“Man, fuck that shit Mika,” Ox snarled as he grabbed that back of my hair very snuggly pulling me close to him. He did it just enough to let me know that he was the boss and that he ran the show. He was the man and meant business. I couldn’t do shit but honor that. “You’d better not ever go against me again. You hear me?”

  “Yes baby. Loud and clear.”

  Two Days Later

  Violet

The clock on the wall read 7:12pm. Strolling down the hallway, a smile filled my face as I thought about the amount of money that the insurance company told me I stood to get from Cookie's death. Turns out momma had a huge policy from her former job so I stood to get $750,000 rather than the half a million dollars I originally thought.

It would be all mine courtesy of that old bitch once the paper work checked out with the coroner. She said they already heard that she died of natural causes so the process should be fast and seamless. The shit had me so overjoyed that I could barley think straight.

Moving further down the hall, I nodded my head over to the four nurses sitting at their station. They were so busy hanging out and jibber jabbering at the mouth to one another that they didn't even realize that I wasn't one of their own. I whistled a little tune as I moved past them, straightening my blonde wig simultaneously. They paid me no mind carrying on about their discussion.

Using the old scrubs from the back of my closet at home allowed me to fit in perfectly with them. I had bought the scrubs that time I dated a medical student a few months back who would only date someone who was studying to be a nurse. Although that was yet another failed relationship, little did I know these would come in handy again.

I continued on with my whistling once I came to a stop by the hospital room that held all of my problems. Nothing went as planned that day. Nothing happened the way it should’ve. But this time I was sure not to make anymore mistakes. I entered the room looking around making sure that the coast was clear. The window was wide open displaying the beautiful city night lights through, lighting up the room with a ton of beautiful colors. The scene was so beautiful outside that if it weren’t for the smog and pollution, it might almost look like a bit of heaven.

“Well, we meet again.” Moving closer to Angel’s bedside, it was if my mind was playing tricks on me.

When I walked in she was fast asleep but now her eyes were buck wide and alert like never before. I could tell by the glisten in her eyes that she knew exactly who I was when she looked at me. It was nice to be recognized for my work. Fear slowly crept into that glisten as she squirmed about unable to say much with the tube sticking out of her throat.

One of her arms was oddly handcuffed to the bed while the other was barely mobile. The nurses had strapped her down to the bed so she was unable to remove the tube from her mouth prematurely should she awake without them being there. That much I did know about the medical field. I also knew a few other things, a few other deadly things.

“Awe, that nasty old tube looks painful. Is it painful, Angel?” I leaned over into her face making a funny sad expression and speaking in an adorable baby voice. “Now, why do they have you chained here like an animal huh? That’s not very nice, now is it?”

All she could do was hum and murmur through the tube. Her arms flailed very little as well as her legs and feet. She was basically trapped in her own body. It was a marvelous sight. Just as Cookie was helpless to save her own life, so was Angel. It was the perfect crime and what would be a beautiful death. For years I had been getting away with shit like this. It made me all too happy to get even with the motherfuckas that wronged me. I guess momma was right. I was evil as shit.

“Listen, before you die, I just want to let you know that I’m not the one who did this to you. Okay. I didn’t have anything against you. Hell, I barely even know you.” Anger twisted my expression into a knot. “It was your bitch ass husband who did this to you. All of those nights he spent away from you, he was wrapped up into me. Fucking me, sucking me, loving me. I don’t even know where you came from. He lied to me over and over again. And, for that reason, you have to pay for him.”

Her eyes read of confusion but I could tell she was putting two and two together in her head. The hurt glistened all in her eyes just realizing that her precious prefect marriage wasn’t so damn perfect after all. She and her unborn child were living a damn lie. There was no white picket fence at the end of my dark gloomy tunnel. So why should she have one around her luxury home? Staring into her eyes, I couldn’t help but picture him kissing her, holding her, loving her. Why couldn’t he ever love me that way?

“You were the reason he could never love me like he should. You were holding him back from me.” I circled the bed going around to the other side leaning over placing my lips to her ear. “So you ugly bitch, if I can’t have him no one will.”

Tears exited her eyes watering down like she knew what was coming next. There was nothing she could do to fight it. She didn’t have much of a choice in the matter. Defending herself was out of the question given her state. I took the needle from my shirt pocket and inserted its long stem into her IV drip injecting a large bubble of air to flow through the tube, taking a stride on through awaiting the reach of her vein.

“Oh and just so you know, I’m going to fuck the shit out Vega one last time before I send him to meet his maker too. Hopefully he’ll go to hell for breaking my heart,” I whispered into her ear as she panicked. “And, God just might have enough mercy on your soul to let you into heaven. If you’ve been a good little girl that is.”

“Mmmm, mmmm,” Angel groaned as the bubble neared the end of its path flowing right into her arm.

I watched as the bubble introduced itself into her vein. She cringed a bit as the tears continued to flow from her eyes flowing down the side of her head. She stared hopelessly up at the ceiling seemingly waiting for death. Gazing down at her face only made me pay attention to the fact that she wasn’t even prettier than me. Her eyes were tiny and beady, her breasts look like kid sized oranges. Even her hair was dry and brittle. She had nothing on me and Vega should have known that. Now he could be in love with a corpse.

Angel’s body began to convulse out of control wiggling her body from left to right. I knew the bubble had quickly made its way through her vein and into her heart. The machines triggered a distress alarm but I unplugged it before it could go off too loudly. As her motions slowed and the look in her eyes grew lifeless, I felt proud of myself that I had listened that day in class when this very thing was discussed. After quickly plugging the machine back in, a smile crept across my lips and Angel exhaled her final breath prompting the machines to trigger its alarm once more.

“Oh my God, come quick. Help! Help! Code Blue,” I sprinted to the room door calling the doctors and nurses to the room.

About eight doctors and nurses total sped past me asking each other questions and giving orders in the same breath, striving hard to save the young lady’s life. As I stood on the outside of the door looking through the door window, I could tell that they were all genuinely trying their best to bring her back from the dead. But they were too late. She was already gone.

I turned heading back down the hall whistling the same tune I had whistled on the way in. No particular tune really. Just something that popped in my head every now and then to calm my nerve. Whenever I got my revenge, I hummed that same little ditty. I liked to think that my daddy might have sang it to me when I was a baby, before he left me to rot in hell with that bitch of a mother of mine. But it didn’t matter anymore. Everyone was getting what he or she deserved for hurting me. And, next up was my dear sweet king.

“I can’t wait for you to find out that you no longer have the one you wanted so badly, baby. See I’ve broken your heart just like you broke mine,” I recited to myself as if he were standing right in front of me. “Now, it’s your turn to die Vega.”

  In The Interim…

  Vega

8pm. Every five minutes for the last thirty minutes m
y phone had gone off like I had just hit the lottery and everybody knew it or something. After seeing that the first eleven times it was Violet, I just tossed that motherfucka on the end table on silent mode. She was quickly becoming a thorn in my ass. If it wasn’t Ox calling me to tell me that he had handled that business for me then I wasn’t answering shit. It was driving me crazy not being at the hospital with Angel but I had to get this money for Ox. Not to mention that I really needed to take a shower before heading back up there. I smelled like a llama’s ass.

Exiting the shower wrapping the towel around my waist, the doorbell rang. If it was Violet coming to plead her case some more I was calling the fucking police and there was no joking about it. I was sick of this bitch. Fucking with her was actually the worst mistake of my life. Apart of me thinks back to that day we first met and wishes I had actually ran her over with my car. The world just might have been a better place without her scheming conniving ass.

“Who is it?” I asked racing down the stairs. I slid on my gym shoes that sat by the front door just in case I needed to scrape this bitch one time. I would never hit a female but I’ll beat a bitch’s ass any day of the week.

  “It’s me.”

That’s all I heard. It was dark as dirt outside. Looking out the window, I saw the slender curves of a woman standing on my porch. No man had curves like that. It could’ve been a set up but at the same time I had no idea. My mind was racing a mile a minute trying to figure out who the fuck was on my doorstep. Moreover, it was too damn late at night to be playing these crack head ass games.

“What’s your name?” I asked peeking through the window once more.

“Open the door and you’ll find out,” the voice sounded sexy as hell but I couldn’t place it.

It could have been Violet playing a trick on me to weasel her way into my house. I knew just how to deal with her ass too if she didn’t leave. My eyes quickly bolted over to the dining room table wear the black duffle bag of Ox’s money sat that I had placed there earlier when I came home from the bank. I had to make sure I kept my eye on that shit at all times while she was here. Calmly I unlocked the door pulling it open, prepared for whoever was about to be waiting for me on the other side.

“Hey baby. You miss me?” She sauntered inside walking right past me as my mouth dropped completely open.

“I… You… What are you doing here?”

“Ah, ah, ah. My question first. Did you miss me motherfucka?” Her voice went from high to low pitched within seconds.

  “I… I…” I was stuck.

She walked around the living room admiring all of the leftover décor that wasn’t destroyed by the pig’s blood that Angel had bought. She brushed every single item seductively with her hips and thighs. There wasn’t much left except end tables and artifacts since I had to throw the couches, ottomans, and pictures in the trash. Bringing my attention from her thick waist up to her face again, I didn’t know what to think. I didn’t know what to do. My palms grew sweaty and my knees grew weak. If I were just a shade lighter, I would probably be pale in the face just by seeing her.

“That’s okay. I know you did.” She looked back at me and winked. “So I see life’s been treating you real good, huh daddy.”

“You, you shouldn’t be here… In my house…”

“Oh don’t worry. I won’t stay long. I just thought you and I had some unfinished business to attend to.” She placed both of her hands on her hips facing me.

“Are you here to extort money from me? Because if you are I should let you know that I don’t have much money at all.” I tightened the towel around my waist as her eyes followed.

“You don’t? On a doctor’s salary? Hmm, shame on you for squandering your money like that. Tsk Tsk.” She waved her index finger at me left to right before snatching the towel clean off of me, leaving me bearing the nude. “Hmm, I see not much has changed. Huh, Vega?”

“Ugh. What do you want? Why are you here?”

“I just want what’s owed to me… and my brother, Ox. I’m sure you two are very much acquainted. Well, I’m here to fucking collect.” Deidra snapped the towel my way flicking my thighs with it. I felt nothing, having been more stunned by the words she had just spilled.

  “Huh? Ox is your—“

“My brother. What? You thought you were the only one with close ties to the streets?” Deidra laughed sinisterly. “Now where’s the fucking money?”

“It’s, it’s over there in the bag on the table.”

Thoughts were jumbled in my mind like a collage. Nothing made sense anymore. I couldn’t understand why Ox would help me all these years if he knew who I was. Heading over to the dining room with her, I watched as she slowly unzipped the bag pulling it open feasting her eyes on the cold hard cash inside. Her smile was one that would haunt me for the rest of my days, as it was the eeriest shit in nature that I had ever seen. I was truly speechless.

Leaving her there, I raced to my cell sitting on one of the living room tables picking it up and searching through the phone for Ox’s number. I knew what type of dude he was. I knew what he was capable of. I had to apologize to him first before I apologized to her. Women were easily handled. But I could only imagine what kind of thoughts must have been rotating through his head all of these years. Staring down at the numerous missed calls on the log, I noticed that the hospital was among many of them.

“What the hell are you doing?” Deidra asked darting up to me.

“I’m calling your brother. I just need to talk to him. I need to explain—“

“You should know better than that. It’s too late for that, sweetie.” Her tone was calm and easy.

“Deidra, I never meant for any of that shit to happen that night. You’ve gotta believe me, okay? I was drunk and shit just got way out of control.”

“Out of control, Vega? Out of control? I don’t call passing me around willingly to all of your little fuck boys out of control. I loved you. I never would’ve hurt you. And that was the thanks that I got for fucking you good, playing wifey and never telling your real wife that we were together way before you even married that bitch? You threw me to the curb like trash on your wedding night. You passed me around like leftovers.” Tears began to water Deidra’s eyes. “How could you do that to me, to us?”

“Deidra, I…I…” again I was stuck. “I was drunk.”

“OH! He was drunk he says. He was drunk. He was drunk. He was drunk. And, that is supposed to make it all better now. I had to play the bachelor’s whore because he was drunk.”

“Look, I paid you Deidra. Ox made that shit go away and, and I paid you so we’re even. I don’t owe you shit okay?” I tried to man up even though I was more frightened than a stripper on her first day of work.

“That you did,” she rounded me sucking her teeth. “And you funded the greatest shit my brother and I could have ever dreamt of. But you’ll never know that.”

“We’re done here, Deidra. I’m done paying my debt to you and your brother. Just take the money and go.” I pointed over to the door mumbling. “I don’t know how you found me anyway but this stops here.”

“Oh how I found you, you ask?” She placed her hand on her chin. “Hmm, well let’s see. First off it did take us a while to find you Mr. Victor Smart, since you changed your name to Vega and moved to the luxurious part of town. It also doesn’t help that the same person who handles your dirty work has a drug problem that he was willing to give just about anything for. Uh, how is Adrial by the way?”

  “Dead. Adrial’s dead.”

Inside I was a shitting bricks. I changed my identity and moved away hoping to get a fresh start, a new lease on life but none of that made any difference because she was hunting me. I was ashamed of what I had done. But she wasn’t trying to hear any of my apologies or nothing. I couldn’t keep apologizing for something that happened so many years ago at my bachelor party. It was something that I regretted to this but there was nothing that I could do to change it.

You and your coward ass friends raped me, and beat me, and left me for dead in that shit hole of a hotel room like I wasn’t shit. You left me for dead. Dead!” Deidra’s murderous scream sent chills throughout my body. It was either that or the draft drawing up my ass from standing there naked as the day I was born. “If it weren’t for your sorry ass fearing someone would link the shit back to you and you sending your bitch ass friend to my brother to take care of it, I would be dead right now.”

  “Deidra—“

“He wanted to find you, Ox did. He wanted to make you suffer until your last breath. But I convinced him not to.”

  “Oh thank God.”

“Naw, see ‘cause I wanted to get you myself.” Deidra circled my body brushing her ass against my dick.

  “Awe, shit.”

“Yeah. And also my brother had a few plans of his own like snatching up your beautiful sister in law while I set up your wife for murder,” she grinned. “See fucking up your life was all in the plan. You needed to know that you weren’t untouchable.”

  “What the…?”

Deidra’s hand reached around her back removing a .380 from out of her tight yoga pants bringing it down to her side casually. While doing so, she explained that my brother was paid $30,000 to have sex with Angel and fuck my marriage up. Once he got tired of doing it behind my back and tried to break it off, Deidra said that she sent Angel a little note on her car letting her know everything about my brother that she didn’t know. The pregnant baby momma he had and everything.

The day Angel killed him, Deidra made sure that she found one of Ox’s goons who had been tailing Angel in every move she made. She made sure he was the one to sell her the gun to kill Jay. Deidra said he even egged her on like don’t bitch up, if the nigga really deserves it, blast his ass. My eyes widened as she laughed explaining that the same push Angel was given, Deidra had given Violet when she needed that extra push to fuck Adrial’s life up as well. I didn’t know that she knew her. But how could I? I never took the time out to really get to know Violet at all.
