Ryan joined Basir near the utility room. “Did you finish it?”
“I made it this afternoon.” He handed over the ring.
Ryan studied it and grinned. “This is perfect. Thanks, man.”
“You are welcome.” Basir’s heart filled as he watched Ryan present the ring to his fiancée. Sara’s reaction was similar to Meghan’s when she received her ring, and Basir wondered why American women got so emotional over a piece of jewelry. Then, Meghan joined him and slipped her hand into his.
“Isn’t it wonderful?” she asked as she leaned lightly against him.
“That they are engaged? Yes.” He couldn’t be happier for his friend and future brother-in-law.
She looked up at him. “My mom, Sara, and I think a double wedding sometime around Christmas would be awesome.”
“What does Ryan think?” Basir had never heard of a double wedding, but if that was what she wanted...
“He thinks it’s a great idea too. What do you think?”
“Like I said earlier, we should do whatever makes you happy. As long as you become my wife, the details of the wedding aren’t important to me.”
“Then we’ll plan the double wedding. I can’t wait to marry you.” She gave him a quick kiss, and then tugged him over to join the group.
As preliminary discussions of the upcoming marriages flew around him, Basir smiled. He had been through war and pain and had hit the lowest point in his life, but God had remained with him through it all and brought him out of that dark pit into an amazing life filled with light and love. In the process, the honor Basir had thought completely destroyed had been redeemed.
He met Meghan’s gaze, his heart overflowing. “God is good.”
“Yes, He is.” She slipped an arm around him, and he knew he had found the place he belonged.
