Nine of Wands-Tarot- The Staircase

by D. J. Manly

“Shush,” Tristan shook his head, reaching down and taking his chin in his hand. “That’s over now. I finally made it back here to you. I am content to die here now if I must, but not today,” he said, sinking down onto his knees and searching his face. “Not today, Trinity,” he moaned, burying his face in Trinity’s neck.

Trinity’s strong arms wrapped around him. He felt his furious kiss on his forehead, then a deep groan found Trinity pressing him back on the soft earth. He looked up at the blue sky, at the blueness of Trinity’s eyes, and he realised there was no difference. Looking into his eyes had always been heaven.

Soft lips kissed their way now down his neck, pausing to tongue each nipple slowly, playfully while a hand cupped his balls, fondled his cock. Trinity’s passion seemed to grow from a slow sensuous throb to a frenzy of need as the lips grew more impatient, the fondling rougher. This was the Trinity he knew, and could never get enough of.

He was between his thighs now, wrenching them apart, moaning, “God, yes, Tristan, I want your cock. I want your ass. So beautiful.” A finger plummeting up inside of him, causing his back to arch. One hand slapped at his cock, moving it back and forth, the stinging causing him to cry out with an urgent need which plunged him immediately back into his youth. “Trinity.”

A mouth devoured his cock, lips smacking around his erection as if it were a succulent piece of meat as the finger in his ass began to frantically fuck him. “Do you know what seeing you like that last night did to me?” Trinity hissed, lifting Tristan’s legs onto his shoulders, continuing to move his finger in and out. “Your flesh, all slick and oily like that, those diamonds on your nipples, your cock so thick and accessible. I wanted to fuck you hard, so back…” he groaned, increasing the speed of his finger.

  Tristan thrashed.

Trinity slapped at his cock again. “You are so hard, baby,” he whispered. “Beautiful cock. I’ve dreamt of your cock all these years. You want me?”

“Yes,” was all he could manage, his cock aching. “Fuck me, Trinity. Fuck me!”

The finger disappeared. Trinity looked down in his eyes, holding them as he pressed his erection against Tristan’s anus. His cock sliced into him without any more hesitation and the sensation practically pulled him off the ground. Their furious fucking echoed in the silent field around them, and Tristan was caught up in the roar of Trinity’s orgasm as he cried out with each orgasmic thrust of his hips. The beauty of that tree was no match for the beauty of Trinity’s face as he moaned his contentment, running a tongue over his lips and rolled over on his back beside him on the ground.

They were both silent for awhile, listening to the peaceful movement of the wind in the trees. There were no words to describe how much Tristan loved Trinity, and he was reassured now that Trinity loved him back. He closed his eyes. What ever happened now, they’d face it together, the way it should have always been.

Tristan suddenly turned on his side to gaze at him. “Tell me about when you walked in on them?”

Trinity turned his head towards him. “Our fathers?”

  “Yes.”

When I was fifteen. My father must have forgotten to lock the door. Do you remember when your family came to celebrate my father’s birthday?”

  “Yes.”

  “It was then.”

  “Did they see you?”

“Yes. They tried to cover it up, but they were kissing when I saw them, quite passionately.”

“Do you think they were in love?”

  “Yes. It explained a lot.”

Tristan reached over and took Trinity’s hand. “You mentioned that your uncle…”

“I think he found out and threatened my father. He was never in favour of closer ties between our two people.”

“It still doesn’t explain the descent into war. It was as though they hated each other in the end.”

“There’s a fine line between love and hate sometimes, Tristan,” Trinity met his gaze. “Maybe your father tried to punish mine for rejecting him. Who knows what was said between them.”

“My father never revealed anything. He must have been in great pain.”

“I think they both were, and pain can make you mad. I don’t want to be without you, Tristan,” Trinity said, moving closer.

Tristan took him into his embrace. “You won’t be. I promise. Let’s try and make things right. After this is over, we’ll have peace.”

Trinity kissed his mouth hard, then, stood up. He reached down his hand and pulled Tristan to his feet. “Come on. We have much work to do before tomorrow.”

As it turned out, the war lasted only eight days. It was the Epemo this time that negotiated peace. Faced with the combined armies of the Celest, Herits and Majests, they decided that it was far too much trouble. There was a great celebration after, and much talk of rebuilding.

Two weeks later, Trinity and Tristan signed a treaty in a public ceremony which would ensure peace between the Celest and the Herits for generations to come. The Majests were in attendance, and would promise to be a powerful ally in the future.

Now, with all the work there was to do, Trinity and Tristan found little time to be together. Although they remained in constant contact, it was several months after the end of the war before they finally met for a public dinner celebration.

The staircase was being rebuilt and as Tristan rose above Temple Green up to the Celestial plateau, the ringing of the hammers was like music to his ears. He was haunted by memories as he spotted pieces of the new, even more efficient staircase being put together, and his mind couldn’t help but go back to earlier days.

“Where were you, Tristan?” Trinity asked him sleepily. He had fallen asleep, surrounded by candles.

Tristan had walked into the cave, out of breath. “My father insisted I do some stuff before I left. I got here as quick as I could, almost broke my neck jumping that damn rail.”

“You don’t have the hang of it,” Trinity protested, holding out his hand with a grin.

Tristan took it. “You think you can do everything better than me.”

“I can,” he smirked, pulling him down on top of him. “I can kiss better.”

  “Cannot,” Tristan protested. “Prove it.”

  Trinity kissed hotly.

Tristan laughed. “Well that was pretty good, but how about this?” Tristan gave it his all, which ended up making them both erupt into boyish laughter.

  * * * *

Tristan could still hear that laughter echoing in his ears as he left his space craft, followed by several of the cabinet ministers landing behind him. It made him smile.

Trinity greeted them at the door, not waiting for his servants to show them in. He took Tristan’s hand and squeezed it. They were served drinks and refreshments immediately upon sitting down in the large receiving room, and the room was filled with optimism.

Tristan sensed Trinity’s anxiousness. He was feeling the same. He couldn’t wait to be alone with him, but they had to be careful. They couldn’t be seen to be repeating history, as the rumours were now rampant concerning the reasons their fathers had ended their friendship. It was too soon.

“Perhaps you should tell the Emperor, Mr. President,” one of Tristan’s politicians announced, “about the elections.”

  “Elections?” Trinity glanced at Tristan.

“Yes. We will have a free election next year. I have decided to step down.” He met Trinity’s startled eyes.

“Is that wise, so soon after…”

“All the people in my cabinet are men of peace, your highness,” Tristan announced, lowering his head. “If you will allow me to spend the night, perhaps we could discuss this in private later.”

“Of course,” he said, looking away.

The evening went by so slowly that Tristan wanted to tear out his hair. Finally, the others left, and they were alone. Trinity dismissed the servants. He seemed almost shy, loitering on the fa
r side of the room.

Tristan looked over at him. “You were surprised by my announcement.”

  “Of course.”

He seemed so much better now. He had fought the Epemo courageously in the merciful short war. All the bravado and strength he had once, returned, along with that fierce pride of his. “Are you now so proud that you no longer love me?” Tristan asked him, braving a smile he couldn’t feel. His heart was beating hard in his chest. If Trinity ever stopped loving him, he’d curl up and die.

“Can’t love you?” He lifted an eyebrow. “Why, my dear Tristan, I will always love you, no matter what.”

“Then come closer,” Tristan whispered, with a sigh of relief, crooking his finger.

Trinity smiled. “What if someone sees us?”

“Let them. Why do you think I’m stepping down, dear Emperor?”

Trinity’s face lit up. “Tristan,” he said breathlessly, standing in front of him now. “You’ll come here, live with me?”

“If you’ll have me?” Tristan swallowed, letting his eyes drink in Trinity’s beauty. He still took his breath away.

“Oh yes,’ he said, drawing him close. “I’ll have you. My sweet Tristan.” He kissed his mouth hotly. “I’ve missed you so much, but…” he paused, searching his eyes, “you give up so much for me. I…”

“I’ve never wanted to be a politician,” he laughed. “When was I ever interested in politics?”

“True,” Trinity laughed, hugging him close to him. “So what will you do up here on the mountain?”

  “Besides love you?”

“Yes, of course,” he grinned. “That should certainly be your number one priority.”

“I’d like to help build that staircase,” he said, meeting his gaze.

“Build the…” Trinity began to laugh. “Whatever for, my love?”

“As long as that staircase is there, we’ll never be apart.” Tears stung Tristan’s eyes. He blinked them away, feeling foolish.

“Then by all means,” Trinity told him, “work on the staircase, but, lover, it would take more than a broken staircase to keep us apart now.”

Tristan wrapped him tightly in his arms and whispered against his cheek. “Prove it,” he taunted, and their laughter echoed throughout the grand room.
