Horror: Cabin In The Woods: Until Dawn

by Dustin Brubaker

Lucy enjoyed the ride as much as she could. The wind in her hair, the sun on her skin, all those clichés that people use to describe a nice drive. They all applied here. Lucy loved it. She couldn’t wait to see what the rest of the drive would be like once they’d hit the woods.

It wasn’t long until that occurred. The sun and blue skies gave way to trees and green bushes. It looked wonderful, beautiful in a way Lucy hadn’t expected.

She looked over at Molly. She was looking away from Lucy, outside of the car. Her auburn hair was blowing in the wind. Part of it wrapped around her chin, just barely. The rest flowed with the current. It was entrancing.

The paved road carefully transitioned into a gravel laid road. The car began to bounce up and down as the tires kicked rocks back and forth.

“We’re almost there.” Eric called back. “Shouldn’t be too bumpy for much longer.” Sure enough Lucy saw the edges of the cabin approaching. There was a green van already sitting in the driveway. Lucy assumed that it was Bruce’s.

The convertible came to a crawl as Eric brought it up the driveway. The bumps became slow humps as Eric took the car right beside Bruce’s van. They came to a stop and he shifted the gear into park.

“We have arrived!” He declared. He smiled welcomingly at everything and exited the car. The girls joined him and helped take their stuff out of the trunk of the car. Lucy kicked herself mentally for having to bring so much stuff. But she assuaged herself with a reminder that she’ll be using everything while on this trip.

Eric went ahead of them and knocked on the door. Lucy set her suitcases down while they waited.

“Are you sure they’re here?” Molly asked.

Eric pointed to the van. “Bruce’s car is here, so… I certainly hope so.”

Lucy sighed and entertained herself by looking around. There wasn’t much to see beyond trees, leaves, and bushes. She thought she could see the lake just beyond the brush, but she wasn’t sure.

There still wasn’t an answer at the door five minutes later. “Maybe they went down to the lake?” Lucy asked more as a question.

Eric shrugged. “Well, I guess we’ll just head inside and wait for them to get back.” He set down this things and pulled on the door. The cabin’s door was wooden and clearly hadn’t been used in a really long time. It took Eric a few tugs in order for it to give. It scrapped against the ground, kicking up a plume of dust in its wake.

“Jesus…” Eric said as he picked up his things and brought them into the house. Lucy and Molly followed suit and set them down in the living room.

Within seconds of doing so they could hear soft moans coming from somewhere in the house. Lucy raised an eyebrow and turned to Molly. She was already red faced and giggling slightly.

The two girls turned to Eric. He looked them and shrugged. “What do you want me to do about it?” He whispered.

They both motioned with their heads to the rooms. “Go get them.”

“Why would I want to do that?” Eric asked, completely confused.

“Because we don’t want to do it. The last thing we want to see if Bruce, totally naked.” Molly told him. Lucy couldn’t agree more.

Eric slowly realized he didn’t have any choice in the matter. “Fine.” He said. He sighed and took in a deep breath. There was a great deal of mental preparation for what he was about to do.

Then he went for it. Lucy and Molly covered their mouths and waited. Eric disappeared around the corner. There was a knock on a door and then it swung open. There was a bit of screaming, lots of “oh fuck!”, and something that sounded like a small squeal.

Seconds later, Eric came running back. His face was flush red with embarrassment. He was rubbing his eyes intensely. “I would put soap in there if it wouldn’t make my eyes burn more.” He said.

Lucy and Molly were practically on the floor with laughter. Through the tears in her eyes Lucy saw Bruce and Lauren coming into the room. Bruce was zipping up his pants and Lauren was pulling up and over her bra.

“You guys are fucking jerks.” Lauren said as her head popped out of the shirt.

Lucy finally stopped laughing long enough to spit out a few words. “Well it’s not our fault you couldn’t hear us knocking on the door for five minutes straight.”

  Lauren’s face went red. “Sorry…”

“Just because you won this vacation doesn’t mean you get to spread yourself all over the place.” Molly said to Bruce.

He shrugged. “Whatever man. You guys wanna watch next time, that’s fine.”

“Bruce!” Lauren called out. She shook her head while everyone else laughed. Bruce continued to look like he didn’t know what the problem was.

“Well,” Eric said, hoping to break the awkwardness. “Perhaps everyone should get settled in? We have a great week ahead of us!”

Everyone smiled and laughed awkwardly. Then one by one they all took their belongings and went into their separate rooms. There were only four rooms, but since Lauren and Bruce were taking a room together, everyone else would have their own space.

Lucy and Eric had talked about sharing a room. But they decided it would be better to have their space. They’d be spending enough time together during the vacation itself.

The room Lucy had was small. Nothing more than a bed, a window, and a nightstand with a lamp. That was fine, she didn’t need much space. She wouldn’t be setting up shop here, so to speak anyways. She would keep her clothes inside the suitcase and take out what she needed when she needed it.

She heaved her suitcases on to the bed and unzipped them. But before she started unpacking she decided to have a look outside the window. She was curious about her view.

At first Lucy didn’t think it was anything to be amazed at. Just more trees and leaves to be looking at. But there was something serene in it, she thought after a few minutes. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad after all.

Lucy unpacked very little to start with. She took out her phone charger and plugged it into the outlet right behind the nightstand. Then she plugged her phone in. Once it began charging she made sure to text her mother that she had arrived and that everything was going according to plan so far.

There was a knock on the door before Lucy could do anything else. “Hey.” It was Eric.

  “What’s up?” Lucy asked.

“Bruce brought some drinks. We’re gonna take them down to the lake and see what’s up. Did you wanna come?”

Lucy flashed him a bright smile. “Of course!” She paused before gathering her things. “Are we going swimming?”

Eric made a face and shrugged. “Not sure. But there’s no harm in bringing your bathing suit in case.”

Lucy nodded. “Okay.” She pulled her bikini out of the suitcase and began to pull her shirt off. When she didn’t hear Eric close the door, she turned around. He was looking at her expectantly.

“I’ll meet you guys there.” Lucy said.

Eric didn’t say anything, but Lucy thought she saw a hint of disappointment on his face when nodded and closed the door.

When he left Lucy walked over and made sure it the door was closed. Then she pulled the drapes over the window and proceeded to change. She slid off her clothes, making sure to throw her panties and bra into the suitcase, and then put her bikini on. She then put her clothes back on over her.

She felt ready to go. Lucy checked her phone before leaving. There weren’t any messages from her mom yet. She was sure that her mother would be calling her all night long later on. So Lucy would be more than happy to have left her phone charging by “accident”.

She ran out of the cabin and followed the path down to the lake. She could hear the laughter of the others echo up to her. It got her excited and it put a little pep in her step as she ran down.

The lake was beautiful. It was larger than Lucy expected. She could scarcely see the other side. In the distance she could just make out trees. In reality it was more of a green blur.

“Hey! Get down here!” someone called. It
sounded like Molly. Lucy smiled and ran down the rest of the path.

Bruce had set up a bunch of chairs right near the water. There was also a cooler set near what Lucy assumed was Bruce’s chair. Inside was an assortment of beers that they’d be enjoying very shortly.

“It’s about time.” Eric said. He was teasing her, Lucy thought.

“Sorry, needed to change.” Lucy said.

Molly came forward, already undressed and in her bathing suit. It was a bikini like Lucy’s. Hers was blue though and perfectly cupped her breasts and curved her buttocks. Lucy was certainly impressed.

  “Hey there.” She said.

Molly returned the silly grin Lucy had on her face. She reached into the cooler and grabbed a bottle from it. She extended her arm, offering it to Lucy.

“Have a drink with me?” Molly said.

Lucy gladly took the drink and popped the cap off. Molly grabbed her own drink and did the same. The two clinked bottles and drank heartily.

Then everyone else grabbed their beers and did the same thing. Lucy finished her bottle in one go and tossed the empty bottle back into the cooler. Without thinking she then pulled off her top and slid off her shorts, revealing the yellow bikini beneath.

Everyone gave off a few whistles of approval and stared at her. Lucy giggled shyly. The attention was nice, but it made her a little nervous.

“Very nice.” Molly said. “Give me a little spin.”

Lucy laughed and did as she was told. Molly nodded, her hand on her head. She held a few fingers in front of her lips, her eyes clearly undressing Lucy as she walked.

“You’re a lucky dude.” Lucy heard Bruce say to Eric. Lauren punched him in the shoulder and made a face at him. Bruce waved her off while Eric agreed with him with a nod.

“Shall we?” Molly said, gesturing to the lake.

Lucy was beginning to feel the heat on her skin and while a tan wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world, neither would a refreshing dip in the pool.

  “Let’s do it!” She said.

Everyone laughed and hollered with excitement. Molly went first, running off towards the small dock that extended into the lake. She hit the edge and jumped into the water. There was a small splash and Molly disappeared under water. Seconds later she reemerged, her hair flat against her back, everything drenched in water. She looked like one of those models in the water photos, Lucy thought.

Lucy was next up. She charged the dock and leapt into the water. There was a rush of cold air and then she descended under the water. The water was cold, but not ice cold thankfully. She heard a few more booms underwater. Lucy dragged her hair behind her head and rose from the water. She saw that everyone else had already gotten inside the water.

Between the five of them a great amount of fun was had. There was a good amount of swimming, splashing, and the occasional wardrobe malfunction – mostly perpetrated by Lauren.

For whatever reason she decided to wear the tiniest bathing suit she could find. It was basically a string that sat between her ass and two small triangles over her breasts. It was a wonder she hadn’t given up at this point. She had nice boobs though, Lucy thought, so it wasn’t all bad.

By the time they’d all finished, the sun was beginning to set. Which meant that was it was almost time for dinner. Lucy couldn’t wait, all the swimming and fun she was having had given her quite the appetite. So once the sky had turned orange they grabbed their clothes and the beer cooler and made their way back up to the cabin.

Lucy took her time drying off and sliding into her pajamas. There wasn’t any rush since Bruce and Eric were out at the campfire grilling whatever meet they’d brought. Her clothes consisted of a cute pair of pink short shorts and a loose tank top.

When she left her room – feeling freshened up and dry – the smells of fire and cooking meat filled her nose. Her stomach grumbled just at the thought of what she was about to eat.

Lucy made her way to the living room and saw that the two girls were sitting on opposite sides of the room, reading their own books. She saw through the window that the sun had nearly disappeared completely and soon it would be dark outside.

“Should we start a fire?” Lucy asked.

Both Molly and Lauren looked up from their books, realizing they hadn’t heard her enter.

“Um, sure.” Lauren said. “I think if we open up the windows we can cool it down a bit in here and get a nice breeze going. The fire will make it rather cozy.”

“Great!” Lucy said. She ran back to her room and grabbed a book of her own. Now seemed like the best time to get in some quality reading time while the guys were outside.

When she came back Lauren was already getting the logs ready to go. She put in some old newspaper that had been left by the previous tenant and struck a match. The smell of fire began to rise.

“Perfect.” Lucy said. She put her book on the couch and went to open the windows. One by one she lifted the windowsill up to let in a bunch of fresh air.

The last window she approached was facing the fire where Eric and Bruce were. When she lifted the window she could hear them talking to each other. The voices weren’t loud enough to make out the words though. She wondered what they were talking about.

Bruce slid the spatula under the burger and flipped it. The meat began sizzling as the heat cooked it.

“So how are you and Lucy doing?” Bruce asked as Eric began preparing the bread.

Eric shrugged. “We’re good. At least as far as I can tell.”

Bruce raised an eyebrow. His stomach also growled as the smell of food took over him. “Are you sure? That didn’t sound too confident.”

“Well,” Eric began. “We’ve been together for almost six months now and we haven’t really been… intimate.”

“You mean you guys haven’t had sex yet?” Bruce asked. He hoped he wasn’t getting too far into private territory, but Eric had been off for a while now and he needed to make sure he was alright.

Eric made a face. “Not even that. She just seems distant. But whenever I talk to her she seems totally fine. But she’s never really physical with me.”

Bruce’s lips straightened out and he made a face. “That doesn’t sound good dude.”

Eric shrugged again. “You’re probably right. But I don’t want to end it. I feel like if we just communicated properly that things would change.”

Bruce sighed. “Well I’m not gonna tell you how to run your relationship. I just hope things turn around for you.”

Eric smiled. “Thank s dude.” He took another look at the food and nodded. “These all look done. Don’t you think?”

Bruce took a glance. The food definitely looked ready to go. He was thankful. The smell was making him unbelievably hungry. He gathered up as much as he could on the plate nearby.

“You’ll grab the rest?” He asked.

Eric nodded and began stacking the meat on his own plate. They made their way inside to see the girls curled up in their separate chairs, their noses in books.

“Time to eat!” Bruce announced as they walked inside.

The girls cheered and set their books down. “Thank God!” Lucy said. “I’ve been starving.”

They set down everything on the long, wooden dinner table. Besides the plates of burgers and hotdogs were plates of bread, bowls of chips, and plates for everyone to eat off of.

They all gathered around the table and began to pile on the goods. Even the girls, who tended to eat small amounts grabbed as much as they good.

“You weren’t kidding, were you, Lucy?” Eric said, nudging Lucy.

She laughed and shook her head. “Not at all. After swimming I felt like I hadn’t eaten in weeks.”

Bruce waited for everyone to grab their food before getting his own. Together they then moved back to the couch and ate in near silence. People wanted to talk, but they were so hungry they couldn’t help but fill their faces with food.

To Bruce, the meat tasted like heaven. It was bad
enough he had to sit there and cook the stuff. But now he able to taste the deliciousness of his spoils.

Minutes later everyone was finished, washing down their meal with more beer. Bruce looked out the window and saw that the sun was setting. It would be dark soon, which meant that they could light the bonfire in the backyard.

  “Everyone satisfied?” He asked.

There were nods all around the room. “Excellent. I brought us a surprise for when it gets dark.”

Lauren raised an eyebrow. “Oh? You didn’t tell me about that.”

Bruce sighed. “That’s the point of it being a surprise right?”

  Lauren’s eyes narrowed. “Whatever dude.”
