wouldn’t see that ball again until the next time we played. “I’m ready for my run Jamie.” I said after twenty minutes. He put the ball down at the base of the net stand and nodded. He locked the doors and came out onto the front porch to join me. We jogged easily toward the park. I kept it slow and easy. Jamie had not run in years. We’d gone a mile before he eased into my pace and picked up speed. Since he was so much taller Jamie didn’t have to run as fast as I did to cover the same distance. “How are you Jamie?”
“I’m not dead yet. How far are we going? My knee is starting to ache.” I’d forgotten about that, the baseball injury.
“See the yellow sign,” I pointed, “the exit is just past it and then we’re a block from home.” Jamie slowed to a walk and I jogged beside him slowly. I could see his knee swelling. I pulled his arm around me and tucked myself into his side. “Lean on me if you need to.” I had and arm around his waist. There was no way that I would be able to carry him if he fell. He was too big. Jamie squeezed me to him.
“What do you want for dinner?” I glanced up at him curiously. “I’m thinking chicken breast.” He said.
“How’s your knee?” I was more worried about him than dinner.
“It will be fine Mich, don’t worry. It was probably too much with the bouncing around in the back yard then the jogging. Next time I won’t do both on the same day. Now, dinner, what would you like?” I shrugged. I was worried about his knee. I didn’t want to be the reason he was in pain, not again. I went straight to the freezer and prepared an ice pack when we got home. Jamie was on the couch with his foot propped up on my coffee table. I brought him a bottle of water, two ibuprofens and the ice pack which I settled on his fat knee. I wiped myself off with a towel as I went back into the kitchen. I seasoned chicken breast and put it into a grill pan. I put yellow rice and black beans onto simmer. Once the chicken was cooked, I let it rest under foil for a few minutes. I drank a bottle of water and took another to Jamie on the couch. He was flipping through channels faster than he could see what was on them. I readjusted his ice pack and took the empty bottle to the recycle bin. Once I’d sliced the chicken I put it onto tortillas with cheese and popped them into the oven for a few minutes. My timer rang for the rice and I got two plates down from the cabinet. I brought Jamie’s dinner to him on a tray and set it across his lap. “Oh yeah now that’s what I’m talking about! Waiting on your man, Mich, that’s my girl.” He smiled up at me. “Bring yours and sit with me.” I put my dinner on a tray and went to sit beside him. I checked his knee again before I started to eat. The swelling had gone down and I felt better about it.
Chapter 15
The next morning I was laying my work clothes out on the bed when Jamie came to find me. “What the fuck is this?” He was holding a small round peach box. “I found this in your bathroom cabinet. What gives?”
“They’re birth control pills.” I could see he was angry, but didn’t know why. “What’s wrong?” I went to the dresser and selected my underwear.
“Why are you taking them?” Anger flashed dangerously in his eyes.
“Jamie? Are you angry with me? Because you look like you are.” He gave me one of those looks that said you’re the stupidest woman I’ve ever met. “What’s wrong?” I slid the panties up over my legs and reached for my bra.
“I told you that I wanted to settle down, I told you that I wanted to be married and potty tra
ining something. So, what the hell are these doing in your bathroom?”
“Jamie, we aren’t married yet. I don’t want to be pregnant before I get married.”
“Why not? It takes nine months, we can get married and …” He stopped when he saw my face.
“Jamie, you have this all decided, I understand that your clock is ticking and all but it is my body and I am not ready yet. Remember you kind of sprang this on me. I want to be married at least six months before I get pregnant.”
