  New Friends...

During our entire time on the red carpet his hand never leaves my back, a gesture that is both erotic and comforting. He pauses to talk to a few of the reporters and we spend no more than ten minutes on the carpet, until all the attention drifts from us to the newest arrivals. “Mr. Michaels…Mrs. Michaels…” I feel my heart rate increase and excitement flutters through my veins like a wild butterfly. Is it possible?

Once we cross the threshold, I can’t help but blink more than a few times to dispel the crazy flashes from my eyes.

“Remember what I said about being a fan girl?”

“Yes.” His tone is soft but still a growl.

“I lied. At least if those that arrived after us are who I think they are.”

He smiles at me. “Are you referring to Tristan?”

  I slump. “How did you…?”

Before I can finish, Derek gestures around the room. It is wide, the ballroom is massive and there are no less than eighty tables spread around the room with chairs and fancy place settings, but what captures my attention is what’s on the walls. Massive posters with the charities slogan, “We Are One” emblazoned over various shots of both Tristan and his wife Cameron.

“Tristan and Cami are founders of ‘We Are One’ an equal rights charity organization.” My heart melts at the fact that Derek is using their first names and that he is a major benefactor of this charity. “They will be dining with us, so I will do my best to introduce you so you can take a deep breath. Believe me when I tell you, they are both amazing people, and very kind, and they will do anything they can to make you feel welcome.”

“Have you told them about me?”

He doesn’t answer, but there is a playful smirk on his lips and my heart is turning into butter; he talks about me.

  “Remember to breathe,” he whispers.

“Derek.” I follow his line of sight and coming straight toward us are none other than Tristan Michaels and his wife Cameron.

“Tristan,” he greets him and they shake hands. It feels like I’ve walked into a dream. “How are you, Cami?” I watch as Derek leans down, kissing Cami on the cheek.

“I’m fabulous, you?” Cami is gorgeous, though I’ve seen her pictures; they’ve never done her justice. Or Tristan for that matter.

“Wonderful. Tristan, Cami, I’d like you to meet Dacotah.” What, no.

“Hi.” I extend my hand, and Tristan takes it. “It’s an honor to meet you.”

“Same to you.” He cocks his head, similarly to what Derek does when he’s trying to read me. “Dacotah, this is my wife Cami.” He places his hand on the small of Cami’s back, similarly to the way Derek is holding me. I extend my hand and we shake.

“It’s a pleasure to meet you.” She gives an all-knowing wink to Derek. “We’ve heard a lot about you.” I elbow Derek and both Tristan and Cami laugh. My fan girl moment is effectively broken.

“Hey now,” Derek teases but I can see the faint flush of red in his cheeks at knowing he’s caught.

“Well, I hope it was all good things.” I smile and Cami returns my smile.

  “Of course.”

“Tristan.” A male voice from somewhere behind them calls.

“Please excuse us. We’ll see you at dinner.” He nods and gently takes Cami off toward the gentleman who’d called for Tristan.

“That could have gone better,” I mutter.

“You did great. The one thing that drives Tristan nuts is girls who swoon and make mention of his movies. Believe it or not, he’s a very shy person.”

“Whoa, really?” I look at Derek and he smiles.

“Yes, really. A lot of actors are.”

“When you said there would be celebrities here tonight, I didn’t expect him.”

“I know. But he is here, he’s a nice guy and we’ve become friends in dealing with We Are One. So I don’t think of him as a celebrity, though I never pegged you for a celebrity crush.” He grins at me and I nudge his shoulder with mine. He laughs. “Come on, the bar is over here.”

“Thank God,” I say exasperated and he chuckles.

Vivienne Callahan has known only hardship. As if growing up with an alcoholic, drug addicted mother wasn't traumatic enough, she's escaped from her physically and verbally abusive boyfriend only to struggle every day to make ends meet as a waitress in a Minneapolis diner.

Along comes Mikah Blake, a handsome stranger who quickly takes an unexpected and persistent interest in her. On the surface, "Mr. Suit" seems to be Vivienne's opposite: rich, well-fed, successful. As Vivienne will learn, Mikah is more than he seems, and for reasons unknown, he's determined to be her knight in shining armor. But after having finally found her own two feet after years of abuse, it's difficult for her to accept Mikah's help.

Will her body's unexpected response to Mikah's touch be reason enough to overcome her pride and traumatic past and learn to love and trust? Or will her past, refusing to be left behind, come back to claim her?
