“Phoenix, you are. You just have to get use to me being a woman, and guys looking at me. It's part of life.” He looks down at her and she smiles. “Now, was there a reason you called me in here, besides yelling at me?” He grins at her, and she knows that grin. “I don't think so. Not when anyone can walk in.”

He looks at the door. “Oh darling, I have a strong lock on that door. No one will be getting in.” He grabs her by the waist and she giggles. “Plus, my office is sound proof.” He lower his head to her neck.

She moans, and he moves up to her ear lobe. Jennifer is just about to give in to him when the phone rings. He tears away his lips from her. “I am going to kill who ever is on that phone.”

Jennifer can't help but to laugh, and he starts to walk away from her. “Maybe you should hire someone to answer your phones.”

He looks at her when he gets to the phone and smiles. “Nice to see you in such a good mood. I wonder why?” He winks and picks up the phone.

“Phoenix.” He listens for a minute and his face gets red. “No do not do anything until I get there.” He hangs up and swears. “I have to take care of something in IT. I won't be back for the whole day, so just take messages for me.” He walks over to her, and takes her into his arms. “Can you do me a favor?” She arches her eyebrow at his question. “Don't let anyone flirt with you.”

She laughs, he is the most jealous man she has ever met. “I will do my best.”

He moves an arm around her shoulders, and walks towards the door. “Jennifer I may no own you, but you are mine. I don’t want anyone touching what is mine.” Phoenix opens the door and he walks them out. The whole office glances their way, and she looks up at him. He smiles down at her, and then frames her face with his large hands. She can feel her heart pounding extremely fast, as he lower his head to kiss her. She knows why he is doing this and a part of her is mad, but the other part wants to claim him too. “Mine.” He whispers against her lips, and then his lips are on hers. She allows his tongue into her mouth, and has to force herself not to moan with his taste.

He moves his lips away, and she wishes they didn't have a crowd watching them. His eyes are tell her that she has the same effect on her as he has on her. He winks at her and walks away from her, leaving her standing there with every eye on her.

Phoenix walks into his IT department and walks towards the conference room Sam told him he would me in. He walks in and his eyes meets Melissa's. She grins, and bats her eyes. Sam is getting the large flat screen set up.

“Please tell me you found the commercial.” He says as he is looking at the back of Sam's head.

“Yes, I am hooking it up now.” He turns around and smiles at Melissa, then looks at Phoenix. “I also edit it, so it is ready to go.”

Phoenix walks over to the large cherry wood conference table. He sits down, and Melissa sits next to him. Sam turns on the TV and presses play.

After they watch the commercial Melissa, and Sam look at him. Waiting to see if he likes it, he looks down at his hands. Then he looks and smiles. “I fucking love it. You both did an amazing job.”

“I aim to please you.” Melissa purrs, and Phoenix glances at Sam. He looks like his heart was ripped out by Melissa. She looks at him and nods. “Thank you so much Sammy.”

Sam nods slowly, and turns to walk out of the conference room leaving him and Melissa alone.

“I want to buy you a drink, it is the lease I can do.” She looks up at Phoenix, and he can see her eyes begging him to say yes.

He smiles at her. “I am seeing someone.” Phoenix stands up, and she stands in front of him. He can't even think of anyone else, besides Jennifer. He can almost feel her warm sexy body next to his. He can see her beautiful smile and how it lights up her face.

Melissa places her hands on his chest, and this is the first time he doesn't feel the burn of his incubus power wanting to take over. “She will never know.” Phoenix looks down, and Melissa smiles up at him.

He gently pushes her away. “I wouldn’t do that to her.”

Melissa starts to laugh. “Oh Phoenix, I was joking. That's not the kind of woman I am. But is still want to take you out. I know you have more money that sin, but I want to treat you.” She smiles at him, “please?”

He knows that tonight is out of the question, he wants to finish what happened at Jennifer's. “In two days, we'll go out for drinks.” He walks towards the door, he stops before walking out. There is no way in hell he is going to let her pay. “And I will be buying.”

Phoenix walks on to his floor, and heads towards his office. He is hoping to catch Jennifer before she heads to lunch. He can't believe how much he misses her. He has only missed one person, that was his grandmother.

  Chapter Ten

After getting most of her work done, she decides that it's lunchtime. She grabs her purse and heads towards Subway. She is so hungry and really wants a sweet onion teriyaki. She walks in to the sub shop, and sighs. It smells like heaven on earth to her. She walks up to the counter and orders her food.

“Jenny.” A voice she knows well says. She hasn't seen him in ten weeks, and never wanted to see him again. She looks up to her ex-boyfriend Ryan. She opens her sandwich and takes a bite. “Can I sit?” She swallows and blinks her eyes at him. “Please.” He begs, and she nods.

“What do you want?” She says, as he is sitting down.

He stares at her, and looks down at the table. “I want to tell you I’m sorry. I know it doesn’t mean much, but I can't stop hating myself. I can't believe what I did, and I want to kick my own ass.” He looks up at and she sees tears in his eyes. The whole time they date she never seen him cry, not even when his father died. “I can't get your face out of my head, Jenny. I never loved anyone the way I love you.”

Jennifer shakes her head. “No, you have no right in telling me you love me. You cheated on me, with some blonde.”

“I know, I know and I hate myself for that. I just felt lonely and she was there.” He says and reaches for her hand.

She pulls her hand away before he could touch her. “I don't care if you were lonely, now you can fuck anyone you want.”

He aches his eyebrow. “Just like you did the same night you found me in bed with Sam?” So the blondie has a name, Jennifer smiles.

“I did, and I know Megan told you. So why are you here? You should already know we aren’t getting back together. I am with Phoenix.” Hurt flashes on his face, and for once she doesn't feel bad for him.

“Jenny, you don’t know him.” He says and then brings his eyes up to hers. “You know me, I want to be there for you and your baby.” He stands up and walks towards her. He drops to one knee, and pulls out a little black box. She waited for five years for him to do this, and he decides now he wants to marry her. “Jennifer Marie Cruz, will you make me that happiest man on earth and be my wife.” She hears the door's bell make a noise and looks up into angry midnight blue eyes.

“You got to be kidding me.” She says as she is shaking her head and hopes Phoenix doesn't do anything. “Get up, please you are embarrassing yourself.”

He gets off of his knee and stares down at her. “Jenny you know I am the better choice.”

She glances up at Phoenix, and he is walking to Ryan. She shakes her head, but he doesn't stop moving. “Phoenix is the better choice. I love him and I am having his babies.” His eyes widen.

“Babies?” She nods, and he laughs. “Well that is news, but Jenny you don’t love him. From what I got he fucked you and left you. You know your father will disown you if you are pregnant and not married.” Phoenix taps on Ryan's shoulder, and Ryan looks over his shoulder. “Yes?”

Phoenix give him an evil smile. “I am Phoenix.” Ryan turns to look at Jennifer and she nods. “Now, I believe she turn down your proposal.”

Ryan is shorter that Phoenix by a good four inches. He jerks his shoulder away and looks back at Jennifer. “Jenny?” There was a time when she would have done anything for
him, now she just feels sick.

“No, I will not marry you.” She can see his shoulders drop, and he hangs his head.

“I will always love you Jennifer.” He glances at her one more time and turns around to leave. She watches him leave, and can feel Phoenix heated glare on her.

“So I leave you for a few hours and you are getting proposals.” She grabs her sandwich and takes a big bite. “Darling I wanted to kill him.” He sits across from her, and places his hands on the table.

She shakes her head. “You wouldn’t have done anything.” She smiles at him and takes one of his hands.

He nods, “I wanted to rip of his heart.” He looks down, and frowns. “Will your dad disown you, because of me?” She already thought about this, and knows he will. He will also cut off her trust, well what he can. She was her grandfather's favorite, and he left someone money to her.

She squeezes his hand. “I'm not sure, but it is possible.”

“Then marry me.” Her mouth drops open, and she starts to laugh.

She shakes her heat. “You don’t want to marry me. You are just doing it to help me and I don’t want that. I will only marry you if you love me, and want to be with me forever. Not because of what my dad wants.” He opens his mouth and she smile as she is shaking her head. “No my love, I know you think you can't fall in love with me. But in time I think you will.” She smiles at him.

  “I don't know, but I am trying.”

“I know.” He smiles at her, and she can't believe he is hers.

“Now, let's get back to work.” She stands up, and throws away her trash.

Phoenix takes her hand and she grins.

They walking into the office holding hands, and she doesn’t care who sees her. She loves Phoenix, and hopes in time he will love her. He squeezes her hand one last time, before letting go. She walks to her desk and he walks into his office.

Jennifer knows she is completely in love with Phoenix and she wants to rip out her own heart. There are times when Phoenix looks at her, and she thinks he is starting to have more feelings for her. Then she thinks she is fooling herself, he has already told her that he doesn't know how to love. She hopes what they have will be enough for both of them.

When her office phone rings she jumps. “Mr. DuPont office.” She says.

“I need to talk to Phoenix.” A woman’s raspy voice says.

“May I ask who is calling?” Jennifer says sweetly.

The woman sighs. “No.” Jennifer was told not to let anyone talk to Phoenix without finding out who was calling. “But if you must know, I am his mother.” There are many things Jennifer wants to say to this woman.

“Please hold.” She says through her teeth.

  ***

Phoenix smiles at his office phone. His beautiful Jennifer is calling. “Yes darling angel. Have you changed your mind about marrying me?”

She laughs, and it is the sweetest sound he has heard. When she laughs it makes his chest tight, and warm. “No, but you have a phone call. The woman says she is your mother.”

He hasn't talked to his mother in over ten years. “Put her through.”

“Phoenix, I am here if you need me.” He smiles, that is the angel in her.

“Thank you darling.” He picks up his phone when he sees it flashing. “Hello?” He feels like he is ten years old again, and wanting his mother to love him.

“Phoenix son, how are you?” Her voice is more raspy then he remembers.

He rubs his forehead. “I know you didn't call to chat, why are you calling?” He says and has a good feeling he already knows what she wants.

“Now is that away you talk to your own mother?” She raises her voice.

He can feel his anger rising, and kind of wishes he asks Jennifer to come in here. She can calm him down, with just her smile. “My mother died a few years ago.” She will know he is talking about her mother. There is a silence on the other end, and she shakes his head. “What do you want Amanda?” He can't bring himself to call her mom or anything to do with that.

“I am in trouble. I need money, and I know you have it. I have search the internet, and read every I could find.” She sounds proud of him.

Phoenix sighs, no matter what this is the woman that gave birth to him. Yes, she isn't the mother she should have been, but he has an urge to help her. “How much?”

“Twenty-thousand.” She says, and drops his mouth. That is a lot of money, and he wants to know why.

  “Why?”

“Damn it Phoenix, I just do!” She yells.

“Fine stop by my office and I will write you a check. But after this I want nothing to do with you.”

She laughs. “Phoenix, I am the one that wants nothing to do with you. You are a demon and you belong in hell.” She hangs up the phone and the last thing he hears is her laughter.

  ***

Jennifer wants to check on Phoenix. She has a feeling that he needs her, she stands up and knock on his door.

She looks at the intercom and smiles when it turns green. “Come in darling.” His voice sounds drained.

As soon as she walks in she shuts the door. She turns around and sees Phoenix at his desk with his head in his hands. She rushes to him, and grabs his head.

“Oh Phoenix.” She says, and he opens his eyes.

With his midnight blues pinning her she can feel her heart racing. “She wants money.” He says, and right now he reminds her of a little lost boy.

“Well I hope like hell you said no.” She says as she runs her fingers through is silly brown wavy hair.

“She is still my mother, no matter how I wish she wasn't.” She smiles down at him, and lowers her lips to his. He pulls her closer, and moans when his lips touch hers.

He pulls into his lap, and she giggles. “I can't get that sound out of my head.” He grins down at her and slowly kisses her. Jennifer wraps her arms around his neck. She is crazy about Phoenix, and wonders what he feels for her. He moves his lips from hers and down her neck. “I feel like I am going crazy when I don't have you in my arms.” He moves his warm lips to her ear lobe, and brings it into his scorching mouth.

Phoenix's office phone starts ringing. “Shit, darling that is probably my mother.” He brings his midnight blue eyes to hers. He just smiles as he stares into her eyes.

She clears her throat, “I should get off of your lap.” He tightens his arms around her back.

“I don't want you to, you are where you belong.” She smiles up at him, and bring her hand to his face.

“I know you don't love me, but it doesn't stop me. I am completely in love with you Phoenix DuPont.” His smile falls a little.

  “Then marry me.” He says.

She shakes her head, she doesn't want to have a loveless marriage. “Not until you can love me.” He opens his mouth to say something, but she places her fingers over his lips. “I know what you said, and I understand. But I won't marry you until then, I don't want a loveless marriage. I just want to be with you.”

He smiles his warming at her. “Darling you have me.” He kiss the tip of her nose.

Jennifer gets off of his lap. “I can't be drain by you, so I want you to just be with me.” She looks down, and prays he will agree to what she wants.

“I will try, I don’t want to fuck up what we have.” She feels his fingers under her chin, he nudges her chin up. “Darling, I don't mess around on you, you are what I want.” There is a knock at the door, and she doesn't miss the hurt he gets in his eyes.

“I will be right outside if you need me.” She smiles at him, and he nods.

“Okay, I just want to get this over with.” He moves away from her, and stands behind his large desk.

Jennifer walks to the office door, and opens it to a woman waiting. She has long wavy brown hair, and chocolate brown eyes. Phoenix's mother is about five foot, five inches tall, and skinny. Really skinny. Those chocolate brown eyes narrow on her.

“Hello, Phoenix says to go right in.” Jennifer says, and has
an urge to put her hand on her stomach. Protecting her unborn babies.

The other woman's eyes glance down at Jennifer's stomach. “You need to kill that demon in you.” She reaches out to touch Jennifer, but she moves back out of her way.

Jennifer runs into a solid warm body. “If you want what you came for, then get in here and leave Jennifer alone.”

Jennifer keeps her eyes on the other woman, she sees her nod slightly. “Fine, but you need to tell her what you are.”

“Ma'am I know what Phoenix is, and what our babies will be. It is you that is the monster.” Jennifer says, and then walks pass the other woman.

  ***

Phoenix watches Jennifer walks out of his office and stares at the woman that gave birth to him. She looks bad, like she is on drugs. He pulls out his checkbook and does what she wants. He walks back to her, and shoves the check at her.

“Here, take this and I don’t ever want to see you again.”

“How could you Phoenix? How can you make more of you?” He glares at her, and he can feel his eyes growing darker.

“You need to leave, and like I said Amanda I don't want to see you.”

She nods, “trust me I won't see you again.”

There is a question that has bugged him his whole life. “Did my father tell you what he was?”

She shakes her head, but Phoenix doesn't feel sorry for her. “No, I didn't find out until a week before I had you.”

“Do you have any pictures of my father?” He has never seen a picture of his father.

He doesn’t miss the hate in her big brown eyes. “No, I got rid of everything of his.” She says coldly.

Phoenix smiles at her, she did get rid of everything that reminded her of his father. “So what is the money for?”

She looks away, as she plays with her long brown wavy hair. “I just need it, I owe people.”

He sighs, “If you need more I have it.” Amanda looks down, and he watches her back at him.

“Why would you help me? I have done nothing for you.”

He puts his hands on her shoulders. “Because you are my mother no matter what.” And he is the better person that will forgive her.
