“Do you want me to go too?” he asks. “Or do you want to go down there by yourself?”
“I want you to come with me. We can get a hotel room. We can drive down the coast.”
“I’d love that.” Corey kisses my forehead. I know I’m still sticky from working. I took a break the minute I read the email.
“This is big, it’s important.”
“I know.”
“I have a lot to do between now and then. I have to update my portfolio.”
“Whatever you need, you let me know how I can help.”

I kiss Corey. It starts light and turns playful. I feel him stiffen in his shorts, but I have my mind elsewhere.

Corey laughs and pulls away without concern.
