“Stop struggling and this will go a lot easier. Do you want to die? These men are here to kill. You hear those gunshots. If you don’t want to get hit by one, we need to go. Now.”

“Fuck you, you fucking cock sucker! Let me go! Asshole!”

I surge forward at the sound of Sofia’s voice. Lo presses a hand to my chest and stops me. I turn to snarl, but he motions for me to pay attention. Lo motions for me to go left while he goes right.

As we inch closer, I can see better that Sofia is fighting the man with everything she can. Anger rising in me, but before I can do anything, Sofia goes completely slack.

My heart beats erratically in my chest. I feel like my world has ended. I don’t know why she stopped fighting, but I know that it can’t be anything good. I surge forward.

  “SOFIA!”

All of a sudden, she springs to life. She swings her arm forward and the man holding her screams out as he falls to the ground. She backs away and I rush forward to grab her. She turns and tries to slash at me which some metal in her hand. It rips my shirt, but I hold her arm against me.

“Tesoro, it’s me. Calm down. It’s me. Bash. Calm down baby.”

  She looks up and squints.

  “Bash?”

  “It’s me. I’m here.”

I glance up and see Lo with his gun to the man’s head.

“Thank God. Bash, it’s Ryan. That’s Ryan.” She points over her shoulder and I see red.

“Lo. Secure him and take him to the warehouse.” Lo nods and begins to

I help Sofia to her feet and turn to take her out. She pulls away.

“We need to get Mia and Izzy.” She gasps and surges forward. “Izzy. She’s hurt.”

“Shhhsh. Tesoro. We have Isabella. She is already on her way back to my place. I need to get you to safety then I will go back in and find Mia.”

“No! I will help find Mia. That man took her to take care of his son.”

  “What man?”

“I don’t know. He was big, fat and Italian. He killed Luca.” There is sadness in her eyes.

  “Luca betrayed the family.”

“We need to find Mia. Now.”

She surges towards the back area where there is gunfire.

  “Mia!” She shouts.

I race after her and pull her against my chest before she can push through the door.

“Damn it, Tesoro. You are going to get killed.”

  “But Mia.”

I pull off my jacket and shirt then take my vest and place it over her head. I strap her in before replacing my shirt and jacket.

Then I hand her a gun out of my waistband.

“Please don’t hurt yourself. I would never forgive myself, Tesoro.” I brush the hair out of her face then lean in and press my lips to hers.

Then I push through the door.

I go out first and hold her behind me with one hand. My eyes take in the scene. Most of my men are outside the loading dock shooting in. I curse. They are shooting at us. I look around and see a car outside and a man surrounded by other men running towards it. It looks like Fillipo, but I can’t be sure. I continue to scan and see Mia kneeling over another man.

  “Stay close, Sof.”

I reach back and grab her hand.

“Stay low.” I demand before I start running.

Once we reach Mia, Sofia immediately pulls her into a hug.

  “Mia. Are you okay?”

I look down at the man and see Danny Fillipo’s son laying before me. There is a pool of blood beneath him with his head resting on the legs of another man who has been shot dead.

“Mia. What are you doing?” I ask her.

She looks up at me with a cold look in her eye.

“I couldn’t save him. I tried.” The lack of emotion in her voice sends a chill down my spine.

“We have to go. Are you injured? Can you walk?”

A man comes running towards us and raises his gun. I shoot him in the head before he can make it any closer.

“I’m fine.” Mia stands up and I pull her back down.

“Mia. Stay down. We need to go back through that door.”

I point back to the door we just came though.

  “Let’s go Mia.”

Sofia takes her hand and pulls her forward, staying low like I told her too. I pull up the rear, walking backwards to make sure we are safe. Once through the door, I slam it shut behind me and take the front.

“Sof, watch our rear. Hold the gun out. Mia, grab the back of my shirt.”

I walk forward and watch my surroundings. I knew that my men were mostly in here, but you never know if someone found a way around them. Until we are back home, I won’t be able to relax. I walk back through the building and am almost to the front door when Sofia screams.

  “Watch out Bash!”

She jumps forward and the next thing I know I hear a gunshot go off.

  Chapter Sixteen

  Sofia

  I’m dying.

I struggle to suck in a breath. My chest feels like it has been hit by a 10 ton truck. I guess this is what it’s like to get shot. Mia is standing over me screaming something.

I look up, but I don’t see Bash.

“Bash.” I breath out in between my gargled breaths.

“He’s ok. Where are you hurt? I can’t find any blood.”

“Can’t breathe.” My hands go to feel my chest, expecting blood.

“It’s just a bruise. She has a vest on. Can you shoot?” I hear Bash’s voice, but I can’t see him.

  “Yes.” I watch Mia nod.

He leans over me and kisses my head.

“Hang in there, Tesoro. You will be ok.”

Next thing I know he had me up in his arms and I scream out in pain.

“Stop.” I try to say, but it comes out breathless.

“Tesoro, calm down. We need to get out of here.”

He takes off at a run and every step feels like a punch to my chest. I bite my lip to avoid screaming out, but I can’t help the whimper coming from me. Just as we hit the woods he slows down. Sirens in the distance freezes him. He takes out his phone and dials a number.

“Get them out of there. Now.”

He hands up and sets the phone on my lap and takes off at a run again. We make it to a clearing where there are several vehicles. I look around, but I don’t see Lo or Ryan and I also don’t see Izzy. He runs to the closest one just as another man runs out of the woods. Mia raises her hand.

“No! He’s one of ours. Michael. I need you to drive.”

The man nods and moves to the driver side while Bash climbs in the back with me on his lap. Mia takes the passenger seat.

“To the estate. Quickly. I heard Sirens so take the dirt road as long as you can and then drive normal.”

The vehicle starts to move, but I’m not paying attention. Bash now has his eyes on me.

  “Tesoro. How are you feeling?”

“Like” I breath in. “I.” Another breath. “Got.” A third breath. “Shot.”

“That feeling eases. You had the wind knocked out of you. Mia or Dr. Fields can look at you when we get back to the house.”

I nod and lay my head on his shoulder as he holds me. He uses one hand to hold me and the other one to caress my hair. I just close my eyes and concentrate on my breathing. It is a quiet ride back to the estate, but when we got there, it looked like all hell had broken loose. Men are scattered throughout the property. They all stand on guard.

Bash slides me out of his lap and onto the seat as he gets out. He then reaches forward to carry me.

“I think I’m okay now. It still hurts, but I can breathe again.”

He nods and just helps me out of the SUV. He wraps his arm around mine and walks me into the house. If I thought outside was bad, inside is even worse. Lining the foyer are injured men. Bash leads me into the conference room and Mia rushes around us.

  “Where can I help?”

Dr. Fields looks up and points to a man. Mia go
es to work.

Bash sits me down in a chair and takes the vest off of me.

“Let me look at it.” He pulls up the t-shirt and I slap him.

  “I’m not wearing a bra.”

“Okay.” He nods, but looks concerned.

Gio walks in then and comes over to Bash. He looks at me and gives me a small smile.

“I heard you were back. Only a couple got pinched. We have the lawyer at the police station waiting on them. Lo is waiting at the warehouse for you. He called in the Fox.”

“Isabella?” Bash asks and I sit up straighter then wince in pain.

“She’s upstairs. She hit her head hard. She is still out, but Dr. Fields is monitoring her. I actually need to get back up to her.”

“I can go.” I jump up and almost fall due to the sharp pain.

“No. Stay here and get checked out. I won’t let anything happen to her. I promise.”

Gio reaches out and grabs my shoulder. I see the barely contained emotions in his eyes. He really cares about Izzy.

“Once I get checked out, I am posting up at her bedside.”

He nods then turns and leave.

“Where is Lo?” Mia looks up at Bash and asks.

“On an errand. He’s ok Mia.” She nods numbly and goes back to working on the man in front of her.

“Let’s go to our room and I will check you out. Okay?”

Bash grabs my hand and a first aid kit before he leads me upstairs. As we pass Matt’s room I stop him.

“Wait. I need to tell Matt I’m back. He is probably worried sick.”

“Matteo is down stairs helping the men. He knows you are back. Trust me. Everyone knows you are back now.”

He continues to pull me down the hall. Once in his room, he closes the door and leads me to the bed. He sits me down then works on stripping me. The gentle way he is caressing me as he takes off my clothes causes me to shiver. I reach up and pull his head down for a kiss. He gently kisses me back before pulling away.

“Let me tend to your wounds, Tesoro. There is plenty of time for that.”

He starts at the wound on my chest. He pokes and prods which makes me wince.

“Just bruised. Nothing is cracked. It will take a while to heal, but you will be okay. I am going to check you from head to toe.”

“No need. My head hurts a little from falling after the explosion and dickweed pulling my hair. I have a cut on my hand from my homemade shank. I think it also cut my stomach from when I kept it there. Either that, or it is from the man I stabbed. I can’t be sure.”

I pause then break out in a sob as I feel the adrenaline in my body finally leaving.

“Shhs. Tesoro. I have you. Let’s take a shower. We need to clean these.”

  I nod though my tears.

He takes me hand and pulls me into the bathroom. He turns on the shower and closes the door. He undresses before testing the water and getting in the shower. Then he holds his hand out to me.

“Come on. Let me take care of you.”

I set into the shower and he pulls me into his arms. He just holds me as I feel the tears to continue to fall down my face. He cradles my head to his chest while his other hand rubs up and down my back. I cry into his shoulder and let all the pent-up emotions for the day out.

What seems like hours, but most likely only minutes later, I calm down and hiccup.

“I have you Tesoro. I won’t let anyone hurt you again. I’m here for you.”

Once my crying stops, I hear Bash repeating the same sentences over and over. My heart warms at his words, but a bucket of ice is poured on me right after. I’m not his. This is temporary. He doesn’t do forever, he said so himself. I am kidding myself if I think this is anything more.

Nevertheless, I accept the comfort. I don’t have the energy to deal with this.

I pull back and give him a kiss. He pulls back from me and wipes my tears.

  “Let’s get you cleaned up.”

He grabs a loofa and puts some of the girly soap he bought me on it. He rubs it together and suds it up. He methodically cleans every part of my body paying special attentions to all my cuts and bruises. After rinsing my body, he washes my hair. I wince when he hits certain spots and he takes note. He is gentler while he washes the soap out then conditions.

Once I am clean, he steps under the water and I lean against the wall watching him clean himself. He is much quicker with himself. Within minutes, he turns off the water. He steps out and grabs a towel, wrapping it around my body. He takes a second towel and leans down drying each leg. Every bruise and cut he washed, now received a feather light kiss. Every kiss? I felt that right in my heart. He is being so sweet and attentive that it makes me want to cry again.

Once he is done drying me, he picks me up and sets me on the counter. He goes into the other room then returns with the first aid kit and clothes. He sets the clothes down and goes to putting ointment on every cut then puts band aids on all except my hand.

For my hand, he places a gauze over the cut then wraps it with medical tape.

“This one needs stitches. I will need to take you back downstairs for it. That thing was rusty so you’ll need a shot too.”

I don’t say anything and he frowns.

  “Are you okay, Tesoro?”

“Yes. I am just emotionally drained. I can’t feel anything.”

He nods and begins to try and dress me, but I push his hand away.

“Make me feel, Bash. I need to feel something.”

His frown deepens. “What can I do, Tesoro?”

I pull him towards me and kiss him hard. It still hurts to breath a bit, but the pain only reminds me that I am alive. That I made it through.

“We shouldn’t.” He says as he pulls away.

“Don’t deny me this, Bash. Please. I need this right now.”

“I don’t want to take advantage of you. You are vulnerable right now.”

“You aren’t taking advantage of me. We have been having sex for weeks. Please, Bash. Make me feel. I am begging you.”

He stares at me in my eye for a couple of moments before stepping in between my thighs and wrapping my legs around him. He picks me up and walks to the bed. He lays me down gently then kisses me.

The kisses he gives me now are different than anything we have shared before. This time he is gentle. Each kiss a caress. Usually our kisses turn me on and drive me crazy. These still turn me on, but they also make my heart skip a beat. This is more than just sex right now. He is trying to communicate with me physically.

He grinds against me and I gasp at the feeling. He is bare as am I and the feeling of him pressing against my clit is on another level. I don’t know if it is the emotions from the day or something else, but this feels bigger.

Bash begins to kiss down my neck and I moan.

  “Please.”

I am begging for a connection. For anything that will remind me that I am alive. I faced death once and made it. I recovered as well as I could. This time, I not only almost died, but both of my best friend and the man I love did as well.

  The man I love.

  I gasp at the thought.

“What do you need me to do, Tesoro? I will give you anything. You just have to ask.”

He looks up as he lightly kisses the bruise on my chest.

“I need you, Bash.” He smiles. “Inside me now.” His smile dims, but he kisses my bruise again before standing up and grabbing a condom.

“Are you sure about this? You’re hurt. I don’t want to make it worse.”

“You make me feel Bash. Tonight, I almost died. Hell, you almost died. This will help me move past that. Please.”

He nods then sheaths himself. He settles back between my legs and kisses me again. He continues to lazily kiss me as he pushes at my entrance. I angle my body up and he slides in easily. He moves from my lips and kisses my neck as he gently rocks my hips. After a couple of moments, I pull on his hair to bring him back and look into his eyes.

I need more.”

His eyes flare as he continues to stare at me, but picks up his pace. He grabs my left leg and props it under my knee, changing the position so he is hitting me deeper. Within seconds, he hits that spot. The one that makes me cry out. My eyes roll back as I scream out. His other hand comes up to cup my face.

“You are so gorgeous, Tesoro. I wouldn’t have been able to live myself if anything had happened to you.”

I open my eyes and look into his as I feel it building. Just as I am about to fall over the edge, he kisses me hard and jerks inside me. At the feel of his first jerk, I fall right over, biting his lip as I come.

Whatever we just did, it was more than fucking. Some might even call it love.

  Bastiano

I don’t know what the hell happened up in my room, but I am now surer than ever that I am in love with Sofia. I tried to deny it, but the more I got to know her, the further I fell.

Now I just need to figure out what to do about it.

My reasons for wanting to stay single haven’t changed. This life is still no life for a woman and kids. I watched what it did to my mother. I don’t want that for the woman I love.

The problem is I don’t want to let her go either. The thought of another man on her make me want to throttle something.

I don’t know what to do.

“Hey. Lo wants to know what you want him to do. Did you want him to wait?”

  Gio materializes next to me.

“Yes. I just want to make sure Sofia is taken care of then I will head out. You want to come?”

“This the fuck that did that to Isabella? Hurt Mia and Sofia?”

  “Yep.”

“Fuck yes. I’ll be right back.”

Sofia is getting her hand stitched by Dr. Fields. They finally got all of the men treated and now it is just Mia, Dr. Fields, and Sofia left in the room as all the others have either gone home or were given a room upstairs.

Sofia catches me watching her and smiles. She trails her left hand up to her collarbone and lets it caress there as she bites her lip.

  Minx.

I adjust myself in my pants as Gio comes back.

  “I’m ready when you are.”

I nod and get up to go to Sofia. I lean in and kiss her.
