As I trod water, thinking about sampling all that life threw at me like these rolling waves—the good we did in Sudan and the good we failed to do, the good we might have done for the Congo, affairs with Simon, Neil, Ayako—I spotted a guy on the beach. He strolled along and tried not to make too big a deal out of checking me out.
