“Another time, Alexia,” Drake replied in almost an irritated tone. I tried not to take offense over his response, but the more I watched him pack up the picnic basket and blanket in haste, the more I began to be upset that he would want to leave so early.
“Is it’s something I did?” I asked quietly as my mind starts to run a million miles per second as I over analyzed everything we said and did this night. Drake stopped what he was doing suddenly and came to me, placing his large warm hands on my shoulders.
“It has nothing to do with you, Alexa. Please believe that I just need to go for now,” Drake tried to explain as I attempted to keep my breathing steady even though my heart pounded in my chest.
“Will you tell me then?” I asked as I lowered my eyes, not sure what to do now that this perfect night was ending so quickly and unexpectedly.
“I can’t without putting you at risk,” Drake replied as he brushed the hair out of my face and turned my chin up so I could look into his eyes once more time.
“Will I ever get to see you again?” I asked lastly, wondering if I had been played a fool once again. But when he smiled down at me and titled his head towards mine, I relaxed under his grip and welcomed the soft kiss that brushed my lips.
“Till next time, Alexa,” Drake said softly before letting me go, picking up the picnic supplies, and walking quickly away into the darkness.
Chapter Three
The drive home was slow as I took my time crisscrossing back through town to reach my little studio apartment. I battled with my emotions, wondering what Drake could be hiding from me but at the same time dreaming of a time when I could feel his lips on me once more time. I kept wondering if Drake would be holding some dark secret, like a wife and kids, or perhaps another girl on the side. I shuddered at the idea, thinking how ridiculous that would be. I tried to force all the negative thoughts out of my head and instead keep all the good thoughts locked in, like the wonderful date I had just been on and how great it was to spend time with Drake in person for the first time. I had to have a little faith that things would all work out and eventually Drake would feel comfortable telling me more about his life, and whatever he was hiding from me.
By the time I made it back to my apartment, I wasn’t exactly thrilled to be going upstairs alone, but once I remembered I had a completely unopened pint of cookies and cream ice cream in my freezer, the long walk to the top floor wasn’t as horrible. But when I finally arrived at my door step and reached to unlock the door, I realized the door was slightly opened; the wood trim cracked from the door being forced open.
My heart began beating hard against my chest as I held my keys tightly in my fist, lacing the keys in my fingers in an attempt to make a weapon. I pushed open the door with my other hand, watching as it opened all the way to a completely dark apartment. I knew I should have just ran back down stairs and called the police, but I wanted to know what had happened and if this was some sort of bad joke someone was trying to play on me. I wanted everything just to be fine as I stepped into the room and felt for the light switch, almost wishing I hadn’t when the lights flicked on.
There on the edge of my bed sat a man I didn’t know, his head hanging low, his face covered up by his long blonde hair. He rolled his shoulders before looking up at me; dark brown eyes locking with mine that forced me to cry out. Before I could even stumble back through the door way, the man was on his feet in one second, and completely transformed the next. I blinked in complete shock at the beast that stood in front of me, a light brown wolf as big as my car. I first wondered if I had started to hallucinate somehow, or was I already asleep and dreaming? The loud howl from the creature broke my frozen mind as I finally stumbled backwards just as another large wolf, black as midnight, came crashing into the apartment.
Growls, yips, and the gnashing of teeth rang out around me as I forced myself back as far as I could till my back was up against the hallway wall. Fur flew, furniture was overturned, followed by specks of blood on the carpet, and finally a slumped body next to my bed. I watched as the light brown wolf changed back into the man I had first seen on my bed. Now he was a bloody mess, his eyes turned back into his skull. It wasn’t until I heard Drake’s voice that I looked up from the horrific scene.
Where the black furred wolf once stood, now Drake was in its place. My brows bunched together as I looked at him, my head turning sideways as I tried to figure out what was happening around me. Could this really be happening? Did Drake just show up and save me from a wolf, because he is also a wolf?
It wasn’t until Drake was at my side pulling me to my feet that I finally blinked. I fought against his grasp, pushing against him with all my might, but it did little to his toned body.
“What are you!?” I screamed as I beat my firsts against his chest till he finally caught my hands, pinning them behind my head, up against the wall. With him breathing so furiously, it should have been a big turn on, but instead my whole body was screaming to run.
“I’m a wolf, Alexa. A shifter. I live in the mountains with my pack and I am their Alpha. The wolf that broke into your apartment is from a rival pack who wants our land and is doing everything possible to make sure my pack doesn’t produce any new pups,” Drake said quickly, almost losing me the entire way. I just looked at him, becoming lost in his eyes as I searched the truth. The real truth. Surely this could not be happening to me.
“Listen to me, Alexa. We need to get you out of her. Your apartment isn’t safe anymore. They’ve seen you with me, smelt me on you, and they will stop at nothing till your dead in my arms,” Drake explained, the last few words coming out as a whisper.
“How do I know this isn’t some sick joke and that you didn’t spike the wine?” I breathed out, straining against his grip that he wasn’t willing to let go.
“You have to believe me. Your life depends on it,” Drake reasoned as he finally let my arms drop. I rubbed my wrists for a few seconds as I analyzed him. “Now pack a bag so we can go.”
When I looked back in the apartment and saw the dead body, it was the only reason I needed to go knowing I couldn’t stay here anymore. Once Drake noticed my gaze, he pushed me aside till I couldn’t see inside the apartment any longer. He moved without asking, quickly darting into the apartment. When he returned a few minutes later, he had my gym bag over his shoulders with God knew what. I didn’t ask another questions as he led me by the arm down the staircase and back out into the darkness.
Chapter Four
I held my arms firmly over my stomach as Drake drove us out of town and into the mountains, rising up the hillside before disappearing over the first ridge and down into the mountain range. I focused on my breathing; breathing out and then back in again. I tried to focus on nothing else during the car ride, both terrified of what was left in my apartment and where Drake was taking me next.
“Your safe with me,” Drake eventually said as he slipped his hand into my clenched fist, forcing me to relax and except his touch. My mind then focused on the warmth, comforting feeling of his hand in mine. I wanted more than anything to believe he was taking me back to his cabin in the woods after a romantic night, instead of the nightmare we had just left behind; or the truth that Drake was not exactly human. He rubbed his fingers over my knuckles soothing my body further.
Eventually Drake turned off the main road as he SUV took to the dirt road like water in a river. He knew the path well, unafraid of the dark, towering trees the lined the road. I could do nothing but place my trust in him as the road turned and curved higher into the mountains. It’s when cabin lights started to peak through the woods that I realized Drake didn’t live alone.
“Who else lives out here?” I questioned as I leaned forward in my seat to see the cabins better, each one along a single lane road that wound up the hillside.
“My pack members,” Drake explained as he parked the vehicle next to a row of others and removed his hand from mine, forcing me out of the vehicle so I wouldn’t lose sight of him in the di
mly lit area. I pulled the gym bag over my shoulder and wanted to ask what he meant when the sound of children filled the silence of the night as a group of kids came running down the dirt road towards him.
“Why are you all not in bed!?” Drake cried out as he picked up as many as he could manage, ranging from toddlers to almost teenagers. My heart warmed at the sight of him with these children, though it was strange to see such wild children out so late without any other parents around.
“We wanted to know how your date went,” one child spoke up, proud of his statement while all the other children stopped and stared at him as Drake carefully set each child down, a somber look on his face.
“Run along, children, back to your mothers and fathers,” Drake said in his low, rumbling voice that sent each child back to their homes as quick as they came.
“Looks like a pretty close community,” I spoke up as I came to stand next to him as we watched each child disappear.
“We are,” Drake replied as he grabbed my hand and started leading me up the dirt road. “We don’t have much, but we have what we need. A roof over our heads, running water, electric, and some modern comforts. But here we are able to run wild and be who we were truly born to be.”
“You mean wolves,” I spoke out loud, surprised by my own words. Could I really be admitting to this craziness?
“Yes, Alexa,” Drake said with a sigh as we finally reached the last cabin on top of the hillside. “We are what we are,” he said as he pushed open the front door, opening up to a simple one room, lofted cabin. In the center of the room was a burning hearth, making the room warm and inviting. Drake turned on a light as the door closed behind us. I couldn’t help but stand and stare at the simple nature of the cabin. There was everything a person would need, from a kitchenette, to even a small living room with an outdated television. Even though it was rustic, I couldn’t help feel comfortable in this atmosphere. After all, it was still bigger than the studio apartment I had just left behind.
Thinking about the dead body again gave me chills as I gravitated to the couch, setting my bag aside and sitting down heavily; leaning back into the cushions as a sort of barrier to my broken mind. I didn’t even glance towards Drake as he came and sat down next to me and slid a hot mug into my hand.
“Drink this. It will help you sleep tonight,” Drake instructed as I placed the mug to my lips and took a small sip; a sweet liquid burning my tongue for a mere moment. I enjoyed the distraction as I focused solely on ingesting the tea. Slowly my mind turned towards the thought of sleeping here, in Drake’s house, in a mountain community of werewolves.
It was only when the cup was empty that Drake moved again, taking the cup from my hands and setting it on the coffee table in front of the couch. I didn’t object as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders, leaning down and bringing me to lay next to him; the warmth of his body calming my nerves as I snuggled against his chest and finally closed my eyes. I tried my best to relax as I inhaled his earthy scent; him wrapping his strong arms around me as he placed his chin on top of my head.
“I won’t let anyone hurt you again,” was the last thing I heard before I finally drifted off to blissful sleep.
Chapter Five
The sun felt blinding as I turned over in bed. I could not remember the sun being so bothersome before, but as I slowly opened my eyes, I realized I wasn’t in my studio apartment any more. Instead I was about to fall off the couch. Regaining my balance and sitting up, I looked around once before the memories started flooding my mind. The attack, the drive through the mountains, coming to Drake’s home. Sleeping in his arms.
Heat rushed to my face as I looked around from any sign of Drake, but as the sound of running water caught my attention, I focused towards the bathroom at the back of the room. As I stood up and stretched before walking towards the bathroom, I could hear him humming to an unfamiliar tune; his deep voice making the action quite attractive.
I eventually turned from the sound and walked over to a large open window, leaning down to peer through into the morning sun coming up over a mountain ridge. I could hear the shuffling of feet as I peered down the dirt road, the whole community seeming to come alive as people walked about and children scurried down the hill. I watched as they all piled into a waiting van before taking off down the only main road leading to this area. Likewise, several adults get into the last few cars, even the one Drake had used last night, and they left as well. I could only presume for work back in the city.
I turned when the bathroom door opened, my checks flushing as Drake stepped out in nothing but a bath towel wrapped around his hips. I knew I should have looked away, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from his chest, glistening with moisture. But the more I examined every inch of his naked flesh, the more scares I started to notice. I moved forward quickly, wanting to get a better look at what had marked his skin.
“I’m okay,” he said bashfully as he noticed what I was staring at.
“It doesn’t look okay,” I mumbled as I reached out my hand and traced a long, pale scare with my finger down his side. His tanned skin made it obvious where he had been injured. His deep sigh was extremely noticeable as he took my hand and pulled me closer to him. I wrapped my arms around him as I rested my head on his chest, his free arm wrapping around my shoulder as the other held firmly to his towel.
“You don’t look afraid,” Drake commented as he continued to breath heavily. I leaned back in his grasp and peered up at him, his eyes glistening with fear.
“Of course I’m not afraid. I have you now,” I said softly as I reached up and placed my hand on the side of his face; he immediately relaxing into my palm as he closed his eyes.
“But don’t you think I’m a monster?” he asked with his eyes still closed.
I thought about the question for a moment, remembering the black furred wolf that had ripped the other wolf to shreds.
“You saved my life, Drake. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be here right now,” I replied calmly.
“But if I hadn’t met you in person yesterday, then this all wouldn’t have happened,” he retorted as he finally opened his eyes and looked down at me.
“But then I wouldn’t be here now with you,” I fought back, urging him to give up this sense of hopelessness. Moments of silence passed between us as I continued to hold his gaze. “You are not a monster, Drake.”
Those words stirred him to action as he wrapped both arms around me and plunged his lips to mine; fierce and passionate as I wrapped both arms around his neck and tangled my hands in his shaggy black hair. He lifted me from the floor in one swift motion and brought us back to the couch where he laid us down, his towel now lost somewhere on the floor.
The way his hands explored my body made me shiver despite the heat I felt radiating from his body, one hand making its way under my shirt while the other supported his weight as his lips continued to ravish mine. I traced his spin with my hands, rubbing his sides in anticipation which caused a low growl to rumble through his chest. I couldn’t help but smile which gave him the ability to slid is tongue over mine, a war between our tongues exploding between us. When I felt his hard member twitch between my legs, I gasped, my nipples becoming rock hard at the thought of the pleasure he could give me in the next few minutes, or hours.
He helped me sit up as I pulled my dress off over my head, tossing it to the floor as he undid the clasp of my bra that slid off with ease, giving him access to my breasts that he quickly grasped with one hand and bent down and took the other in his mouth, his tongue doing circles over my nipple. I arched my back and moaned at the delightful sensation, leaning heavily on my arms as I forced my body against his. His chest rumbled as he laughed switching breasts to pleasure my other nipple as he teased it with his tongue, my body trembling already under his body.
“Enough,” I said hastily as I forced him back, no longer able to take the lashing he was giving me with only his tongue. I could already feel the moisture building between my legs as s
lid off my underwear, kicking it off with my foot. I reached between us, grabbing his length in my hands as I caressed his tip and wrapped my other hand around his shaft before sliding slow up and down. Drake thrusted forward slightly as he let out another growl, momentarily closing his eyes as I felt him grow in my hands. His length and thickness were very surprising, but also exciting as I imagined what he would feel like deep inside me.
Drake leaned down and continued to kiss me, wrapping his fingers in my hair as he slowly thrusted into my hands. His breathing quickened as he kissed me, his fingers running along my body, sending a wave of pleasure through my body at his soft touch.
“My turn,” he said hastily as he moved down my body, forcing me to let go of him as he settled between my legs. My eyes widened as he looked at me right before he settled in between my legs and plunged his tongue between my wet lips. I let out a very loud gasp as I bucked my hips against his mouth, his fingers rubbing against my mound as though he was doing his best to drive me crazy. I put one hand on his head, lacing my fingers in his hair as I held him against me, slowly rocking my hips into his face. His breath was hot against my mound, sending tingling sensations through my legs with each breath.
When I felt like I was going to be pushed over the edge, I grabbed his hair and lifted him up, leaning forward onto my knees so I could put my lips on him, loving the taste of myself on his tongue.
“Enough playing,” I spoke, his hands already turning me as he leaned me over the back of the couch and spread my legs wide. He stood up behind me as he guided his length into my sopping wet core, pushing gentle against my opening more sliding the tip of his length inside, moving ever so slowly.
“Tease,” I hissed as I forced myself against him, but he caught my hips in his hands and chuckled, stopping me from seeking the release I craved.
