Nic slapped her jokingly. “I’m really looking forward to meeting Adie.”
“I’ll get the grill started in the courtyard and prioritise that glass of wine.” She hugged her. “See you in a bit.”
Ten minutes later Nicole appeared dressed in shorts, a t-shirt and sandals, wearing a hat and clutching a bottle of suntan lotion. She sat at the table and lifted the glass of white wine, taking a large drink. “Mmm yes, your rating is definitely improving.”
Kat smiled, she had already prepared a salad, and had steaks ready to go on the grill. She had hoped Adie would be joining them but she had already received a text that she would have to work later than planned, and told Katherine to have dinner without her. She joined Nic at the table and lifted her drink. “Cheers.”
“Cheers, so how are you doing babe?”
“Great actually, I love it here, everything about it. I’m well into the book, I sit here on the terrace during the day, shaded by the sun and just write. I’m already at chapter 18. My freelance work is going strong too, I’m even writing some stories about Greece, I’ve got as much work as I can handle.”
“Great Kat, what about love?”
“You know I haven’t missed Tanya anything like I thought I would. The more I think of us the more I realise how much we weren’t made for each other. I must have been having an early midlife crisis.”
“Mmm.”
Katherine caught her friend’s expression. “What does that mean?”
“You were marrying her, I thought you loved her.”
“I did, but I’ve realised she wasn’t my soulmate. I’m not sure I was ever in love with her, more lust and loneliness to be honest.”
“Thank god!”
“What?”
“I said thank god. You know when you came back from your holiday with Tanya in tow I was surprised. I liked her at first, then I don’t know, I didn’t trust her and I was never sure she was right for you, not long term anyway. That whole bisexuality thing never had me convinced.”
“Why didn’t you say?”
“Kat I tried to remember, has someone wiped your memory? You were in full lust mode at that time. Within six months you were engaged, what the hell was I meant to say? I dislike and distrust your fiancée Kat, please get shot of her?”
Kat laughed. “I see your point, and yes I remember, you did. I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you. How is she anyway?”
Nic watched her before she responded, but she didn’t appear to be hurting any more. “Last I heard she had gone back to New Zealand, her job came to an end, the contract ended. She didn’t have anywhere permanent to stay, she was sofa surfing between friends. I’m not sure there was anything to keep her here.”
Katherine suddenly realised that hearing about Tanya wasn’t hurting her, she felt nothing.
“Anyway, tell me about Adie.”
“Hopefully you will meet her soon. I want your honest opinion Nicole.”
“What do you think?”
“Honestly? She’s beautiful, great with her family and friends and guests. She’s made me feel so welcome, opened up her life and home to me you know, but not asked for anything in return.”
Nic nodded, the opposite of Tanya, who wanted all she could get. The wedding was going to be an extravagant affair, despite Katherine wanting something more intimate.
Nicole looked around her. “You’ve done this.”
“Oh I know, and she is very grateful, but she never asked. I offered otherwise I’m not sure she would have let me stay, and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
“Well that’s good, because I think there was a lot that you had to offer that attracted Tanya. What about Adrienne, does she know about your circumstances in London?”
“No, I haven’t mentioned it, she assumed I rented a flat and I haven’t corrected her. I wasn’t intentionally trying to hide it. I don’t know, there hasn’t been the occasion to mention it.”
“Good. Does she have feelings for you?” Nicole watched Kat, she seemed thoughtful.
“I really don’t know, there’s times I think so. We’ve had a couple of sessions, we hooked up just after I got here, it was a car crash, I wasn’t ready, but she was incredibly understanding.”
“You never told me that.”
“That’s because I’m still mortified. You know I don’t do one-night stands, neither does she for that matter, but let’s just say it was a bit one sided. That’s before I broke down on her and cried like a baby.”
“Ah.”
“Yes, how to make a good first impression not! She’s been completely gracious about it, and still let me move in here, we’re friends. Then last night.....”
“Oh tell me.”
Katherine smiled and looked bashful. “Well it was much more matched, I returned the favour.”
“And?”
“There’s no and, she left for work before I woke today, we didn’t get time to talk.”
“So, did you feel like you were fucking or making love?”
Katherine didn’t hesitate. “For me it was making love. I’ve lusted after her since the beginning, but its become more. Last night if I’m honest I made love to her.” Katherine hesitated, fear settling inside her chest. “What if she doesn’t feel the same though Nic? The first time, well it was nearly the end of my stay, last night, well it’s the end of the six months, maybe that’s why its safe for her to fuck me. What if that’s all it is for her?”
“Let me be the judge of that okay. So when am I going to meet her?”
“I’d hoped tonight and that you would get a lot of opportunity to get to know her over the next few days, but one of the head waitresses at her work had a bereavement and had to return home to Corfu. It’s a busy time and Adrienne will fill the gap, so we will see her when we see her.”
Nicole hugged her friend, she really hoped that this would work out for her.
CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Adrienne was around for short periods whilst Nicole was there, but hadn’t managed to spend a whole evening with them as yet. However from what she had seen Nicole was impressed, Adrienne was hot, even though women didn’t do it for her, she could see that, she had a natural beauty. She could also see that she cared for Katherine, she was funny and interesting. Her English was perfect.
Nicole had also been impressed with Katherine’s grasp of Greek. Kat had taken her around Crete, and when she spoke with the locals in their own language she could see that they were amazed that she took the time to learn how to speak to them.
Adrienne came home on the Sunday at 11 p.m. and Katherine spoke with her. She realised that they had not had time to talk since spending the night together. In the limited time she was around Katherine had tried to speak to Adrienne alone but been unsuccessful. She was beginning to wonder whether she was avoiding being alone with her.
“I’m sorry Adrienne I didn’t mean to nag, its just that you’ve hardly been around. I wanted you and Nicole to get to know each other and you’ve barely been here. She leaves the day after tomorrow.”
“Katherine, I was working, my family needed me, it’s not as if I was away having fun.”
Katherine looked upset. “I know that I’m sorry, I’m being selfish.”
“No look I’m sorry, Nicole was also here to help me, to test the room and I’ve scarcely had a chance to speak to her about it. Tomorrow I will get away at 8, is that okay, can you keep dinner?”
Katherine’s face lit up. “Great I’ll make your favourite.”
“You don’t need to do that, Nicole will be away soon, please make what she would like.”
“Okay, just be here as soon as you can, I’ll do the rest.”
The next day Adrienne arrived home early, about to go onto the terrace she stopped herself. She realised she had nearly walked in on Katherine and Nicole at what looked like an intimate moment. They were holding each other, Nicole was stroking Katherine’s hair. Adrienne knew that she should have walked away, but she couldn’t bring herself to, ins
tead she stood in the shadows and listened to Nicole.
“You need to tell her Katherine. Tell her and then we book your ticket and you start living your life.”
Adrienne watched as Katherine answered. “I knew you would tell me as it is. I just needed to know how feasible this was.”
“I never thought I’d say this, but I think its going to be incredible Kat.” With that Nicole kissed her forehead. “I love you baby.”
“I love you too. I’ll miss you when you go tomorrow.”
“Well hopefully it won’t be for long.”
Adrienne went to the bathroom and splashed cold water on her face and wrists. She couldn’t hold back the tears as she thought about what she had witnessed. Holding Katherine in her arms, touching her, she had never experienced such deep feelings and sensations, she knew that she was in love. Adrienne had hoped it meant something to Katherine too, it had seemed to at the time. The timing had been poor though, they had not had a minute to speak since. How was she going to face her after what she had heard? Still at least it saves me making a fool of myself!
Suddenly there was a knock at the door. “Adrienne great you’re early, I know you will be tired but come down and relax, everything is nearly ready, I’ll look after you.”
“I’ll be there in a second.” Adrienne dried her eyes and headed downstairs to the terrace.
CHAPTER SIXTEEN
The next day Katherine drove Nicole to the airport. She knew Adrienne was off for two days after her shift tonight. She already had the ingredients for her favourite meal, and she picked up some beer that she knew she liked. I hope I get the chance to talk to her tonight. Nic is right, I can’t wait any longer.
Adrienne arrived home late claiming to have a headache and went to bed early. I just can’t face her yet, even though I know I’m just holding off the inevitable. She slept for a while, waking to a light knock at her bedroom door.
Katherine looked worried. “Hi, just checking you are okay. Can I get you something light to eat, I made your favourite but that will keep.”
“No its okay I’m fine, I had a big lunch at work. Did Nicole get away okay?”
“Yes, she’s just texted me that she’s home safe.”
“I bet you miss her.” Just tell me Katherine?
“Yes, I already do, we used to spend a lot of time together you know.... it’s hard to be apart sometimes. Anyway get some sleep, you must be tired and tomorrow I’ll take care of you okay?”
Adrienne’s crying started the moment Katherine closed the door. She loved Katherine and she loved their life together, she couldn’t imagine her not being there. The last six months had fantastic, she could scarcely recall her life before Katherine came into it, and she didn’t want to. She had shown her how her dream could eventually come true, but it will be meaningless without her.
The following morning Katherine knocked on her bedroom door, it wasn’t like Adrienne to spend her day off in bed, she was worried that she might be ill and needed to check she was okay. She walked into the room as quietly as she could, the shutters were closed but hadn’t managed to keep out all the sun. Adrienne was lying naked on the bed, most of her covered by a single sheet. She looked like a women in a Renaissance painting. Her hair was tousled as though she had run her hands through it endlessly. It reminded Katherine of how she had looked after she had made love to her. Her arousal reared into life.
Katherine sat on the edge of the bed and gently touched her shoulder. “Hey, are you okay?”
Adrienne swallowed. “Yes I’m fine.”
Katherine looked at her, her eyes were red and blotchy as though she had been crying, and for some time.
Adrienne sat up, the sheet slipping away from her and revealing her breasts.
Katherine looked down, the tension between them was palpable. “God you’re beautiful.”
Adrienne immediately reached to cover herself up.
“Adrienne please, you’ve been crying.” Katherine reached forward, her thumb gently touching the swollen flesh under her eye. She looked down at Adrienne’s lips and then to her breasts, placing her hand over Adie’s on the sheet and pushing it back down.”
Adrienne looked at her. “Kat please.”
“Ad... please don’t cover yourself.” She reached forward her lips touching Adrienne’s.
Adrienne groaned and pulled away. “No Kat I can’t. You fuck me four days ago, then your girlfriend arrives and she’s hardly left but you’re back at me.”
Realisation dawned. “My girlfriend.....oh god Adie, you think Nic and I... that there’s something between us.”
“Isn’t there? I’m sorry I overheard you Kat, you and Nic talking, something about going home and starting your life.”
Kat watched as the tears flowed. “Ad...”
“No Katherine I’ve loved having you here, but if you need to go then please just tell me.”
“Nicole and I, I love her Adie but we’re friends nothing else. She’s not gay, she wants to marry her boyfriend. I love her, I always have but not like that, never like that.... How could I be when I’m in love with you?”
Adrienne looked up. “What did you say?”
Katherine reached out and touched her cheek. “I said I’m in love with you Adie, you. I think I have been since the first day I saw you. I want to stay.... that’s if you’ll have me?”
“You talked about going home.”
“Yes but only to settle things in London, I left for a holiday remember, for three weeks, not to stay. Actually, I hoped that you would be able to come with me. I want to show you my life there.”
Adrienne sighed. “I thought you were leaving me.”
“Not unless you want me to?”
“That’s the last thing I want. I’m in love with you too Katherine.”
“Good.” Katherine’s eyes met Adrienne’s as she lowered the sheet down from her body. “Then let me show you how much I want to stay Adie... how much I adore you.”
Adrienne groaned as Katherine pushed her down onto the bed and lay beside her, cupping her face with her hand as she moved in, her lips meeting Adie’s.
“Just one complaint Kat, you are way over dressed.”
Katherine smiled as they quickly divested her of her t-shirt, shorts and underwear. Adrienne pulled her down on top of her, spreading her legs wide open as Katherine settled herself between them. They kissed passionately as they began moving together, their cores meeting. Their movements quickly becoming frenzied as their passion rose.
Adrienne couldn’t believe the relief she felt. Katherine tried to move down her body but she held here where she was, wrapping her legs around her back, wanting her whole body in contact with hers. Pulling her closer towards her as she used her mouth and tongue to explore Katherine’s face and show her how much she wanted her. “God Katherine I’m close.”
Katherine spoke huskily into her ear. “Me too, come for me Adie.”
Adrienne gasped as Kat’s words pushed her over the edge, all her grip on reality leaving her as she focussed on the electricity firing through every cell on her body. Vaguely hearing Katherine’s moans as her intense orgasm hit. They held each other closely looking deep into each other’s eyes as their breathing slowed.
“Wow, Katherine, you are good.”
“I aim to please darling.”
They spoke for some time, sharing with each other how their feelings had developed, laughing when they realised that each other had been experiencing the same feelings all along yet worrying that they were alone.
Adrienne suddenly raised herself up on her side. “You know Katherine, I’m not prepared to hide you, if we are going to be together here then I want to be open about us. Is that okay?”
Katherine smiled. “Of course, I don’t want to hide baby, but I’ll go at your pace.”
“I mean to my family too, I’m going to come out to them, I want you to meet them.”
“Okay, however you want to do this, I’m in.”
They spent the
remainder of the day in bed, rising only to eat and refuel on Katherine’s pre-prepared macaroni before returning to bed. The next day followed a similar path, after waking and making love they spent some time on the beach. Adrienne made love to her in the sea against the rocks, and after showering together, they returned to her room until they fell asleep with exhaustion from the sea air and the emotion of the day.
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
Katherine woke the following day to Adrienne dressing for work. “Do you really need to go baby, I’m missing you already?”
Adrienne laughed, Kat looked like a petulant child. “Yes, unfortunately I do. I’ll try not to be late though, and I’ll be thinking of you...... all of you.” Adrienne kissed her. “Go back to sleep baby.”
Katherine did so, she rose two hours later and woke herself with a long swim in the sea. After breakfast she sat outside with her computer, time forgotten as she lost herself in her book. Before she knew it Adie was home, wrapping her arms around her from behind.
“How’s the book coming along?”
Katherine smiled. “Good, the next couple of weeks should do it. Then I just need to get the confidence to publish it.” She could see that Adrienne looked excited. “What?”
“Well, I spoke with my aunt and I’ve arranged time off next week to go to Athens, and in six weeks at the end of the season I can have three weeks off to go to London. That’s if it suits you?”
Katherine got up and turned into Adie’s arms. “Sounds perfect, I’ll work on the flights tomorrow.”
“Katherine I want you to come to Athens.... after I’ve told them.”
“Great, leave me the dates and I’ll get these flights sorted too.”
“You’re not upset that I need to see them alone first?”
Katherine drew her into a hug. “Of course not, I said I’d be there however, whenever, wherever you needed me and I meant it.”
Adrienne kissed her gently on the lips. “Have I told you yet today how much I love you?”
“You may have mentioned it this morning, but I’ll never tire of hearing it baby.”
