When they broke their lip lock DeMarcus and Daphne joined them and other members of Wolfman's crew in the large booth. As the men talked loud and boisterously Daphne and Xyna eyed each other with undisguised contempt.

But while Daphne was all in her feelings about some backstabbing shit, outside of VIP a bitch much more dangerous than Xyna was seconds away from breathing up her ass.

  Chapter 20

  A Fatal Mistake

Bayonna stood across the room peeping Wolfman and his crew’s whole playing card, them niggas were sloppy. It was just a matter of time before all of their asses would be laying in polyester and pine. What really stirred her fire was the chic who was the center of attention. When did that bitch touch down? she wondered, recognizing Xyna immediately.

The cutthroat ass trick sat on her perch like a trophy on a shelf and Wolfman strutted around like a proud peacock.

When Bayonna's eyes settled on Daphne she saw that the girl had a pain and anger in her face that was borderline suicidal. She tried to mask it but every time Wolfman touched Xyna, Bayonna could see Daphne cringe. She didn't know what the beef was about but she knew that whatever it was paled in comparison to the problem Daphne was about to have out of her.

Bayonna watched and waited; she just needed a small window of opportunity to get Daphne away from the herd and then she would get out of her what Kiam obviously couldn’t. The funny thing about the hunt was even the hunter could become the prey, each one of them had a stronger and more evil eye on the other and the race was on to see who got to who first.

Wa'leek shooed one thirsty bitch after another away as he bid his time and waited for the perfect opportunity to make his move. He was still nursing the same drink, keeping a hawk's eye on Wolfman's whole squad. Finally he saw DeMarcus and his girl get up and drift away from the entourage and walk over to the main bar. Now was the time to step to the nigga and apply some pressure. Attack the chain by going after the weakest link.

DeMarcus jumped when he felt the strong hand clamp down on his shoulder. He turned and looked up.

“Dismiss this bitch so I can holla at you real quick.” Wa'leek said as he brought his glass to his mouth.

“Excuse you?” Daphne sat up looking at him with an evil glare.

“Bitch, you betta save all that attitude for one of these fag ass niggas, ‘cause I’m good. Hurry up and get the fuck outta here.” Wa'leek took a seat shooting daggers through those icy grey eyes.

Before she could say anything else DeMarcus put his hand on her leg and whispered something in her ear. She looked at him and shook her head. Sucking her teeth she slid past DeMarcus and stormed to the bathroom.

DeMarcus returned his attention to Wa'leek. “I never expected to see you back in Ohio,” he said with a hint of surprise in his voice. “And I see you haven't changed one bit, you're still disrespectful as hell.”

“Yeah, and I see you haven’t grown any balls since I last saw you,” Wa'leek jeered.

“Why are you here?” DeMarcus asked as sweat formed in the pit of his arms.

“Why you hiding behind that nigga Wolfman when he's the one that had your grandmother killed?” he asked, holding eye contact.

  “I'm just tryna eat.”

Wa'leek looked at him like he wanted to slap the fuck out of his bitch ass. “Nigga you're pitiful. You might as well put on a muhfuckin' thong and learn how to make it twerp,” he said with distaste.

  DeMarcus dropped his head.

Wa'leek stood there scouring at him. There was nothing that he despised more than a pussy ass nigga. “Fuck you scared of another man for? You got your weight up now, grow some balls and avenge that shit.”

“I'ma handle my business,” claimed DeMarcus, but even to his own ears it sounded empty.

Wa'leek shook his head. “I hear your people is with Big Zo. Why don't you rock with them?” He continued to try to sew dissension as a means to divide and conquer.

DeMarcus looked at him curiously. “I thought you were against Big Zo?” He sat back feeling safe surrounded by witnesses.

“I’m my own man. I don’t give a fuck 'bout none of them niggas. But I see you let Kiam come home and fuck you in the ass with Big Zo’s dick. How’s that working out for you? Maybe I should have brought you some Vaseline.” Wa'leek chuckled. “At any rate you owe me. And I’m going to be on your ass until you pay me what you owe.”

  “Owe you for what?”

“For keeping my mouth closed tight about your little secret. In return I need you to feed me any upfront info you have on Wolfman's moves. Also, I need for you to find out who those Blood Money niggas are affiliated with. And no is not an option.”

DeMarcus drew back. What Wa'leek was asking him to do was dangerous to even think about. Wolfman dealt with treason ruthlessly and Blood Money's rep was warning enough for him to stay out of their lane. He shook his head no. “You know I'm not no snitch.”

“I don’t give a fuck what title you give yourself. I'ma give you two weeks to bring me back some answers and if I don't hear from you I’ma pay your daddy, Kiam, a visit. I think he will love my honesty.”

DeMarcus sat looking at Wa'leek like he was the devil. “I need more time than that,” he said as his eyes darted around making sure the wrong set of ears wasn't passing by.

“Two weeks, not a day longer,” Wa'leek repeated. “I'll stop by your car lot.”

All of the color drained from DeMarcus' face.

Wa'leek looked up and saw Wolfman and a few of his boys headed past them. He leaned his elbows on the bar counter and ducked down out of sight. Before he eased on he gave DeMarcus a final warning. “Just remember muthafucka your bitch ass is in this shit deep. You think Kiam is on your ass you ain’t seen shit yet. Get me the information I need or I’ma make the rest of your days a living hell.”

Wa'leek stood watching Wolfman until he returned back in VIP before he moved to the door.

DeMarcus rested his head on his hands as fear filled his chest. Every way he turned a muthafucka was breathing on the back of his neck. Maybe it was time that he manned up, he thought as he ordered a drink and waited for Daphne to return.

  **********

Daphne stood at the sink with the water on blast fumbling through her clutch. She was so angry at DeMarcus that her hands shook and she dropped her lipstick into the sink. Quickly she fished it out and dried it off then began applying a fresh coat. There was no way she was remaining with his weak ass another day.

At the sink next to her two noticeably drunk women stood side by side chatting about which nigga they wanted to leave with. Their silly banter almost made Daphne throw up. And to think she had been just like them. Ugh!

She wondered which one of the chics was a snake like Xyna, willing to tell all of her girl's dirty little secrets in order to steal her man. The friends ended their conversation with a high five and left out to pursue a come up. The door closed behind them and Daphne dabbed a speck of lint that was on the corner of her mouth. Her eyes bulged when she saw the reflection behind her in the mirror.

“You’re a hard woman to catch up with,” said Bayonna, her voice had the effect of fingernails scrapping across a glass window.

Daphne shuddered then quickly regained her poise. “I don’t know why. I ain’t got no reason to hide,” she said, turning to face her in an effort to not miss anything that was coming her way.

“I can see right through you. Who made you set up Donella?” Bayonna asked, staring her in the eye.

“I didn’t set up anybody. You saw the evidence for yourself,” she said, clutching her purse tightly under her arm.

“Bitch don’t play with me. You know good and got damn well that shit was bogus. My girl wasn't fucking with Gator like that and she would've never betrayed us to Wolfman. You cost an innocent woman her life. And I think the only exchange for such ratchetness would be your life in return,” Bayonna responded ready to pull out and blast her right in her face.

  “I
told the truth.” Daphne maintained.

Bayonna's hand went inside her bag and her lip curled up. “Now I’ma ask you for the last time who put you on my girl?” she hissed.

“Look, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn't lie on your girl. What can I say? Sometimes the truth hurts.” She continued to stick to her story even though death was knocking on her door with both hands.

Bayonna knew the ho was lying, she bared her teeth and spat, “I wanted to have sympathy for you because I know that you are the piece of shit of the crew. You know, the bitch they pass like spliffs. But a grimy bitch like you deserves whatever is coming to you and I hope my hand is the one to serve it. How does it feel watching another bitch get all the glamour while you end up with fool’s gold?” Bayonna hurled, trying to anger her into blurting out the truth.

“You don’t know me,” Daphne’s voice trembled as the pain of Bayonna’s words cut into her heart.

“I know you're on borrowed time and the longer you hide the bitch responsible for my sister's death, the more painful yours will be. That's a fuckin' promise.”

Just as Daphne felt the urge to divulge a small piece of truth to save her soul, two girls fell through the door clawing, kicking and cursing at each other. “Bitch I saw you all up in my baby's daddy face. I'ma fuck yo thirsty ass up!” screamed one of the girls. She had a handful of the other girl's hair and was punching her in the face.

“Ho, let go of my hair!” cried the other. She reached up ripped the girl's shirt and her titties popped out.

A crowd spilled in behind them hooting, hollering, pushing and shoving to get a better view. “Beat that ho's ratchet ass!” someone yelled.

“Knee her in that stank pussy!”

Niggas was waving money over their heads tryna place bets on the fight. The two girls were breaking each other off. Daphne was pressed up against the sink while Bayonna was caught up between two stalls. Daphne used the opportunity to escape from Bayonna’s grasp. She squirmed her way through a sea of bodies and dashed out of the bathroom.

Bayonna was in hot pursuit but a second crowd of drunken onlookers bum rushed through the door and she got swept back inside. “Dammit! Get the fuck out of my way!” she screamed at a half-drunk man who was blocking her path.

“Yeah, talk dirty to me,” he slurred and pulled her into his arms.

She pushed away from him and whipped out her piece. “Fuck off of me nigga,” she spat.

Ol’ boy saw that big ass burner in her hand and he sobered up real quick. He threw his hands up in surrender and moved aside.

Bayonna slammed one in the chamber and held her gun chest high. “Make room muthafuckas,” she bossed and the crowd moved like a bald bitch’s hair line.

  **********

As soon as she realized Bayonna was no longer on her heels Daphne headed straight for the stairs. Fuck DeMarcus, he would find a way home. Descending down the stairs in a hurry, she turned sideways to keep from brushing up against partygoers that were headed up. When she got to the bottom of the stairs she glanced over her shoulder to make sure that Bayonna wasn’t behind her. Seeing that she wasn't, Daphne thanked her guardian angel and kept it moving.

“You leaving already?” Chino asked, lowering his eyes and licking his lips. “I was hoping to put something big and fat in your mouth tonight.”

“Put it in your mama's ass.” She pushed past him and flew out the door.

The nighttime air felt cold on her bare arms and for all she knew Bayonna was hot on her ass. Daphne wrapped her arms around herself and quickened her step. Again she glanced back over her shoulder. Not looking where she was going she bumped into someone and her purse fell to the ground. “Excuse me,” she apologized as she bent to retrieve it.

“It's cool. Why are you running?”

The familiar voice caused Daphne's eyes to shoot up. “Ooh shit!” she muttered and slowly stood straight.

  “What's up?”

Daphne didn't answer right away, she took off for the car. Her co-conspirator moved in step with her barely able to keep up. “What the fuck is you running for?” she asked, hurriedly catching up to Daphne.

Daphne was running out of breath and outta time. Panicking she turned and looked back towards the club's exit. “Your girl Bayonna is inside and the bitch cornered me off and started asking questions about who paid me to lie on Donella.” The stress in her voice caused her to stutter.

This bitch will break, concluded the woman at her side as she coyly slid her hand inside her purse.

  **********

Bayonna searched the club for Daphne but the bitch had disappeared like smoke. She saw DeMarcus posted up at the bar entertaining a couple of rats, but his ho was nowhere around. On a hunch Bayonna decided to check outside.

She moved through a crowd that was standing by the dance floor and took the stairs in double time. Stepping out of her heels at the door she picked them up and hurried outside.

Three gunshots cackled from a distance, alerting Bayonna's senses. The sound of squealing tires on gravel came from the rear of the parking lot. Bayonna pulled out her tool and raced barefooted towards the sound. Looking up she saw just a glint of a car's taillights as it zoomed out of the rear exit.

Her eyes darted around in search of Daphne. Then her legs began to move and she weaved through parked cars, headed further towards the back. Bayonna moved low and careful as she tried to regain her breath. When she reached the well-lit area she saw a body sprawled on the ground several parking spaces away.

“Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!” Bayonna uttered as she re-quickened her step. She knew what she would find even before her intuition was confirmed.

She stood over Daphne as others began to run in their direction. “You dumb bitch,” she sneered, looking down at her twisted form. Blood ran from a hole in the back of her head and two in the center of her back.

Bayonna shook her head but she felt no pity. Karma is a heartless bitch and I bet her real name is Lissha or Treebie.

She looked to the sky. “I'm going to find out which one it is Nella,” she said then moved back as the crowd formed around her.

  Chapter 21

  Subtle Signs

In the days immediately following Daphne's murder, Bayonna didn't have time to figure out anything because she had to make another run with JuJu. Lissha left to go visit and report to Big Zo, leaving Kiam and Treebie alone to watch each other's backs.

Though their relationship hadn't begun smoothly they had quietly earned each other's respect. Treebie knew that Kiam wasn't nothing nice and he acknowledged to himself, if not to her, that even though she didn't have a set of balls her gangsta was dick hard. Whatever retaliation Wolfman and them decided to send his way for the ongoing assaults on their teams, Kiam felt confident against it with Treebie by his side bustin' her gun. And if things got real hectic the Twins were always primed to put in that kinda work that left blood stains on the ground.

After being introduced to Isaiah and Isaac several weeks ago, Kiam had seen the proof of their sick murder game up close and personal. His mind flashed back to an incident a week ago.

Kiam and JuJu were coming out of a restaurant called the Shrimp Boat, headed back to the truck where the Twins waited. The nearly empty lot quickly became a small battle zone when two fools rolled up and hopped out of a car bustin' at them. Kiam dashed right and JuJu darted left, taking cover both of them snatched their whistles off their waists and rose to their feet with those toys going the fuck off.

In the face of return gunfire the two sloppy gunman quickly retreated to their car but never reached it. Isaac and Isaiah was out of the whip in a split second, running up behind them, guns blazing. They Swiss cheesed one gunner and treated the second one like a paper target. As both ill-trained hitmen lay on the ground dying Isaac stood over one and crushed him while Isaiah put a half of a clip in the other man's torso.

“Pussy muthafucka,” Isaiah spat, breathing like an angry bull.

  Kiam smiled at the memor
y of how quickly the brothers had reacted that night and how cool they were afterwards. Yeah, Wolfman and them could bring it on, Kiam had some killahs on his squad that craved that body bag shit and some of them rocked stilettos.

Rain drizzled down on the windshield as Kiam cruised down Treebie's block pulled in front of her house and called her to come outside. Treebie thanked God that Wa'leek had just pulled off minutes before Kiam's arrival; she definitely hadn't wanted to find out what a meeting between the two of them would result in.

She grabbed her jacket and a hat and ran to the car trying to avoid getting wet. When she jumped in the truck she took off her hat and shook her hair. “You know you must be pretty important ‘cause I don’t fuck with the rain,” Treebie said, going in Kiam’s glove compartment looking for napkins.

“Don’t be all in my shit.” He closed it and reached to the back and grabbed a hand towel from the pocket on the back of the seat.

“I don’t want no shit you use to clean up after your hoes.” Treebie gave the towel the side eye.

“I’m a boss nigga I get to nut all up inside my woman we don’t waste shit,” Kiam responded, putting the car in gear and pulling off.

“I don’t need all that extra information but thanks,” she said, wiping off her hands and dabbing at her clothes. “So what’s up?”

“Look, I know we never really talked about it after that shit happened with Donella. Nevertheless I respect your get-down. I know that it had to be hard for you to lay your girl to rest but a boss bitch makes decisions now so there won't be mistakes later.” Kiam came to a stop and looked over at her.

Treebie watched the wipers go back and forth as she filtered Kiam’s words through her mind. By the time he was ready to pull off she had formulated exactly what needed to be said.
