“Maybe.” Eddie wiped away his tears. “But I hope the time comes when the world doesn’t need martyrs anymore.”
Eddie hugged Jamie and Ellen. They started walking back to the car, but Eddie stopped them. “Can you wait a minute?”
“Sure,” Jamie said. He watched Eddie go back to the overlook and cut down a couple of branches from a nearby tree. He made a cross out of the branches and planted it into the ground.
When he returned, Eddie took Jamie’s hand and said, “I love you.”
“I love you, too, Eddie.”
Together, they walked back to the car.
About the Author
Joel Gomez-Dossi became a novelist by way of journalism, theater, television, and digital media production. He was a stage manager for several theaters in the Midwest and Southwest; a producer for television projects; and a production manager for the Emmy Award-winning PBS science series Newton’s Apple.
Joel has written about film and theater for many regional publications across the country and penned an entertainment column for the queer press that ran in twelve states. His first novel, Pursued, was published in December 2012. Joel and his husband live happily ever after in upstate New York with their dog, a Treeing Walker Coonhound.
