The judge banged his gavel then got up from his seat heading out the courtroom. Violet stood there celebrating and cheesing from ear to ear as she shook the hands of the two men that had gotten her off. She had been fighting the case from inside the Cook County Jail system for the last six months and today she was finally a free woman. The lawyer knew the evidence against her wouldn’t hold up in court. It was all too circumstantial so the charges were dropped. Nothing about it could stick to her and the prosecutors didn’t have enough substantial evidence to make the charges stick. Today was the beginning of her brand new life.
Having met the Poland while he was seeing another one of his pro bono clients, she knew he was the one for the job. She used her tantalizing body and powers of persuasion to pay for the lawyers. One in particular proved worthy enough to seduce into her selfish submission. He worshipped the ground she walked on even though he had been married for seventeen years. She found solace in knowing that she knew about his wife from jump and knew what to expect.
Violet had been fucking him during their sessions together about the case. He was all too happy to except it as a payment from her as long as it meant they would be together once the trial was over. Violet promised him the world and more once she got the okay from the insurance company that they would be releasing the money to her. All she had to do was beat the case and she could collect the check a week from the date.
“Thanks so much baby. I’ll see you tonight for dinner okay?” She smiled at him as she caressed his cheek tenderly.
“I can’t wait. I’m buying the finest bottle of wine money can buy for us baby girl. Nothing but the best for my baby,” Poland, her young virile public defender said flipping his hands through his short haircut.
His pale white skin lit up bright red every time he was near her. Violet played upon that batting her eyes and puckering up her lips at him every chance she got. He adored her and all she wanted to do was play him so she could have her way with his checkbook and his law expertise.
“See ya later. I’ll call you once I’m done taking care of some unfinished business,” she told him, giving him a kiss on the cheek before she darted out the main courtroom doors.
The warm sun graced her skin openly for the first time in six months as a free woman. She never thought that this day would come. Yet she was more than grateful that life had given her another chance to live and be prosperous at it. Her heels clicked against the courthouse stairs as she straightened the jacket to her navy blue pencil skirt suit. She tossed her hair behind her back feeling herself while thinking about the one and only stop she had only thought about going to once she got out, Vega’s gravesite.
“Excuse me ma’am. Do you have some spare change?” A homeless person approached her looking very scurvy, dirty, and homely.
“Ewe, no. Get the fuck away from me.” Violet waved the guy off as she pimped on by. “Get the fuck outta here.”
“You don’t have to be so mean lady. I’m just out here trying to get it. I’m just a man who’s down on his luck. One day it could happen to you. Stay humble young one. Don’t think for one second that it couldn’t happen to you,” the homeless man called after as she clicked her heels away from him.
“Yeah, whatever motherfucka,” she scoffed at him continuing on her journey.
“Aye.”
“What?” Violet whipped her head up pissed as hell.
“Know that revenge and karma are the same bipolar bitch, bitch.”
One single shot to the side of her dome and Violet’s body hit the ground like an old bag of bones. Her blood wasted rapidly all over the courthouse steps like spilled paint. The only sound that could be heard was the gasps of fleeing bystanders and the fierce hawk of the cool city wind. Her eyes were bucked open and she fell in an awkward twisted up position where her body was contorted in an array of directions. One thing was clear, Violet was so self absorbed in her own thoughts that she never saw it coming.
The footsteps of the shooter were casual and calm as they headed off into the distance. Spectators gradually gathered at the scene to help Violet and call the ambulance for her but there were no signs of life left in those eyes. The only story they told was one of a lonely death and when the onlookers checked for a pulse, there was none. The police decided that the shooter couldn’t have gotten far so they canvassed the area to try and catch who may have done this. They spread out all over trying to catch the killer before they were able to escape and possibly get away with the murder.
“Did anyone see who did this? Anyone?” The cops questioned.
But no one knew a thing and even if they did they for damn sure weren’t telling. Many races, creeds, and colors knew the code of the streets. Snitches get stitches or lain in ditches. The killer was already in the car, however. Removing the black skullcap from overhead, the car door slammed. The car revved up causing the back alley to fill up with exhaust. Tossing the gun in the glove compartment along with the black gloves that were peeled off each hand, the seat belt was securely placed over a protruding belly.
“So how do you feel?”
“I don’t feel shit. I’m good,” Mika replied rubbing her baby bump grinning from ear to ear at what she had jus done. “It’s done and that’s that. So, where are we off to now?”
“How about Italy?” Deidra asked eagerly from the backseat. “I’ve got some much needed retail therapy and beach chilling that I’ve been waiting years to catch up on.”
Ox smiled shuffling his attention back towards Mika who shrugged her shoulders coolly at Deidra’s response. They all laughed as Ox gassed up the all black Range Rover. Using his fist he playfully nipped Mika’s chin with it then brought his hand down resting on her belly. She covered his hand with hers rubbing it calmingly as he pulled off deliberately down the alley. They were all too proud of the bundle of joy awaiting them inside. It was a means to a beginning.
“Hmm, we could sure use the vacation too,” Ox beamed as they neared the end of the alley. “Shit. Italy it is then.”
“I can’t wait to spread Angel and Keylan’s ashes in the Tyrrhenian Sea once we get there.” Mika turned gazing at the urns strapped tightly in the seat belt next to Deidra. “I think they would like that.”
A cop stood on the corner and met eyes with all of them. The sun shone brightly into the truck revealing all three of their faces. There was no denying who they were. The three of them sat there for a few seconds just staring at the police officer. If they wanted to, they could have deadened the cop’s life right then and there. The cop’s gaze never faltered from it’s tightly knit eyeing of them. The stoplight on the corner a few feet away from them turned green in the flick of a millisecond.
Ox nodded his head up to the cop as the cop returned the gesture. Ox pulled off knowing that none of them would ever have to worry about shit else ever again. He had the entire city on lock. Cops, judges, politicians, all were on his payroll and benefiting from his contribution to the city. He was stimulating the economy one sale at a time and damn proud of it too. His money was long and only increasing by the day so they would never have to worry about that. His life was tight and now he had the family he desired to complete his dynasty.
They all sat back in their seats comfortably, without worry. They knew they were set for life and that the city was theirs for the taking. Nothing was off limits. And their bond would solidify their family for years to come. Nothing would ever trump blood or family. That mantra was something that was missing in many people’s households these days.
Ox and Mika was a different breed of love though. They were determined to instill in their family the old school ways of sticking together, never turning your back on your loved ones no matter what. What they shared was so powerful, so deep that it made creeps envious yet them inseparable. They were the modern day Bonnie and Clyde, Cleopatra and Mark Anthony, Romeo and Juliet. Wherever her Clyde went Bonnie was down for the ride. Nothing would ever break their incredibly tight bond and they would go to the ends of the
earth and back to defend it.
