A Stranger's Wife

“And maybe a firstborn of our own to play with him?”

Meg said softly, “I hope so, and by the time it takes us to make one, the bistro will be established.”

“So the answer is yes? Say it, Meg. Say you’ll marry me.”

“Yes, oh yes, yes! I will marry you, Jake.”

They rocked back and forth with the music, bodies close, hearts beating in unison, moving to ancient erotic rhythms that no longer belonged to the tango, but to one man and one woman, pledging with bodies and minds their endless love.

After a moment, as if with a will of their own, Meg’s fingers reached for the buttons on his shirt. She slipped her hands inside the soft silk and felt the hard planes of his chest, felt his heartbeat beneath her fingertips.

Jake’s hands found the zipper on the back of her dress and she shrugged it from her shoulders, so that it slid to the floor. She gasped with pleasure as their bare flesh finally fused, then he bent to kiss the hollow at the base of her throat again, and slowly traced a delicious path with his lips to her breasts.

They were both breathing rapidly as his tender touch explored her body, caressing each soft contour, awakening nerve endings, bringing her to such an exquisite peak of desire that when he swept her up into his arms and carried her out into the scented night she could only whisper his name, over and over again.

Then he was setting her down on the cool cushions of a patio couch, swiftly discarding the rest of their clothes, and bending to whisper against her lips, “I’ll love you forever, Meg. This is our true beginning.”

As they made love under the stars, Meg knew that the past was behind them now, and the future was theirs alone.
