Original Secrets

  “Almost.”

I pulled my hands from his, wrapped my arms around his neck, and kissed him long and deep. His lips were soft, his mouth urgent. I grabbed handfuls of his blonde curls and held on so he couldn’t pull away. I pressed my body against his. Electric tingles coursed through me as his hands slid from my shoulders, down my back, over my hips, and back up again. When we were both breathless and reaching the point of being unable to stop, I held one last long kiss to his mouth and pulled away.

He rested his forehead against mine, his breathing heavy. “I like it when you go digging.”

I laughed. “I know this is going to sound insane after that kiss, but I need to take this slow.”

He parted his lips, surely about to say something about how we had been taking it slow, so I placed a finger to his mouth and locked eyes with his light hazel ones.

“One thing I know I can trust,” I began, “are my instincts, and my instincts are telling me that we could be really good together. I want to go slow and take in every minute of us. I want to explore us without rushing. I want us to keep slowly unfolding to each other the way we have been. I want to be with you without missing anything.” A feeling of extreme vulnerability hit me. “Is that okay?”

He pushed my finger away, placed his hands on either side of my face, and kissed me long and slow again. “I’m along on this ride, every step of the way. If you want a slow, winding journey, you’ve got it.”

There was something in his tone. “But?”

“But I have no intention of taking it easy on you. Fair warning: the next time you’re around when I’m coming out of the shower, I may not bother with a towel.”

At that moment, a single blast of wind blew in off the lake. It made the pines lean back-and-forth, side-to-side, their branches and needles whispering together. Almost like they were cheering in agreement.

Stay tuned. More Secrets are coming . . .

  Bio

Suspense and fantasy author Shawn McGuire started writing after seeing the first Star Wars movie (that's episode IV) as a kid. She couldn't wait for the next installment to come out so wrote her own. Sadly, those notebooks are long lost, but her desire to tell a tale is as strong now as it was then. She grew up in the beautiful Mississippi River town of Winona, Minnesota, called the Milwaukee area of Wisconsin (Go Pack Go!) home for many years, and now lives in Colorado where she is a total homebody. She loves to read, craft, cook and bake, and spend time in the spectacular Rocky Mountains. You can learn more about Shawn’s work on her website www.Shawn-McGuire.com
