“I don’t remember doing it,” Justin replied, “but if I did, I’m sure he deserved it.”

“Why did James try to shoot Derek, then?” Cordelia shook her head. “There doesn’t seem to be any honor among thieves.”

“Derek was trying to blackmail James about Justin. Blackmailing James about anything was not a smart thing to do. Are there any more questions?” Mitch looked at his watch. “If not, I’d better get back to work.” He started for the door then turned back. “Suzette, do you think you’d be interested in talking to my boss?”

“Maybe later. Right now, I’m committed.”

  “To what?” Justin demanded.

“To Maria, Cordelia’s maid.” Suzette said. “She just passed her citizenship test. Since Ken Abbot and Jerry Fontaine are so grateful to us for helping them close down the illegal alien ring, they’ve arranged for her daughter to receive her citizenship, so Sam and I are going to help Maria smuggle her daughter out of Cuba.”

He shook his head. “You’ll be breaking the law.”

“We aren’t smuggling her into the U.S., just out of Cuba. We already have a passport to get her into the country so she’ll be okay. The only laws we’re breaking are Castro’s and as far as I’m concerned he doesn’t count.”
