The Beginning—A Duet: Ryder & Two Worlds Colliding

by Jani Kay

“Jade, are you okay, honey?” Rebecca asked with concern in her voice, looking Jade in the eye as she pressed her shoulder reassuringly. Another pang of jealousy speared my heart. Rebecca was way closer to Jade than she ever was to me. I always felt like the odd person out, never fitting the mold.

“I'm fine. Ryder saved me from—” Her cheeks were flushed as she gazed back at Ryder.

“Talk about lucky. I nearly killed a fucking cowboy tonight. Five minutes later . . . this would not have ended well.” His eyes bored into me, the accusation still clear in his tone.

Razor took a step closer to Ryder. “Hang on, brother. Lexi didn’t force Jade to go with Cowboy. Quit blaming her.”

I sucked in a breath. No man had ever stepped up to defend me. Ever. Razor pulled me to his chest, his arm wrapped around my shoulder. His signal was clear.

Ryder raised an eyebrow. “Anyway, we just came to tell you that Jade’s leaving with me. Didn’t want Rebecca to worry.”

“That’s cool. Bruce said he’d take me home. I'm ready to go now too. I've had enough for one night,” Rebecca said, smiling at Ratbag. She refused to call him by the name Ryder had given him. As fellow Australians, they could talk for hours on end, and it was obvious that Ratbag had a hell of a crush on Rebecca.

“It’ll be my pleasure, Becca. Anything for a lady.” Ratbag’s grin nearly split his face.

Rebecca kissed Jade’s cheek, then mine. “Okay, see you later,” she greeted in the typical Aussie way.

Ryder kissed Jade in front of everybody, making his possession clear.

“Get a room you two,” Razor laughed.

Ryder wiggled his eyebrows. “We already have,” he said, flashing a white plastic card at us, “We’re just on our way.” Jade blushed even deeper. What the hell did Ryder see in her? It still puzzled me that he was so taken with her.

A minute later and Razor and I were alone again. He let me go and stood with his eyes scrunched up, staring at my face. “I'm not a patient man, Lexi. You still haven’t answered my questions.

Surprised by the loss I felt the second he let me go, I licked my lips. My throat had gone dry and for once I was at a loss for a smartass reply. This was it. If I refused Razor, he might walk out of here and never give me a second glance.

I’d felt safe in Razors arms, against his chest, feeling his heartbeat against my shoulder. I'd never felt like that with any man before. Sure, I'd felt lust and want and need. But never safe. Never protected. It shocked the hell out of me.

I’d not realized until that moment that Razor gave me exactly what I truly craved. A sense of belonging. Because somehow that’s what I felt while I’d stood in his embrace—warm and secure, and for the first time in a long time it wasn’t lust that drove my decisions. I wanted to feel like that again. Cherished for who I was, warts and all. Razor gave me that.

Stepping back into his embrace, I placed my arms around his neck and buried my face in his chest. He groaned as he pulled me into his hard body, as if he too had missed feeling my softness against him. We stood like that for a while, just soaking up one another.

Cupping my chin, he lifted my face to his so that he could look at me. Staring into my eyes, I'd never seen Razor this serious. “Lexi, I need you to understand one thing. Once I’ve fucked you, you are mine, babe. There is no going back. I won’t allow it.”

“I know,” I whispered. “I got that about you.”

“And? Fuck woman, you are making me crazy here,” he hissed.

“Yes.” I whispered, not breaking eye contact.

His eyes gleamed and a slow smile spread across his face as if he couldn’t believe his ears and it was taking him a while to register my answer.

“Really? You mean that?” His voice was low and hoarse.

I nodded. He swept me off my feet and lifted me into the air. “Fuck, yes!”

His mouth came crashing down on mine, kissing me until I was breathless. He squeezed me against him with brute strength, my feet still not touching the ground.

“You won’t regret it, babe. I’m going to make you mine and you are going to fucking love it. And I wasn’t joking about my big cock either.”

My pussy clenched at his words. I was dying to find out. “Let’s get out of here and you can show me.”

We both laughed. I liked making Razor happy.

  This time I kissed him.

It was a good start. Just maybe I’d finally met my match.

I hope you enjoyed these Bonus Chapters.

  Chapter 1 ~ Ryder

I’ve never been as nervous as this in my entire life. Not even when I had to go to court or was cross examined by the cops. I shook a cigarette from the packet and lit it, sucking the nicotine into my lungs. I wasn’t a regular smoker, but I’d picked up the habit when I was a kid in juvie. I quickly found that it helped calm my nerves, so whenever I was about to explode with nerves, a few drags usually helped.

“Relax, Ryder. She doesn’t bite.” Bill laughed, but his voice was equally nervous. He was trying to reassure me, but I could tell he was apprehensive as hell himself.

“It’s not every day I get to meet my half-sister for the first time. Until a few weeks ago I didn't even know she existed. And now I'm going to come face to face with her. That’s a big fucking deal, Bill.” He was cool with me calling him Bill, there was no way I was going to call a virtual stranger Dad just because his loins sired me.

My gaze fell on the tall brunette entering the restaurant. My mouth dropped open. She was beautiful. Elegant and perfectly poised, she could’ve been a model for some fancy fashion house.

She didn't smile as she walked to ward us. Her eyes were guarded beneath long black lashes and her mouth set in a determined line. I could tell she was used to getting her way. Coming to stand in front of Bill, she virtually ignored me. She didn't attempt to kiss him or anything I’d imagine a daughter would do who hadn’t seen her father for a while.

“Father,” she said coolly as she reached our table. Bill awkwardly tried to kiss her, but she turned her cheek and his lips barely got to touch her skin.

She looked at her watch. “Look, I don’t have a lot of time. You said there was something extremely important you needed to tell me.” Her gaze traveled to me and she turned her nose up slightly as she appraised me. Yeah, I was used to that from snooty bitches. Even Jade had that reaction when she first met me. A smirk curled around my lips as I sat down.

I could see she was curious as hell as to why I was here. But I’d let Bill do the talking. After all, it was his party. Both of them took their seats and stare
d at one another uncomfortably. I waved the waitress over. Man, I needed a beer, my throat was dry as hell.

“Anything to drink?” I asked after I ordered a large beer.

“Yes, I think I need a drink. Martini, no olives,” she shot at the waitress.

Bill ordered whiskey. A triple. I could see why he needed it.

“Eva, I want you to meet Ryder. That’s why I asked you to come today. And because I miss you, of course.” Bills eyes were sad, his mouth turned downward. For a moment I felt sorry for the guy. To lose your wife and your daughter must’ve been quite hard on him.

For the first time, she turned to me and actually really looked at me. Her steel blue eyes were remarkable. A small smile twisted her lips as she took in my long hair tied into a ponytail and her gaze traveled up my arms ....tattoos.

“A new sign-up? Band or solo?” she asked.

“Neither,” I grunted, taking a sip of my beer. Shit, it tasted good.

“Oh. Sorry. I thought you were a rocker. You certainly look like one.”

“Honey, Ryder is your half-brother. I managed to trace him after all these years.” His voice tapered down as she gasped, her eyes wide.

“He... he’s my brother?” She looked at me as if I’d grown two heads.

“Yeah. Your father’s indiscretion caught up with him,” I drawled, amused by the surprise on her face.

“I thought you should meet. You haven’t known one another as kids, but maybe...”

She turned to face Bill. “Why didn't you tell me over the phone that you were bringing him? You said it had something to do with Mommy. Now this?” She held up her hands, gesturing to me.

“Would you still have agreed to come? I didn't think you would.” Bill said.

“Listen sweetheart, if it’s okay with you, we can both walk out of here and pretend the other doesn’t exist. That’s fine by me. I didn't know about you till a few weeks ago. Clearly you don’t need more family. I'm just fine with that, ‘cause I already have a family. Nice meeting you.”

Downing the rest of my beer, I pushed to my feet, ready to leave. I didn't know what exactly to expect, but if my so-called sister didn't want to know me, there was no point in dragging this awkwardness out any longer.

She grabbed hold of my arm. “No, wait.” She looked up at me from under her lashes. “I'm sorry. I behaved like a brat. It’s just... I hate surprises. Daddy should know that by now. Let’s have another drink and see if we can fix this bad start.”

As was normal for these fancy restaurants, a waitress appeared out of nowhere. I was slowly getting used to it. We ordered another round of drinks and started chatting. At least, that’s what she did. She interrogated me about my childhood, my years in juvie, and the MC club. Everything. Until I’d had enough of answering her damn questions.

“OK. That’s enough about me now. Your turn. And don’t skip anything.” Fuck, if I could get her talking, maybe she’d quit asking me any more questions.

Bill sat back, a lot more relaxed than when we had arrived. He was on to his third triple whiskey. “Shall we order some food?” he asked, looking at the menu.

She nodded. “Why not? I’m starving. How about you, Ryder?”

Women never ceased to amaze me. Her hostility had completely melted and now she was acting as if we’d known one another our whole lives. Go figure.

“Yeah. I’ll have a steak. Medium rare.”

She laughed. “Oh, this is a Michelin rated restaurant. I doubt they do steaks.”

Bill piped up. “If Ryder wants a steak, Ryder will have a steak.” He smiled at the waitress. “Please ask the chef for a special order?”

She nodded, slightly taken aback by my less than elegant tastes. But fuck that, I wasn’t going to push some indescribable fancy food around my plate and leave here feeling hungry.
