  “Hey! What was that for?” Drake asked, his hand reaching for the red spot on his cheek where Kaiya’s own hand had just made impact.

  “That’s for asking me one too many times if I’m serious about you,” Kaiya said. “I know this life will involve danger. But it will also involve adventure. And it will involve spending every day with you. I couldn’t ask for anything more. You’re a good man, Drake. Everything I could have ever hoped for, and then some. I’m never letting you go, okay? We’re in this together.”

  Kaiya’s heart warmed as Drake smiled down at her, then pulled her into his arms and kissed her forehead—and then her nose, and then her lips.

  “Together,” he repeated. “I’m so glad I ran into you in the coffee shop that morning.”

  “I’m glad, too,” Kaiya said. “Every relationship has its challenges, but we were made for each other. I feel it in my bones. Whatever wars come, whatever stone we find or don’t find, we’ve found each other, and that’s all that matters.”

  “You’re right,” Drake said with a grin. “And now, how about a bottle of wine? We can argue over our favorite mystery novels again until we’re both so fired up that the only thing to do is take out our passions in bed.”

  Kaiya grinned. “Nerd,” she said.

  Drake shrugged. “Takes one to know one.”

  Kaiya laughed, and followed Drake into the kitchen where he found a bottle of wine to open for them. She let her eyes graze over his strong body as he concentrated on the task of pouring two glasses of wine.

  This was a strange new world she had entered, that was true. But she wouldn’t want it any other way now that she was here. For the first time in her life, every day felt like an adventure. And every day, she woke up knowing she had found the smartest, kindest, most handsome man around. His only flaw seemed to be worrying about her too much, and Kaiya figured she could deal with that.

  There was nothing quite like life with a dragon.
