Kassandra felt the sharp sting of his words. Now that she’d marked him as hers, her dragon would never let her touch another man, and from what she understood, the animal in him would never accept another female the moment he had imprinted on her. As hard of a time as she gave Chase for tricking his mate, she had a feeling karma was having fun paying her back. “It matters to me,” she whispered.

“You’ve lied to me, drugged me, broken into my home, and you’re fighting in a war I want no part of,” Damien said between gritted teeth. He took a step closer, so they were chest to chest. “And looking at you here in the moonlight, all I can think of is how good you felt when I finally sank my hard cock into your very willing body.”

  CHAPTER 20

Damien watched Kassandra’s eyes widen in surprise. He slid his hand into her hair, pulling her body close as he kissed her roughly. He felt her stiffen when his tongue thrust deep into her mouth and he growled low as he pulled her hair, angling her head for better access. His tongue continued to tease her until he finally felt her soften and her hands slide up his chest around his neck.

The wolf in him needed her to understand that she was his mate. She belonged to them. He released her hair and stepped back. The wolf riding him to mark her as his, right now under the moon and the stars, the sky above them and the grass below them. “Take off your boots,” he commanded in a low growl.

There was a flash of defiance in her eyes before she leaned back into a nearby tree, lifting her left leg. He watched as she raised an eyebrow, a challenging smirk on her lips.

Walking toward her, his hand came up and slid the boot off her foot waiting for her to offer the other foot. When she did he removed that boot as well tossing them both to the side. She would never be the girl that took orders from him easily, but as he took that last step that put her right in front of him and cupped her face, he knew docile would never make him as happy as Kassandra pushing him would.

“Did you know you smell of cherries and vanilla? When your scent first hit me, all I could think about was how good you were going to taste.”

Kassandra opened her mouth to say something, but he silenced her by standing up and kissing her deeply, thrusting his tongue deep in her mouth. Damien did not want to hear what she had to say. Instead his hands found the top of her pants and easily undid the top button of them, then slid down the zipper. Letting his claws lengthen slightly, he reached up to her collar and ripped her blouse in half. Hooking the front of her lacy bra, he pushed the bra off her shoulders, careful not to break the kiss.

Her tongue danced with his, teasing him to follow hers. When he thrust his tongue into her mouth, she playfully sucked on it. He could feel Kassandra’s nimble fingers undo the buttons on his shirt and he helped her by shrugging his shoulders as she pushed it off.

Without the barriers of their shirts, he pulled Kassandra tight against him, moaning at the sensation of her skin against his. Damien broke the kiss and began to nibble his way down the column of her neck. He felt her shudder and when she tilted her head giving him better access to her neck he had to stop himself from sinking his teeth into her flesh and marking her as his.

He released his hold and got down on one knee. His hand slid around her hips cupping her nicely rounded ass and kissed the flat of her stomach just above the top of her low-rise jeans. Kassandra’s muscles quivered under his touch and he gently nipped at her belly button. He heard her sharp inhale and felt her hands go to his hair, holding him.

“The smell of your desire calls to me like nothing else ever has,” Damien said as he hooked his fingers into the side of her pants. Feeling her lacy thong underneath, he slid them down her legs. Leaving Kassandra standing before him in a lacy red thong.

The sound of her needy whimper caused him to look up at her, meeting her eyes as he leaned forward and teasingly ran his tongue over the lace that did nothing to cover her. Her eyes darkened more and he heard her whisper his name as the hand on his hair gripped him tighter. He chuckled and his hand slid up the smooth curve of her thighs going over her hips. Using his fingers, he broke the strings on her hips that held the two pieces together.

He groaned when Kassandra shifted her legs and the material fell. Damien ran his tongue between her folds and moaned at how wet and ready she was for him. His throbbing cock pressed against the zipper of his jeans, begging to be let out.

Kassandra’s fingers tightened in his hair and he smiled as he blew against her core. Fate might have paired him with a female he had nothing in common with, but she responded to his touch and he wanted to spend eternity learning every delectable inch of her body.

His hands parted her open a little more, and his tongue found the hard, sensitive nub poking from between her folds. He sucked it into his mouth, flicking it rhythmically with his tongue. Each time she sucked in her breath, his chest puffed up in male pride.

Her body shook, and he gave her one last lick, savoring her taste. He slowly stood, keeping his hand between her thighs and teasing her entrance with his finger. Kassandra’s hips ground against his hand as she unzipped his jeans.

The look of pure desire on her face was enough to stroke any man’s ego and he wondered what it would look like if she loved him. Damien shook away that wayward thought knowing that love did not always accompany mating. Kassandra’s hand wrapped around his cock the moment it sprung from his jeans.

“Damien, please…” she whispered as her fingers stroked his cock in time with his teasing fingers on her core.

He twirled his tongue around her nipple and stilled the finger inside her. “Please what, my Kitty Kat? Tell me what you want?”

“Take me.” She commanded her hips bumping against his hand.

Damien growled, and pulled his fingers from her core before lowering her to the ground. He claimed her mouth with a hard kiss. Kassandra broke the kiss as she pushed his pants below his hips while nipping at the base of his neck, teasing her bite mark. Distracted by shudders of pleasure, Damien barely felt her hand on his cock trying to guide him in. He grabbed her hands and held them up above her head. “I don’t think so, my love; this time I’ll make you mine.”

“Prove it,” she whispered, her lips curving into a smile.

With that he felt her yank her hands free rolling to her stomach to crawl away from him. When her ass brushed against his cock he lost what little control he had left. As he reached out and grabbed a hold of her ankle with one hand, the other was used to push his pants down past his knees. Crawling up her body he grabbed her hips with both hands and forced her to her knees.

Kassandra’s blond hair glowed in the moonlight and she pushed her ass back as he thrust forward burying his hard cock deep into her core. Her head came back as she gasped. He held her hips still as he pulled out almost completely before thrusting back into her. When she tried to push back against him he slapped her ass and he bit his lip to keep from shouting his pleasure as her core tightened around him.

Unable to hold back he picked up the pace. His hand slid around her hip and reached down to find her hard clit and circled it with his finger. His other hand slid down her back reaching into her hair grabbing it and pulling it back, forcing her body to come up with her back against his chest as he continued to pound into her.

His hand slid from her hair to hold her to him by her neck as he began to kiss it. When she started to shake in his arms, she tilted her head offering more of her neck to him. His teeth lengthened and with a growl he sank them into her, marking her forever as his. Her cry of pleasure echoed his own as her core tightened, hard spasms shuddered around his cock sending him over the edge as he filled her core with his seed.

  CHAPTER 21

Kassandra screamed as Damien sank his teeth into her. Her dragon’s cries of pleasure echoed in her head as her body shook. His hold on her was the only thing holding her from collapsing as she slowly came down.

Damien removed his teeth and slowly licked the mark, causing small shivers to run down her spine. “Let’s go
inside,” he whispered.

He carried her up the stairs, and she smiled to herself when he leaned over to pull the blankets down. He carefully laid her on the bed.

“Here, let’s get my Kitty-Kat cleaned up,” he said. He went to the bathroom and emerged with a rag.

He was gentle with her and she could feel her cheeks heating up as he ran the rag up her thigh to her core. “Thank you,” she whispered.

Damien grunted in reply. After thoroughly cleaning her, he walked back into the bathroom and turned on the water. After he crawled into bed, she had to bite her lip to keep from letting out a happy sigh when he pulled her back against him.

As they lay in silence, Kassandra could feel Damien’s conflicting emotions between man and wolf. Violca, Chase’s mate, had explained this to her, mentioning how she was able to feel both Chase and his dragon through their connection. Yet lying here now, Kassandra felt unsettled. Fate had chosen them to be together forever, so why wasn’t there peace?

The ability to feel his emotions more than sense them threw her off and she found that she did not like him feeling conflicted. There was the natural thought that once they found their mates there would be peace, after all Fate had chosen them to be together forever so what could possibly go wrong…

A small sigh slipped from her lips when Damien began to stroke her arms. His breath on the back of her neck sent a small shiver down her spine. The only feeling that the man and the wolf seemed to agree was that they wanted her. Even if she couldn’t feel it through their connection, the semi-hard cock pressing against her ass left little doubt.

Kassandra turned in Damien’s arms and stroked her thumb against his cheek. She wanted to say something, to apologize, but no words came out.

Damien sighed and kissed the palm of her hand before rolling to his back and taking her with him. Kassandra rested her head on his chest and tucked one leg between his. There was so much to think about, but the steady sound of his heartbeat lulled her to sleep.

Kassandra woke up alone, to a silent house surrounded by his scent. The bed next to her was cool to the touch and she wondered where Damien had gone so early. As she stretched, she debated going back to sleep, but decided it would be best to take a long, hot shower. Unable to hold back her curiosity, she studied her bite mark in the bathroom mirror. It was barely visible to the naked eye, but would be obvious to others in the supernatural community, unless her neck was covered.

Kassandra prided herself on being highly independent, but there was a secret part of her that reveled in being marked. She hadn’t realized something in her life was missing until her friend Chase had found his mate. She was happy for him, but deep down she felt envious when she was around the two of them.

As the hot water kneaded her muscles, leaving tiny pearls around her bite mark, Kassandra had to admit she didn’t know what was going to happen. Damien seemed dead set on avoiding conflict, but Kassandra fought for her people and wouldn’t stop until her people were at peace. Where would that leave her and Damien? Would he be okay staying home while she went out and did her job? Or would he attempt to talk her out of it?

Fate might have destined them to be together, but that didn’t mean their lives would be compatible. She shook her head deciding that those answers would come later. Right now she would enjoy the hot water massaging her muscles, make them breakfast in case Damien came home, then see what exactly was in that package Dmitri gave him last night.

  ***

Damien had spent the night watching Kassandra sleep in his arms. His hand sliding through her hair, he spent the evening trying to figure out what he was going to do now. He doubted he could talk her into staying with him at his house, help him run the bar and leave the fighting to everyone else. She was too stubborn and he could practically hear his sister Hope in his head telling him he can’t run forever.

Unable to sleep, he looked at the clock and thought the sun should be up in an hour or so. Damien carefully slid from the bed, careful not to wake Kassandra. Slipping on a pair of jeans and a shirt, he decided a ride might help clear his head.

Damien tucked Kassandra in before heading downstairs. As he finished getting ready, he debated about leaving her a note but dismissed the idea, having every intention of being back before she awoke.

No real plan to go anywhere in particular, he was surprised when he ended up in front of Robert’s house. Sitting on his bike, he thought about knocking on the door when his friend opened it in a pair of pajama pants and disheveled hair. Damien wasn’t sure if the frown on his face was from seeing him or being woken up at this hour. Robert motioned for him to join him inside.

Damien got off his bike and followed his friend into the house. All the lights were off, but a lamp in the living room. He looked at his friend, then he noticed a blanket and pillow on the couch. Raising an eyebrow, his friend blushed as he rubbed the back of his neck, “Alyssa is either up twenty times a night to use the bathroom or the baby pushes on her ribs and she snores. This is the only way for me to get any sleep.”

Chuckling at his friend’s dilemma, he sat on the chair as his old friend moved the pillow and blanket over. “She doesn’t mind you sleeping out here?”

“Well the first time I suggested it, she cried and thought I was tired of her, but after she got some sleep she decided it would be okay as long as I waited until she fell asleep before I came out here.”

Robert was silent, studying him. Damien knew his friend could probably smell Kassandra’s dragon on him and even he was aware that he smelled of sex. He wasn’t surprised when his friend finally asked, “I’m guessing you aren’t here to discuss where I sleep. Did you meet up with Dmitri tonight and fight with that dragon bastard?”

“I met with him, but it didn’t get so far as a fight. Dmitri gave me a package and said he was going to use it to bribe me to join him, but thanks to Kassandra he said I had already picked sides.” Damien said, watching his friends face as he processed what he’d said.

“What do you mean because of Kassandra?” Robert asked, his dark brown eyes narrowing on him.

“It turns out that the lovely Kat is actually a dragon who was sent to spy on me, by the dragon king who can’t control his younger brother.” Damien could hear the bitterness in his own voice. Disgusted with himself for being mesmerized by finding his mate when he knew exactly how much trouble they could be. How could he forget how much Hope’s mate cost them both? The Fates had a fucked up sense of humor.

Robert sat in silence, staring at him for a moment before he threw back his head and started laughing. Damien growled low in his throat, not appreciating his friend’s amusement over his current situation.

The sound of a door opening down the hall caused Robert to quit laughing and look apologetically down the hall, “Oh babe, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you.”

Damien turned his head to see Alyssa waddling toward them wearing a long robe. When she got close to Robert, he opened his arms and pulled her onto his lap. “Good morning Damien. Should I ask what you did that had Robert laughing so hard?”

A small smile played on her lips as she sat comfortably in her husband’s embrace. “I’m sorry Alyssa. I didn’t realize that my news would make your husband so insensitive that he would wake up his sleeping wife.”

She laughed softly shaking her head, “Wow, whatever you did, you better go apologize. I liked Kassandra.”

“How did you know…” Damien’s voice trailed off when she simply raised her eyebrow, a knowing smirk on her face. “Just so you know I didn’t do anything. Turns out Kassandra is a dragon and was sent here to see what I was doing with Dmitri.”

Alyssa snorted and he noticed Robert smiling as he rubbed his wife’s lower back. “Should I ask why the two of you think this is so funny.”

“Apparently the Fates have decided you need to quit hiding and brought you a mate that would force you to step out of the shadows and fight. No more hiding behind fake indifference and bitterness and sleeping with a bunch
of bar flies.” Alyssa stated before she tried to get up. Robert gently helped her and she moaned, rubbing her belly. “Seriously I am so ready for this little one to come out. And now that I no longer have to worry about you catching something from one of the girls at the bar, I feel better about Uncle Damien babysitting.”

With that she left them both, waddling back down the hall toward her room. Damien saw Robert watching his mate and noticed the look of worry on his old friend’s face. She would be having the baby soon and the closer she got, the more his friend acted like a nervous hen.

“I guess I should be happy that my pain amuses you both.” Damien looked at the window to see the sun coming up. He should go back home. Kassandra would be waking up any minute.

“Have you marked her yet?” Robert asked bringing his attention back to him.

“Last night after…” his voice trailed off when he saw Robert grin at his statement. Damien wondered how they’d managed to stay friends for so long.

“So what did Dmitri give you? Was it as valuable as he was making you think it was?”

Damien shrugged, “To be honest I haven’t opened it. I took Kassandra with me and hid her. One of Dmitri’s guards found her and brought her to us. Dmitri knew who she was right away. I was distracted.” There was a look of surprise on Robert’s face. When Dmitri first started calling him, he mentioned that the news would affect both him and his sister.

“I think you need to go and see what Dmitri thought he was going to be able to hold over you to get you to join him.” Robert announced after a long moment of silence. “It’s curious that he knew your mate would be loyal to her king and not try to get you both on his side.”

Damien shot his friend a dirty look and got up and walked to the door. He opened the door and frowned, realizing he had been gone longer than he’d originally planned. There was a good chance Kassandra was awake and his sister would probably be stopping by any moment. He could feel how anxious she was last night to see what Dmitri had given them, but as usual she willingly put his needs above her own.
