My invincible 2020 debuts, for being the writing community I’d always hoped for. We survived!
Niki Khan, for the welcome feedback.
Mandy Kerridge, for helping me update my decade-old perceptions of ship life.
Judith Fournier, for your insights on life in la belle province.
Vanessa Butler, for being such a good friend and supporter of my work, even though you forgot the manuscript beneath the table.
My mother and father, who let me chase adventure despite preferring that I stay safe at home.
My friends, family, and everyone who supported my first book with such enthusiasm.
The staff and crew of the Summit, 2005, for embracing my unique brand of crazy and for not throwing me overboard.
The staff and crew of the Pride, 2004, to whom this book is dedicated: Melissa, Chris, Hannah, Erinn, Erin, Evan, Crissy, Ciara, Ali, Lorenzo, Andrew, Gord, to name only a few. To Claudine, the first person I met on the dock in Long Beach, who welcomed me aboard with such warmth — you are missed, but we’ll never forget you.
Finally, to Thomas, for making today so bright that I no longer feel the need to escape into the past. There’s so much more adventure ahead of us.
