In total there were 7 people living in the container, 6 adult men and 1 young boy. They were heavily armed and they spoke in French. They could speak in English as well, but they opted for French because they knew less people would understand them. She only knew one of their names and it was an accident that she had even learned it. One of the other men had called him by his name and was immediately gunned down by the rest of the crew; secrecy was of the utmost importance to these men. The name of the man was Touma, and he appeared to be the leader of the faction. Touma had dark, shoulder length hair and brown eyes. He appeared to be Lebanese. He had a short stature and a fairly muscular physique. His nose was large and it appeared to have been broken in the past because it leaned slightly to one side. He had an evil look in his eyes at all times, a true psychopath. The way he spoke seemed to be sincere and persuading, even though Lynn couldn’t understand what he said most of the time, she knew he was charming in an evil way. He wore a black and white camouflage jump suit and a gas mask at all times.

Touma had ordered his men to paint the entire exterior of the container white, so that it blended in with the snowy background. The container was nearly invisible and Lynn knew that the odds of Chad finding her were very slim. She also knew that even if he did find her, Touma and his men would gun him down immediately. They rode on snowmobiles that were very fast, very loud and seemed to be unaffected by the ash. Lynn had overheard Touma talking to one of his men about the snowmobiles and he had mentioned some kind of special filter that blocked the ash from entering the engines air filter intake. This was above her head, but she understood the basics of the technology.

Lynn began reminiscing; everything had seemed to be going well in the old container. She was patiently waiting for Chad to return with the supplies and she was playing games with Bryce and Tammy when she heard the roar of snowmobile engines. Moments after initially hearing the engines, the entire container was surrounded by Touma and his goons. Some of the people in the container had tried to shut the door and lock them out, but it was too late. Automatic weapons began firing and blood was spewing all over the place. Lynn hugged her two children and got as far into the corner of the container as she could, waiting for the gunfire to stop. When the shots stopped she looked up and saw Touma’s face for the first time as he gave her an evil grin.

“How are you ma’am?” Touma whispered

“Who the fuck are you?” She asked in return.

“I’m your new lover, your new best friend. I’m going to take care of you, feed you, give you water and bathe you. I’m going to make sure nothing bad ever happens to you. But if you ever cross me or disobey me, you’ll end up like these people,” he said as he pointed out the dead bodies scattered around the container.

“Just leave me here, please. Just let me stay here with my kids, we haven’t done anything to you.” Lynn said trying to reason with him.

“Yea that’s the problem, you haven’t done anything to me yet. But don’t worry you will tonight, we get to sleep together from now on.”

  Lyn cringed.

Touma had then ordered his men to load the dead bodies onto a trailer that they would drag to the other container with their snowmobiles. He wanted there to be minimal evidence of the massacre. He forced Lynn and her kids to sit in that same trailer, surrounded by bodies. The ride was obviously traumatic and very cold. The snowmobiles traveled so fast that it increased the wind chill by an extreme amount. The wind seemed to slice through them like sharp knives. At some point during the ride to the new container, Tammy stopped breathing. Lynn and Bryce were hysterical, but there was absolutely nothing they could do.

Once they arrived at the new container, Touma ordered them to hop out of the trailer. They did as they were told and slowly walked towards the container. A young boy, Lynn guessed to be Touma’s son, started yelling at Bryce in French. Bryce was very confused and stood completely still, staring at the boy intently. When the boy drew a handgun Bryce began to cry and he ran into Lynn’s arms. Touma told Lynn to let Bryce run away so the boy could pretend to shoot at him.

“Your boy needs to toughen up, tell him to run away or I’ll kill you both where you stand,” Touma said loudly.

Lynn told Bryce to run and he did as he was told. When he got about thirty feet away from them, Touma’s son began shooting at the ground around Bryce’s feet. Touma was laughing and Lynn was sobbing uncontrollably. Eventually, Bryce got hit with a bullet and dropped face first into the snow.

“The boy is just a beginner, he needs some more target practice. I assure you he didn’t mean to hit your son,” Touma told Lynn.

Lynn screamed and ran to Bryce as fast as she could. The bullet had hit him directly in the back of the head, killing him instantly. Lynn collapsed into the snow, paralyzed with agony. She literally couldn’t move and she had to be carried by Toumas men into the container. That night she was raped by Touma, she didn’t scream, she couldn’t, she had absolutely nothing left. Not a single tear was shed, she was numb to the world and she couldn’t feel anything. The only thing that kept her going was the thought of ripping Touma’s throat out. She knew this was unlikely, but her life goal was now to kill this monster and she vowed to stop at nothing until the job was complete.

  Chapter 7

Chad and Todd were now back at the rock and completely out of breath. They had pretty much given up hope, but they knew that if they didn’t find the container soon, they would die. Their food and water supply was rapidly dwindling and they needed to warm their bodies up with a nice heater. Chad took control of the situation and began to speak,

“Okay, since we’re pretty far from town I think we should dig another snow cave and sleep in that. Once morning comes we’ll start the search again”

“Alright man, but what if we can’t find the container? Do we have a plan b?

“There is no plan b, we either find that container or we’re fucked”

  “Man it could be anywhere!”

“Yes it could, but now is not the time for bitching! We need to man up because it’s do or die. Now let’s start digging this cave so we can rest up for tomorrow.”

They dug out a snow cave in about half the amount of time it took them to do it the previous time. Once they were finished they made a small fire and discussed their plan of action for the next day. They decided that they would stick together and jog as much as possible until they found the container, regardless of how long it took. When they finally drifted off to sleep Chad awoke a few hours later in a cold sweat. He knew something was wrong, he could feel it deep within his bones. He quietly got up, grabbed a handgun and headed out into the frigid night air. He was so focused and determined that he wasn’t cold at all. He was sick of the ash in the sky and the constant gloom that had overtaken the earth, but this wasn’t any time for moping, he knew he had to find his family. He knew Todd would panic when he woke up, but if everything went according to plan, he would find his family and the families of Todd and Anthony and bring them back to the snow cave before the sun rose. This was wishful thinking but a positive attitude was Chad’s only ally at this point.

He roamed around for hours but found nothing. The only light source he had was a small, yet powerful flashlight. He was slowly beginning to lose hope, but he knew that if he gave up he was giving up on his wife and kids. He walked over countless snowdrifts and he could feel the wind picking up speed, a blizzard was imminent, but he didn’t care. The snow came with an unparalleled force; it was like nothing he had ever seen. He felt like he was in the middle of an avalanche and he worried that Todd may be buried alive inside the snow cave. As he pressed on, his body became incredibly numb. He shone his flashlight around wildly until he noticed a strange glimmer in the distance. He headed toward the glimmer and kept his light locked onto the object.

As he got closer he could see the shape of a large container starting to emerge. His heart began beating rapidly and he increased his pace. He was almost at the entrance when he heard a sharp noise sli
ce through the air. He instantly felt an intense pain in his left shoulder. Then came another sharp noise and another intense pain in his left leg. He dropped to the ground, realizing that had just been shot. He heard people yelling in French and then a man walked up and knelt down in front of him. It was Touma. He stared at Chad intently, examining him with his soulless eyes, until he finally spoke,

“Hello, how are you man? I see my sniper has done his job well. You must be looking for a lady, yes?”

  “Fuck you”

“Easy man, take it easy. I’m just trying to protect my people, now listen to what I am telling you. You have been shot with two small bullets, each of them containing a non-lethal toxin. Once this toxin kicks in you will be knocked unconscious for about five or six hours depending on your weight. Where you wake up will be dependent upon these next few moments”

“What the hell do you want from me? Just give me my wife back”

“You have two options brother; you can either vow to join me and my crew and you will wake up inside of our warm container with your wife beside you, or you can go against me in which case you will wake up 20 miles from here, buried in a snow bank”

“I’ll do anything… just… just give me my wife”

Chad barely got the words out before going unconscious.

  Chapter 8

Chad awoke slowly; he didn’t have the energy to move anywhere. The toxin was still coursing through his veins and he knew that he had to take it easy. The wound he got from the wolf bite was excruciatingly painful and it became more infected with each day that passed. His collarbone was not going to heal anytime soon and he simply ad to accept this fact. He opened his eyes and he saw Lynn sitting beside him, he burst into tears of joy and hugged her tightly. They wept together for a few moments before they began talking.

“I’ve missed you so much Lynn, I’m sorry it took so long for me to find you, where are the others?”

“Chad they took everything from us, they’ve killed everyone and they fucking raped me”

  “WHAT?”

“I’m the only one left, they killed everyone and they ruined me!”

Lynn was now hysterical, she wept and wept in Chad’s arms. He joined her and began to cry once again. They cried for what seemed like four hours and then Lynn spoke,

“The only thing I care about now, the only thing I want to do, is kill every one of these bastards”

“Lynn, these motherfuckers are all going to die, mark my words.”

“Are Todd and Anthony dead?” Lynn asked as she sobbed.

“Anthony is dead, Todd is alive but I’m not sure if he will be in the morning”

  “Well where is he?”

“He’s in a snow cave we built, I couldn’t even tell you where exactly”

“Shut the fuck up back there!” Touma yelled angrily.

Lynn and Chad kept quiet so as to not piss Touma off anymore. They needed to bide their time before they struck, and the only way they could get close to Touma was to earn his trust.

Chad and Lynn did not sleep at all that night. They stayed up whispering to each other, catching up, kissing and plotting. They devised a plan to earn Touma’s trust and it involved telling him about how their old container was now full of fresh supplies, which Chad had transferred from his RV.

“How are the both of you?” Touma asked in a strangely sincere tone.

“We’re both fine friend. We just want to form a mutually beneficial relationship with you, no hard feelings at all”

“You’re damn right there’s no hard feeling” Touma’s demeanor changed instantaneously, a true psychopath.

“I know, I know. I want to help you bring more supplies to your container”

“How do you intend on doing that?”

“Well you see when you were raiding my old container, I was out with my friends taking supplies from my broken down RV. I transferred the supplies to the container and they are still in there waiting for someone to come along and take them”

“Are you fucking with me? Don’t fuck with me friend”

“No I’m not, the container has plenty of good supplies, that I can assure you”

“Well then jump on the snowmobile, we’re heading back there right now”

With that, Touma ordered his men to pack up their things and start up their snowmobiles. Lynn was ordered to stay behind in the container, Touma knew that she wouldn’t go anywhere as she would never see Chad again and she would almost certainly die if she tried to survive outside alone. Within twenty minutes Chad was sitting on the back of Touma’s snowmobile and they were flying across the snowy plains. All Chad could hear was the loud roar of the snowmobile engine, but this noise was soon tuned out by the imaginary laugh of his children. His mind was drifting and he tried to remember the last thing he had said to his kids. He was surprised at how well he was taking their deaths, but he knew that it hadn’t truly sunk in yet. The current apocalyptic circumstance of the world had almost completely numbed his mind. He was more confused than he had ever been. Every day was a struggle, a battle with his own mortality. At one point in his life he had believed in God, but this belief was disintegrating with each day that he continued to struggle. He was praying every night, but his prayers seemed to be out of necessity, not true belief.

He couldn’t understand how somebody could be as evil as Touma. All he could think about was how he was going to murder that little fucker. Touma had raped his wife and caused the deaths of his children, and for this he would pay with his life. Chad had nearly given up hope on ever seeing Todd again and this greatly saddened him, but at this point he could only focus on one thing at a time. His only concern was the well being of his wife, she was all he had left. When they finally arrived at the old container, Chad helped Touma and his men load up the supplies onto the snowmobiles. In no time at all they had finished and were headed back to their container. Touma had a radio on his snowmobile and Chad listened intently to the updates,

“The estimate of global deaths is now approaching the one billion mark. With the volcanic winter having a major impact on tropical regions, this seems to be the major cause of death. People in places like Jamaica and Brazil are not prepared for freezing temperatures, but snow has become a worldwide phenomenon and it’s having a massive impact around the globe. Tsunamis have killed many people but the major cause of death seems to remain the freezing cold worldwide temperatures. With no sunlight the world has become a dark, cold place where only the strong can survive.”

The snowmobile was roaring once again, while loading supplies onto the snowmobiles, Chad grabbed one of his old knives; he clenched it tightly in his hands as he stared at the back of Touma’s head. Touma was wearing a helmet so killing him there was out of the question, Chad would have patiently wait until the time was right.

  Chapter 9

When they arrived back at the container Chad began helping them unload the supplies. Lynn was gone and Chad was immediately in tears.

“I guess she doesn’t give a fuck about you, eh friend?” Touma said trying to agitate Chad.

“You shut your mouth you French fuck!”

“Hey now friend, calm yourself down. You don’t want to do anything stupid or else the chances of you seeing your wife again will quickly drop from low, to non-existent”

“I don’t give a shit anymore, we’re all dead regardless”

“Easy now, I’m just as sad as you are friend. We can grieve together, I know how much fun your wife was to fuck and I will miss that too”

With that, Chad lunged at Touma and grabbed him by the throat. Touma dropped to the ground and wrapped his legs around Chad’s hips. He ripped Chads hands off of his throat and held them close to his chest. He swung his right leg over Chad’s back and his left leg under his knee. In an instant, Touma had the better of Chad and he was on top of him punching him in the face. Touma wouldn’t stop; he just kept punching and punching, slamming his knuckles deeper and deeper into Chad’s face. Chad was trying to
cover his face, but it was no use. He was helpless and utterly infuriated, he wanted to kill Touma with his bare hands, but this short little man was proving to be a lot stronger than he looked. Touma’s men were laughing hysterically and eventually Touma stopped swinging.

“You are nothing, you hear me? You need to learn to calm yourself down or you will be dead quicker than you can comprehend. You understand me? The only reason I don’t end you right here and now is because I figure you will be a good slave to have around the container. Chain him to the back wall boys.”

Touma’s command sent his men running into action. They dragged Chad into the container and chained him to a support beam on the back wall. They handcuffed him and wrapped a thick stainless steel chain through the cuffs and onto the support beam. The lock they used was the most heavy-duty lock Chad had ever seen. A giant black lock covered in thick rubber with only a single key to unlock it. That night they gave Chad a half can of tuna for dinner and a small sip of water. His collarbone was completely destroyed during the scuffle with Touma. The pain was overwhelming but he had to be strong.
