Zac Power Extreme Missions

‘They got away,’ said Zac’s mum, looking annoyed. ‘A BIG sub picked them up while we were rescuing you three.’

  SPLASH!

Zac looked out the window and saw that the rescue sub had rolled up onto the beach. They were back on the island.

The sky was getting dark, and the first stars had started to appear.

‘So did you get it?’ Grandpa asked him. ‘Did you get IRIS?’

Zac shook his head. ‘I left it down there. It was ruined by the water and crushed to bits in the explosion, probably.’

Zac looked up at Grandpa and was surprised to find that he was smiling.

‘Good,’ Grandpa said. ‘I’m glad. IRIS was too terrible, even for GIB. I should have destroyed it the first time around. The world is much better off without it.’

Zac and his family climbed out onto the beach. Leon’s MicroLab was parked nearby, and a GIB helicopter stood next to it, waiting to take them home.

Grandpa turned to Zac’s mum and dad, hugging each of them in turn. Then he came over to Zac and Leon.

‘It’s been a pleasure, boys,’ Grandpa said, putting an arm around them both. ‘Great working with you again.’

Zac looked up at him. ‘Aren’t you coming home with us on the helicopter?’

Grandpa shook his head. ‘I have to get back to my undercover work.’

  HISSSSSS!

Just then, a doorway slid open in midair. Grandpa’s Invisibles team was here to pick him up.

Zac could hardly speak. They’d just finished the biggest spy mission in the history of GIB, and he’d been hoping for a bit of normal Grandpa time when they got back home.

‘Sorry, kiddo,’ said Grandpa. ‘But you know how it is. BIG aren’t taking a break, so neither can we. I’ve got something for each of you before I leave, though.’

Grandpa reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small gold screwdriver. He turned to Leon.

‘My lucky screwdriver,’ he said, handing it to Leon. ‘I used it to build all of my greatest GADGET inventions. I want you to have it for your collection.’

Leon’s eyes went wide. ‘Grandpa, are you sure?’

‘Just make sure you put it to good use,’ Grandpa smiled.

Then he pulled something else from his pocket and dropped it into Zac’s hand. It was a set of silver dog-tags, engraved with Zac’s name and the Invisibles logo.

‘These are for you,’ Grandpa told Zac. ‘A set of Invisibles ID tags. I am hoping you’ll join me one day.’

‘Wow,’ said Zac. He took the tags and slipped them on over his head. ‘Thanks!’

‘No worries,’ Grandpa grinned. He took one last look at Zac and Leon, and stepped into the invisible jet. ‘Time to get going. I’m sure we’ll see each other again soon!’

  HISSSSSS!

The door slid closed and Zac heard the rumble of the jet’s engine.

‘I’d better go too,’ said Leon, heading off towards his MicroLab. ‘I’m going to grab a pizza and then check in at GIB HQ on the way home. You should come with me, Zac. GIB will want a full report of the mission.’

Zac suddenly realised that he was starving. ‘Good thinking,’ he said, his stomach rumbling.

‘Oh, no you don’t,’ said Zac’s mum, grabbing his arm. ‘You’re coming home with us in the chopper. You need to get some sleep. You’ve had a big four days.’

‘What?’ said Zac. ‘How come Leon’s allowed to go?’

‘Leon’s older than you are,’ said his mum. ‘Besides, he’s just had a sleep.’

‘He was knocked unconscious by a super-gadget!’ Zac pointed out. ‘I don’t think that really counts.’

‘Tell you what,’ said Zac’s mum. ‘We can stop off for fish and chips on the way home.’

‘Make it a pizza and you’ve got a deal,’ Zac grinned at her. ‘I’m feeling extremely hungry!’
