“Don’t you have to go out on any more rescues? Retrievals?”

“Not if I have something else going on. I have employees.”

“Oh, I thought maybe you were a one man operation.”

He lifted his shoulders in a shrug and feeling a bit bashful, said. “I own a company with nine other operatives.”

  “Rowdy, I had no idea!”

  “Yeah, I do okay.”

“More than okay, it sounds like.”

“Does that make a difference?” He said it like it was a test.

She stilled. “You mean do I need you to be rich? Of course not. I’m happy for you. I bet your mom is real proud of you.”

“I didn’t grow up in a nice place like this. We didn’t have much. I don’t live very fancy now. A condo in Scottsdale near my mom. It’s just a place to crash between jobs.”

“Why are you saying this? Do you think that I can only, um, care for a man with money?” She sounded offended.

  “It’s important.”

She looked fierce and shook her head. “No, this is important.” And she kissed him, making it tender and romantic.

It was the most exceptional kiss he’d ever had. “Maybe you’re just grateful,” he couldn’t help saying when she came up for air.

  “Yes, I am,” she whispered.

His shoulders straightened, his torso became rigid.

“You idiot. Can’t you tell this is more than just gratitude?” She slid off his lap, knelt between his legs, and licked his cock.

Her breath bathed his dick in moist heat. His fingers went to her head, threaded through her hair.

  “Oh, God, you taste so…mm.”

Was she just going to lick him like a Popsicle? “Do we have time…?”

She glanced at him, her tongue extended and toying with the little hole on the head of his penis. “Do you really want me to stop when I have a hankering to suck your cock into my hot, wet mouth, and lick you and play with your balls…”

“Christ. Just shut up and do it,” he ordered.

Shocking him, she sucked him in—hard.

He bucked at the erotic sensation. She couldn’t take all of him, but she was trying, God love her.

  She stopped.

  No.

“This won’t take long, will it?” She teased, then slid her mouth around him.

“No, baby.” It was ground out of his chest.

  Her cheeks hollowed.

He wanted to watch but couldn’t keep his eyes open. It felt so good. She suckled like a vacuum cleaner. God, Almighty. He held the sides of her jaw in his palms and guided her on and off. The little witch took over though and sucked, the wet sounds the sexiest he’d ever heard. And, she was right. It didn’t take very long at all. He’d been highly aroused before she started, and between the sounds and the sight of her blonde head between his legs, sucking on his dick, he ejaculated fiercely into her mouth. The sensation of her swallowing almost did him in, the compression and milking exquisite.

Flopping back on the bed, he whimpered. His wet cock felt cold when she removed her mouth.

She brushed her lips along the inside of his thigh.

He really needed to sit up and take her in his arms. To thank her for the best blowjob he’d ever had, and, man, he’d had a few. That wasn’t gratitude. “Come up here, babe.”

She climbed up beside him and rested her head on his chest.

He felt her quivering. “It’s all right. Let’s cover you up.” He pulled the blanket across the bed and over them both.

“Didn’t I prove this is more than gratitude?” she asked in a quiet, shy voice.

“Yeah, sweetheart, but you don’t have to prove anything.”

“I don’t want to go out with my folks tonight. I just want to be with you.”

  “Are you sure?”

“Yeah. I’m going to cancel. We need to talk.”

“Sara, I’ve never felt this way about a woman before. I’ve never come after a rescuee.”

  “I know, darling.”

Normally, he’d bristle at that kind of endearment. Darling was especially intimate in his mind.

“We’re both charting new territory with this, I think.”

“Yeah, but I take risks for a living. This is one I want to go for.” He took a deep breath. “I don’t want to leave you. I can run things from here. It’s time for me to turn to the business side of the company and let the younger guys do the dirty work.”

“Are you sure?” she repeated his question back to him. “We haven’t known each other long, but I want you to stay. We’ll never know if we don’t give it a chance.”

  “Yeah, darlin’,” he grunted.

That was the last of the talking for a while. For a long while.
