Rage (Wolf Rage Book 2)

I nod my head.
“Are you an innocent Avery?” Cam’s high girly voice shocks me.
I can’t believe he just did that.
I look over at him and see he has his hip out to the side with his hand on his hip.
I burst out laughing. Wow, I can’t believe it. It’s so stupid. But his voice and his girly pose have me laughing the tension leaving my body.
“Now that the fun's over, let's go check out our new house for the next three months.” Nick smiles, bounding up two wooden steps.
I look around for the first time. I can’t believe I totally forgot what was going on. This heat thing is going to be the death of me.
A big two-story white house sits in front of me. The porch is open with two swings hanging up on the right side and the left is sporting a small round table and four chairs. It’s an old Farmhouse.
“I’ll get the bags,” Kayden says.
I nod. Letting Cam pull me up the steps and into the house.
The huge fireplace is the first thing you see coming into the house. A large grey sectional sits in front of it. Nothing else. No t.v. I wonder what Cam’s going to do without his shows.
“NO.” He rasps going around in circles. His wide eyes flickering around the room.
“Stop being so dramatic,” Aden grumbles passing us and going into a hallway.
Cam sticks his tongue out at Aden’s back and I can’t help the small laugh that escapes me.
“I see that,” Aden yells as he disappears around the corner.
Cam’s eyes just about roll out of his sockets, “Let’s find the kitchen. I’m hungry.”
“You're always hungry,” Aden calls out from somewhere in the house.
Cam pulls me behind him and I pull Dean. Wanting one of them close with their calming blanket. I don’t want to have another freak-out.
Cam opens the first old door we come to.
“Nope.”
I look as he pulls me past. It’s a tiny bathroom and I mean tiny. Only a toilet and sink. I hope it’s not the only one.
“Nope.” Another door.
This one is a big bedroom. A king size bed with a pink quilt takes up most of the room.
“Is there even any food here?” I ask.
“Why yes. I had Jeff make sure it was stocked before we got here.” Cam says appalled.
“Chic cling.”
There’s a staircase when I round the corner to the left and a small kitchen to the right. The rest of the rooms must be upstairs.
The kitchen is small. Half of the size of the one back home. I stumble. Home? When did I start considering Jeff’s place home? I don’t have a clue, but it feels good. To finally say I have a home again, not a small room barely big enough for a twin-size bed and bars on the windows. I know I said I should have stayed there in the past but I’m glad I didn’t.
Dean laughs at something Cam did and it makes me that much happier I stayed. That Jeff got me out. That I found these guys.
“So, what are you going to cook,” I ask, taking in the rectangular table in the middle of the kitchen. It’s small having only four chairs. There’s a vase of sunflowers sitting in the middle of the table.
The cabinets are up against the left wall painted a pale blue, with a white stove beside it and a plain jane fridge next to the stove. Not much room for the six of us but it has a personal feel to it.
“Well.” Cam says head in the fridge, “Since it’s almost bedtime. Pancakes and bacon.”
“Sounds good,” I reply pulling out the white chair at the table.
Dean takes a seat next to me, a hand curled under his chin and the other on my thigh.
Aden and Nick walk into the kitchen making it seem that much smaller.
“Is that bacon?” Nick asks, his nose in the air.
“Yep.”
“Good. I’m starving.” Aden grumbles leaning up against the counter watching Cam.
“So, there’s a full bathroom upstairs and three rooms,” Nick says taking a seat across from Dean.
“You, Dean and Kayden can have the room down here.” Aden states.
I feel my heartbeat start to speed up again. No. A sweep of Dean’s thumb has me calming down. Everything is fine. We’ve all slept in the same bed after becoming mates. This is nothing new. Nope just me acting strange again.
I smell fresh rain before I feel him.
Kayden leans down laying a soft kiss on my cheek and pulling the chair over to sit next to me.
“Can you believe Loral? The nerve of that asshat.” Nick gripes.
“Yeah, He thinks he’s entitled to everything.” Kayden sneers.
“Not our Avery. No no no no.” Cam says waving around a pancake splattered spoon.
“Hey,” Aden yells stepping away from Cam’s spoon.
An ornery smirk splashes on Cam's face as he shrugs his shoulder and goes back to his bowl.
I smile. Serves Aden right. That beanie.
“Our stuff is in the room. I’ll save you food if you want to go take a bath before the others use up the hot water.” Kayden whispers.
My eyes widen at that. Six people in this small house. How much do you want to bet there’s only enough hot water for one or two?
I do not want a cold shower or bath. I hate the cold.
“Thanks.” I smile.
I feel content as I walk towards our room. This. Them, they are my home. And it’s the best thing that has ever happened to me. I will protect it until the end of time. No one is going to take them away from me. Not Lorel. Not this stupid Council. They’re going to wish the never bothered us.
CHAPTER FOUR
I can’t help the smirk and a small shake of my head as I enter the bedroom. Lying at the end of the bed is a pile of clothes and my bathroom bag. The black graphic tee is Kayden’s and the hot pink boxer shorts belong to Dean.
They’ve been on this kick wanting me to wear their clothes to bed. At first, it was weird for me never having that kind of thing ever happened before. I got used to it and it became a comfort with their own smell filling the clothes it’s like I'm always surrounded by them and I’ve come to absolutely love it. And who couldn’t love Dean’s choice in underwear? He’s so weird sometimes.
I pause at the end of the stairs hearing Kayden’s husky laugh. I smile heading up the creaky wood stairs. Mine. They are mine and I can’t stop the butterflies that fill me every time I think of it. It’s one of my favorite feelings.
I stop in the middle of the hallway looking left and right. I run my teeth across my lips.
The walls are a soft green. There are five doors in total. Three doors to the left and two to the right, but which one is the bathroom?
“YO Chicka, first door on the right,” Nick yells up the steps.
“Thanks.”
I take off down the hall, opening up the first door on the right. I squeal. Oh my gosh. YES.
I hear growls and stomping feet. Soon I’m surrounded by everyone and two very protective mates.
“What is it?” Kayden snarls looking around.
Dean’s eyes glow as he steps up next to me. I tip my head up and he looks down at me.
“If you’d of used your connection you would have known she’s just excited,” Dean growls out ending everyone’s snarls and growls.
“What?” Cam utters clearly baffled. “She screamed.”
Dean rolls his eyes, his thumb comes up to glide across my parted lips, “What excited you, love?” He whispers leaning down. His eyes looking into mine with that smirk.
“Uh, the bathtub,” I mumble, feeling the blush tint my cheeks.
“A bathtub. She screamed because of a bathtub.” Aden snaps, shaking his head and heading back downstairs.
Cam and Nick give me funny looks following Aden’s pounding feet.
Kayden peeks over my head at the tub and back at me, his head tilting to the side.
“What’s so great about the tub?”
“It’s a claw foot bathtub. They’re the best.
” I say breathlessly as Dean trails his nose up my neck making me all jittery.
“Huh,” Kayden says looking at the tub once more. Next thing I know he’s right in front of me, his warm lips molding to mine.
I tense, but the good kind of muscle tensing I’ve become used to as his soft tongue slips into my mouth tangling with mine.
“Tell me what you want Love,” Dean whispers in my ear, sucking my earlobe in his mouth and nibbling on it.
Heat spreads through me. I gasp in Kayden’s mouth making him kiss me that much harder. His hands tangling in my dark hair.
I would have tumbled to the floor in a gooey mess of sensations if it wasn’t for Dean somehow edging his way in behind me, supporting my weight as my knees gave out.
His arms flex around my waist as I lean back into his strong chest. They both let out this purr growl. That has my toes curling on the hardwood floor. Gosh, that does something to my insides.
Kayden ends the kiss with a nip on my swollen lips.
I feel our bond. The two of them as it tightens and a feeling of their love and lust engulfs me.
“A bath.” I huff out answering Dean’s question.
“Mmm.” Kayden looks into my eyes. His glowing lightly. His lips pulling up into a slow smile.
They both step back and leave without another word or touch.
I’m breathing hard. My heart is racing. A slickness between my legs.
Oh my gosh. They’re trying to kill me.
I stumble the rest of the way into the bathroom on shaky legs, hands landing on the rim of the sink.
My face is flushed. Pupils wide and full of something I’m unfamiliar with seeing on my face.
What do I want? Them.
I feel a splash of fear. I wish I could shut it out. How bad I wish I could. It’s holding me back. From them. I turn away from my reflection looking at the tub.
A sigh comes out.
I haven’t seen a claw foot tub in forever. I remember one when I was younger loving how it was just perfect to lay back on without hurting my back or tailbone.
I hope it’s like I remember.
I grab the plastic stopper and flip the hot water knob as it heats up, I strip out of my clothes. It feels good getting them off. Having traveled in them, they seem so dirty to me.
Turing on the cold water, I pour honey milk bubble bath into the water and watch it bubble up. I for one love bubble baths.
Sinking into the hot water, I sigh as it melts my muscles. Leaning back, I close my eyes. Yes, this bathtub is perfect. Why they ever did away with them is stupid. It fits my back perfectly.
Chapter five
“Man Cam, that was so good.” Nick groans rubbing his belly.
Cam casts a shy smile around the room seeing everyone’s plate empty. It gives him the warm and fuzzy feeling knowing the guys still like his food.
“Did anyone take notice how Breanna didn’t say anything about the mate tags, or Avery’s weird markings on her neck?” Nick says looking around at the group.
“I noticed,” Aden says looking at mine and Dean’s neck where Avery’s name is tagged.
“Why is that?” Cam asks.
“Maybe she just didn’t want to see it. You know how she is.” Nick laughs.
“Maybe.” I murmur looking at Dean for a sign if he knows anything.
“I still can’t get that image out of my mind of Avery pulling her around like a rag doll. Man, that was good.” Nick says rubbing his hands together. “Do you think they will get into it again?”
“More than likely,” Dean says softly looking at me.
Man, he makes me uncomfortable sometimes. That look in Dean’s eyes he gets would put any wolf in their place.
“You know, you guys really shouldn’t do that to her,” Cam mumbles glancing at me and Dean.
I’m confused and shocked. What is he talking about now? The narrowed eye look Cam gives me is unusual, for Cam anyways.
“Why?”
I cringe at Dean’s tone. Please don’t let this blow-up.
“Because.” Cam screeches pushing his chair back and taking his dirty plate to the sink, “Avery is a good blocker. The best I have ever come across. She’s locked down like Fort Knox, but when you two start doing those things, yeah well she’s not the great of a blocker then.”
“Isn’t that why you’re here?” Dean rumbles.
Aden growls.
“Well yeah, but her emotions are all over the place. She’s in heat. It scares her.” Cam stresses making everyone shift in their seats.
It’s quiet while everyone avoids each other's gazes.
Normally when a female comes in heat, she’s kept away from other wolves, especially unmated ones. This is different. They had to come to the Council and everyone was more than surprised when Avery started showing signs of coming into heat on the way here. Being an empath and all. Yet again Avery is different. She’s an Empath with a pure bloodline of wolf DNA and she has not one but two wolf mates which has never happened as far as anyone knows. Empaths don’t form a mate bond with wolves, but she did.
“Let’s go for a run,” Nick says getting up heading to the front door. His suggestion cutting through the tension in the room.
Aden and Dean follow with sneers at each other.
“Kayden you coming,” Nick yells from the front of the house.
“Nope.”
I really should go. A run would do me some good. It’d get rid of this particular tension in my shoulders, but Avery hasn’t came back down yet and I don’t want to miss her.
“Maybe you should go check on her. She should have came down by now.” Cam says washing the dishes.
I should. Shouldn’t I? She’s been up there for an hour.
“Yeah okay.”
“Just. Never mind.” Cam sighs, stopping me at the doorway of the kitchen.
I close my eyes and take a calming breath and turn around facing Cam.
“What is it, Cam?”
Cam’s soapy hands fly through the air, “I don’t like feeling it.” He turns red.
I go white. I should have known Cam could feel it with Avery’s shields down. He’s not a powerful blocker. Avery’s emotions at the time were rather strong.
“Sorry.”
Cam nods, going back to the dishes and I climb the stairs.
A soft knock on the bathroom door gets no answer.
“Avery,” I call knocking on the door. Still no answer.
I know she’s fine. I can feel it through our bond. She’s content. Relaxed. Why isn’t she answering the door?
I bite my bottom lip, “Avery.” Two more loud knocks.
I listen for the slightest sounds. Hearing nothing.
What the hell.
Should I go in? Or would that send Avery into another panic attack?
I pace up and down the hallway. Knock on the door. Still nothing.
“Hey, Cam,” I call down the stairs.
“What are you doing?” Cam asks, walking up the stairs.
“She’s not answering,” I state, my eyes narrowed on the door.
“Maybe she’s busy.” Cam shrugs.
“Maybe but she still should've answered,” I growl.
Cam throws his hands up in the air, “Maybe she fell asleep.”
My eyes go wide. Would she really fall asleep in the bath?
“Don’t look at me. I’m not having her pissed off at me. She’s your mate.” Cam says going back downstairs.
Man, she’s going to be so mad.
With a deep breath, I crack open the door.
“Avery.”
“Avery sweetheart.”
I shake my head and with a deep breath open the door up all the way.
I gulp. My muscles flexing wanting to move.
Cam was right. She is asleep. Naked. The bubbles barely covering her smooth skin.
She’s beautiful. Her winter scent is strong in the room with a hint of honey. The steam streaming out of the bathroom rolls her smell all around
me. I breathe it in.
I take a step and stop. What to do? What to do?
Should I wake her up?
No. I shake my head. She needs the sleep. She hasn’t slept for a whole night ever since Loral came to the house. The most she slept was in the car and still, that isn’t enough for what she’s missed.
I shift from foot to foot.
I could always pick her up and dry her off, dress her. What if she woke up? She would go batshit crazy on me. Go into another panic attack.
I cross my arms looking at her sweet face.
She must have washed her hair. It’s wet, piled on the top of her head, a few pieces on her neck and shoulder.
I clench my jaw, holding in my groan as I follow the slim line of her neck with my eyes. The silver markings of mine and Dean’s tag and the tribal markings stand out. Almost like it’s glittering against her pale skin.
My eyes go down to her small shoulders, her collarbone. I feel my teeth sharpen wanting to bite and nip at her soft skin.
My gaze stops on her chest, the bubbles hardly covering anything. I turn around breathing in deep. Her scent all around me.
I’ll call Dean.
Yep, that’s exactly the right idea. Avery can get mad at Dean for getting her out of the water and dressed while I wait on the sidelines. Watching. I’ll come to her rescue when she wakes up pissed at Dean.
That’s a good idea.
Through our link I send a whispered thought, I need your help.
It takes twenty minutes of pacing in front of the bathroom door. Eyes getting glued on Avery’s naked form before Dean comes up the stairs.
“What is it?” Dean asks.
His face has a glow to it I’ve only seen around Avery. Running must have done Dean well.
I look in the bathroom, “She fell asleep.”
“And she’s still in there, why?” Dean growls.
“She wouldn’t wake up,” I mumble, feeling like a little kid at Dean’s heated words.
“Why didn’t you just take her out?” Dean grinds between his teeth.
I shift from foot to foot. Maybe calling for Dean was a bad idea. Dean’s the first and it's more than likely has him sneering down at me for acting like an embarrassed teen.
“I didn’t want her to be irate,” I say not looking at Dean.
