“Sooner or later, but not today. So I’ll go see whether I can make the home office livable.”
“Wait. Ivy and Eli are still coming, right?”
“Yeah, baby. And Brittainy, Greg and Simone, May and Quincy with the girls.” He paused after reciting all the names. “You sure you’re cool with that? All those people, coming over so soon?”
Ryann shrugged, then leaned in to smell her baby’s head. Next to the bed, in the bassinet that they kept for times like this, when they wanted them both close by, Ava slept.
“Hmm?”
“I said, are you cool with that?”
She was cool with that. These days, she was cool with just about anything, feeling nothing but a lazy, hazy, sleep-deprived sense of perfect calm.
‘I don’t know what that is,’ she told Ivy. ‘Hormones?’
‘No,’ her friend said. ‘Happiness.’
