  “We should go,” Natalie whispered as her lips parted, begging him to kiss her.

  “Yes,” Michael’s tongue slipped into her mouth, skimming the inside of her lips and over her even teeth, his lips never touching hers.

  “Natalie, thank you for giving me another chance,” Michael whispered. “Every day I’m going to show you how much I love you, how I’ve always loved you.”

  Natalie’s heart swelled. She’d never been as happy since the day Michael walked back into her life.

  “Me too, Michael,” Natalie promised.

  His tongue swiped along her lips, dying to taste her, relish her, slowly, taking his time.

  “Wait until later, baby, the things I’m going to do to you,” he whispered, their breaths mingling.

  “Mom! Michael, we’re going to be late!” came Alex’s voice from the front door.

  “Thank God for kids,” Michael laughed quietly.

  It was about a half hour drive to the courthouse. Natalie gazed out the window as her mind relived the past two years. Michael had made more than good on his promise. The first year they saw each other at least once every month, sometimes it was only for three days, others it was two weeks. On some visits, it was like they were new lovers, when in fact they were, somewhat, and others it seemed they’d known each other forever, because they had. It was a magical, wonderful journey. Then he moved next to her full time. And that’s when the fun really started. He had to go to New Jersey every so often for business, but it made his homecoming that much sweeter.

  After Michael pulled the BMW into a parking space at the courthouse, he turned to Alex and Angel.

  “Do you ladies have everything?” He hadn’t bothered to ask before they’d left the house. If it was possible for the girls to be any more excited than he and Natalie, they were.

  “Yep,” Angel beamed, proud of herself.

  “Right here,” Alex answered, trying to be very mature and worldly.

  “Ready Natalie?” Michael asked, turning his eyes to the woman he loved.

  “I’ve been ready, Mr. Sterling,” Natalie smiled, a little nervous and a little excited.

  They were getting married today. The only people that were invited to witness the ceremony were the two people who mattered most; Alex and Angel.

  It was very important to Michael and Natalie to include them in every stage of their relationship, well almost every, to avoid any misunderstandings and misconceptions. Michael’s children were older and he’d been working with them in his own way.

  The four of them exited the car. Michael clasped Natalie’s hand tightly in one hand and Angel’s in the other, truly a sweet angel, while Natalie held Alex’s hand, her strong young woman. Mother and daughter shared a glance and it told Natalie everything she needed to know. They knew she was happy, and they were happy for her. Because in their own way, they loved Michael too. The four of them ascended the few steps of the courthouse, to start a new part of their lives.

  Love doesn’t die. Sometimes the right person comes along at the wrong time. Sometimes it comes at the right time for one, but not the other. And sometimes, if we are really lucky, it comes along twice.

  Addiction

  Michael fought with an addiction we can’t see, one where the dragon that consumed him at times doesn’t need something that’s bought or found in some sleazy crack-house. But the struggle and anguish is real, none the less. Sexual addiction can destroy lives, it can rip everything away that one holds sacred, leaving the addict lost, scared, alone, and confused.

  According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, AAMFT, website, nearly 12 million people suffer from sexual addiction in the United States. And the numbers are rising. Their lives have become unmanageable, they have crossed over lines they would have never crossed before, with negative consequences resulting from the behaviors, affecting the lives of all involved causing pain, heart ache, and almost irreparable damage. The addiction becomes so overwhelming and extreme, they do anything with anyone to get what they crave.

  Because there was a history of addiction in Michael’s family, his mother was an alcoholic, he was predisposed to addiction. It was in his blood. And although there are no chemicals involved with sex, the body produces its own ‘feel good’ nuerochemicals that are released during sex giving feelings of attachment and even love. Also, according to the Medical Daily website, both men’s and women’s bodies and voices respond similarly as someone who has taken heroin when an orgasm is reached. So, yeah, you definitely get high.

  The problems arise when there are existing feelings of no self-worth, history of abandonment, the things Michael experienced as a child, compounded with his genetic addictive pre-disposition. Along with these is abuse, (physical/emotional/sexual). The sex is used by the addict to be the person they so desperately yearn to be, to feel all they long to feel, and to numb-out the feelings of rejection the addict lives with, and to get the high.

  In my opinion, this is a very dangerous pit to fall into because of the feelings of love and affection the mind is shot up with during the act, feelings that we all want and crave. Feelings of importance, of being wanted and appreciated, all things that can’t be obtained in a drug or bottle. But only in the arms of another. This can lead to a very vicious cycle, which undoubtedly will end in the destruction of families and lives.

  There is help available. The most beneficial, after recognizing the problem, is therapy which can be done individually, in groups, and marital. A detailed plan of action also needs to be in place.

  The end goal is not to eliminate sex, but to allow healing and forgiveness for any and all trauma the couples and families have lived with and experienced. And then to establish a loving relationship filled with trust and intimacy, I believe.

  And because of the romantic in me, this is when the magic will happen.
