Torn to Pieces Page 15

by Harper Ashley

He flips me over and grasps my hips as he rocks into me over and over. I can feel my release building with each thrust, and I know he is close too when his grip on me tightens as he slams home.

We explode around each other, and he collapses into me. His hands trail the curves of my body as we breathe heavily following our climax.

I turn over and wrap my arms around him, nuzzling into the crook of his neck. I place a single kiss there, and feel my entire body relax.

This is what pure bliss feels like. Coming home to the man I love and getting to experience this.

  Three years later…

"What do you mean? He's perfect!" I say to Alec.

I point to the scruffy looking dog in the last kennel. He has one tooth peeking out from his mouth, and lopsided ears that look seriously out of place.

"It looks deranged." He says flatly, eyebrows raised.

"That's Frank. He's been with us the longest. He's a sweet fellow, but for some reason no one has chosen him yet." The human shelter employee, Shannon, informs us.

"I can see why." Alec mutters under his breath.

I glare at him, and he throws up his hands in defeat. I always win.

"He's the one." I say, and my boyfriend rolls his eyes.

"Fantastic! Frank, do you want to go home with these nice people?" Shannon asks the dog. He replies with a bark.

"See, he loves us already." I beam, and Alec shakes his head in exasperation.

  "Whatever you say, babe."

When we arrive back at home, I show our new pup around. "And this is your bed," I point to a fluffy dog bed right next to ours.

"But you can sleep with me if you like." I whisper to him.

"I heard that." Alec says, wrapping his arms around my waist.

  I smile up at him.

I pull out my phone and click to FaceTime my mother. She answers almost immediately.

"Josephine! How are you?" She exclaims. "Sean! It's them!"

"We have exciting news!" I say, sporting the world's biggest grin on my face.

"Oh really, what's that?" Sean asks as he settles onto the sofa beside my mother.

"We've decided to add a new member to the family!"

My mother squeals, "Oh! That's fantastic, I'd hoped you'd wait until after graduation. Or, maybe a marriage. -"

"Jesus Christ," Alec yells. "A dog. We adopted a dog!"

He holds up our new furry friend, and I can't help but laugh at the miscommunication.

"Thank God." Sean exhales, and I laugh again.

"His name is Frank, isn't he adorable?" I ask.

"He's something, that's for sure." Sean remarks, and Alex nudges me as if to say I told you so.

I don't care if he looks a little different, he's perfect.

We catch each other up on everything for a few more minutes, and the call ends with a promise to come home soon for a visit.

When we hang up, I plant a kiss on Alec's lips. Frank growls, and he narrows his eyes. "Look here, buddy. She's mine."

I take in the moment, the three of us piled onto our bed and am once again reminded at how wonderful this life is.

Our road to happiness was never easy, but we made it. I graduate in less than a year, and Alec has decided to get his contractor’s license. He is already working with a company, but once he completes the licensing, he will start his own thanks to a sizable investment from his father.

Alec still drives me crazy on most days, but there has not been a single moment that I have regretted what we have- or this life that we have built together.

Our story was never meant to be a fairy tale. It was raw and hard, unconventional, and challenging, but beautiful at the same time. It is our story, and that is all that matters.
