I drew a pebbled nipple between my teeth as she moaned, arching her back to offer me more. When I was too hard to control myself, I reached for her feet and pressed them to my chest as I positioned myself in front of her. I drove myself in and she screamed my name, gripping me with her warm walls. I couldn’t fuck her hard enough to get my fill. I moved hard, staring down into her face.

“Feels so good,” I muttered as I held her legs to me.

I could feel her more this way and judging from the way she was reacting to me, she felt every thick inch of me. I fucked her faster as she moaned, trying to move with me despite the control that I had over her. I felt the pressure building and moved harder, watching as she burst apart.

Her tight pussy squeezing down on me made me clench my teeth as I came, filling her with my seed.

I fucking loved being inside of her so deep. I never wanted her to forget how I felt there and stilled as I closed my eyes. Brianne breathed heavily under me and I stared at her as I pulled out of her and dropped to my side.

“You can go all day, can’t you?” She panted as I drew the shirt down to look at her reddened nipple.

“I’m only twenty-nine, Brianne. I have a fuck load of stamina and you always give in so easily,” I said as she closed her eyes.

“It’s never felt this way before.” She sounded stunned, and I rested my head on my pillow, stroking her nipple tenderly.

“How many men have you slept with?” I asked, both curious about the answer as well as dreading it.

“Just five. I live in a small town. Remember?” Brianne asked as she gazed at me. “You? Probably a lot, looking the way you do.”

“Just six, Brianne. I learned early on that casual sex was not for me and then I got married. Once we split, I focused on work and Lindsay,” I explained as she watched me talk.

“I’m your first since the divorce?” Her voice was filled with disbelief. “How is that possible?”

“I have enjoyed being alone. I have thrived on it, Brianne. Until I saw you, I would have been happy keeping that kind of life.” I reached up to stroke her cheek, then her lips.

“Why me?” Brianne asked as I took in her flawless, flushed skin.

“I don’t know. I just knew the moment I looked at you. Your strong personality drew me in, making me want to be with you.” I was blunt.

  She widened her eyes.

“I feel the same thing about you,” Brianne said softly as we rested together.

I could see that she was still tired and smiled softly as her eyes drooped closed. I let her fall into a deep sleep and moved, dressing in my jeans before I went into the kitchen.

I looked over the contents of the fridge and determined what to make for dinner with the food that I had on hand. Since I wasn’t here a lot, I tended to keep it light. I noted that I had a chicken in the freezer and some vegetables to use for a dish.

I sat the package of chicken in the sink to defrost. I walked to the back door, stepping out on the expansive deck to look at the trees that went on for miles behind me. There was a mountain range in the distance and I often watched the sunset there. It was gorgeous, and I knew that I would be watching it with Brianne later that night.

I thought about her again as I sat in a chair with a beer. I wasn’t lying when I said I enjoyed being alone. Apart from Mom and Lindsay, I didn’t want anyone in this house with me. Initially, I built it for my family but that fell apart before we ever visited the cabin. I let it sit empty until I sorted out my life and then moved in, withdrawing from everyone except the people that I had to see.

Was Brianne one of those people now? Would she return after this time together?

It was about an hour before I sensed movement in the house. I turned my head and forced my thoughts aside as I saw Brianne walking into the living room, dressed in her leggings and flannel. I rose, and she looked at me with a soft smile as I walked inside.

“Nice nap?” I asked her as Brianne walked up to me, sliding her hands up my chest.

“You wear me out,” She told me as I leaned down to kiss her. “I might not ever recover. I don’t come across a man like you too often.”

“You never will again,” I promised her as she raised a brow at me. “I took out chicken for dinner. How does that sound with some vegetables?”

“Perfect. Want some help with it?”

We stood together in the kitchen, working together as we talked and listened to music over the Bluetooth speaker on my counter. Tonight, I was playing some classic rock and watched as she swayed to it. I knew that she was around my age and expected her to like the newer pop music more. I only liked this kind of music from growing up with my father until I was a teenager.

The songs reminded me of him and I valued the memories. My father was a good man and I often thought that I wasn’t as good with my own daughter. Dad had Mom supporting him while he worked for the local lumberyard in the town my mother still lived in. She was in the same house. Lindsay slept in my room now, decorated to her tastes. I hoped that he was looking down over us with some pride.

“Did I lose you?” Brianne asked as I blinked. “What are you thinking about, Mark?”

“I was thinking about my father. I lost him during high school,” I replied too easily, stunned by my words.

I didn’t talk about myself often, choosing instead to listen to others. Most people loved nothing more than talking about themselves.

“Were they still married?” Brianne asked as I nodded.

“Yes, and still crazy about each other. I admired their love. I tried to replicate it in my own marriage.” I said easily opening up to her.

What the fuck was going on?

“It was her loss, Mark. You’re a good man that loves your daughter. I’m sure you loved your wife just as much,” Brianne told me as I looked at her.

“Thank you for that,” I replied as we dropped the chopped root vegetables into the baking dish and covered it with the seasoned chicken breasts.

I covered that with foil and slipped it into the oven, asking her if she wanted some wine. I had a bottle from Mom’s last visit.

“That sounds great,” Brianne responded as I poured her a glass and grabbed another beer.

We settled on the couch and she gazed around as I turned on the TV. I kept it low and settled on a sitcom as I pulled her close to me.

“I see why you want to live alone in a place like this. It’s so quiet. My house isn’t even this quiet with the people around.”

“What is your place like?” I asked her as she smiled.

“It’s just a small cottage that I rent from this couple that has owned it for years. It’s nothing fancy but it is cozy. I love living there.” I looked at her as she frowned slightly, squeezing her shoulder. “I never thought that I’d travel too far from there.”

“You’re just in Montana. Not that far. Didn’t you say that your best friend moved to the east coast?” I asked her as she nodded.

“She was running. Hallie needed some space and left for college, staying away. I didn’t want to do that. I enjoyed it.” Brianne shrugged as she looked at me. “This seems far away.”

“What happened?” I pressed as she leaned against me.

“Our friend was killed in a car accident. Hallie and Micah were bordering on getting to be more than friends, but it didn’t happen. She was devastated. The whole town talked about it as people do and the rumors were crazy. Hallie applied for college and she was gone. I was lost without her but knowing everyone around me was comforting.” Brianne smiled happily. “Now she lives there with her husband and she’s happy. We’re back together again.”

  Chapter 11

  Brianne

The oven chimed, and we went in to get the food. The cabin was fitted with new appliances and I assumed that he’d remodeled it. More than likely, he did that when he decided to move in. It was a home now, not just a vacation house. We plated the food and went to the heavy oak table with fresh drinks.

  I cut a pi
ece of chicken and stabbed a potato before taking a bite. I moaned at the flavor that filled my mouth and Mark gazed at me with intense eyes.

  “So good.”

“Wait until you taste Mom’s cooking,” Mark told me as I blushed. I was meeting his mother and daughter. That was so much more than I ever expected from this vacation. “What is it?”

“I’m nervous about that,” I admitted as he nodded.

“I am a bit as well. I don’t take people there too often.” He took another bite of food and chewed slowly as I frowned at him.

“Will she think anything of it?” I asked Mark as he stared thoughtfully into the dark night through the expansive windows.

“I’m certain she will. She was upset when Nina left.” Mark said softly as I took another bite. “I just… I don’t know what this is.”

We continued eating as thoughts raced through my mind, making me drink the glass of wine a bit too eagerly. I didn’t know what was apart from a vacation fling at this point. It was one that could have ended it at the inn, but we decided to make it last longer.

A part of me never wanted it to end. Mark filled some void in me. He was incredible in bed and gave me the kind of pleasure I’d only read about. All women deserved that even if it ended. I was admittedly jealous of Hallie after she met Colton and started walking around with that glow from great sex.

When I was full, I pushed my plate away and drained the glass before we stood to take everything to the sink. Mark put the leftovers into a container and then the fridge before refreshing my glass and getting another beer. We went back to the couch and I watched a movie wrapped in his arms, enjoying the warmth of his skin and the quiet of the cabin.

He looked down at me when the movie ended, asking if I wanted to go to bed. I nodded, wanting to make tonight in his cabin last as long as possible. I wanted to freeze time as we went into the bedroom, fucking again.

It was slower this time but just as hard. I groaned with the thrusts, clutching the sheets under me as he pushed into me from behind. I came as hard as I did the first time, crying out his name before he shot deep inside of me. I dropped to my stomach and breathed in as a Mark dropped beside me, slipping an arm around my back.

Was this my last night in his bed?

We fell asleep after I let my eyes close and I woke up on my side with Mark’s arm wrapped tightly around me. It was early morning and I could see the sky lightening through the blinds as I blinked slowly. I knew that I still had some time to sleep left and turned around, pressing against his chest as his arms tightened around me.

Mark woke me with his mouth on my bare nipple and I arched against him.

“You’re insatiable,” I murmured as Mark chuckled.

The sound sent vibrations through my body and I bit my lip as I shuddered. Mark sucked one nipple and then the other before moving between my legs to tease my clit, making me beg for him. He dropped to his back, telling me to get on top of him. I complied, memorizing the feeling of him sliding into me as I pressed my hands against his chest. I moved slowly, first up, and down before circling. I learned quickly what Mark liked and was soon riding him hard and fast as hands gripped my hips.

He moaned my name as I looked down at him, watching his mouth part as he came. After he rose up to slide deeper into me, I felt my body explode as I came with him.

We rested in bed together for a while before rising to shower together. I let him take me again in there, pressed against the shower wall before we rinsed off. I dressed in clean clothes and checked my bags before he checked that everything was off in the kitchen.

Mark carried both bags to his car and watched as I locked the door before we walked out into the driveway.

The birds were singing, and the sun was bright. I looked around, marveling at the privacy here.

Mark started the engine and called his mother to let her know that we were on our way. I heard her voice through the phone, asking about me but Mark shut her down. He told her that we’d see her in a little while, ending the call.

I gazed at him. “Are you sure about this?” I asked softly as Mark stopped at a sign.

He looked at me and nodded, reaching out to touch my denim-clad leg.

“She’s just nosy,” Mark assured me, checking for cars before turning right and heading away from the cabin.

I gazed over the scenery, wondering what was ahead as I felt his hand stroking me gently.

I’d seen photos of his pretty blonde daughter in his cabin and she was beautiful. She had big eyes that matched Mark’s and a sweet smile. I could only hope that I would get along well with her. If she was anything like Jessica, I was sure that I would. I already missed that kid.

We pulled into a town that reminded me of Chester and he turned down a few streets. The buildings were similar, and the trees were thick and green. I watched as he pulled into a long driveway, parking in front of a pale-yellow ranch house. Mark pulled the brake up and I smiled as the door flew opened and a little girl ran outside.

  “Daddy! Daddy!”

Mark jumped out faster than a man of his size should as I watched from inside the vehicle, catching her in his arms and holding her tight. Oh, my heart. I melted a bit in that seat as I watched her chattering to him with pure joy on her face.

His wife was a fucking idiot for leaving him. I looked past them to see a woman walking out with a smile. She must be his mom. They looked so much alike and she stared at Mark and Lindsay before looking at me in the cab of the car. Her smile was welcoming and curious as I blushed again.

Mark came around to open my door, urging me to come out and meet them. He introduced me first to Lindsay, who was wrapped around his neck as she smiled at me. I walked forward and shook Nancy’s hand, feeling the kindness in her grip and seeing it in her eyes. She welcomed me to her home and we made our way inside as I looked around.

The door led into a foyer that led into the living room. It was large and comfortable, attached to a large kitchen. I could see a hallway that probably led to bedrooms and another door leading from the living room.

“Your home is lovely,” I announced.

“Thank you,” She beamed as she glanced around.

The walls and shelves were filled with pictures and I knew that he grew up in a home filled with love. The little girl was clinging to him as she talked endlessly and I giggled at her enthusiasm. Nancy asked me if I wanted coffee or tea and I followed her to the kitchen, leaving them alone.

She poured us both coffee, and we sat down at a round table as she took me in.

“They’ll be awhile. That little girl loves when her daddy comes to visit.” Nancy smiled at me again. “How did you meet my son?”

It was almost comical to hear this soft, petite woman call a man the size of Mark her son. He towered over both of us, making me wonder if his father was tall.

“I was on the last tour. I guess we clicked,” I replied, careful of what I said.

I had no idea how close they were in that sense and didn’t want to make myself sound bad.

“He doesn’t do those as much now. That’s nice because I think he spends too much time alone.” She smiled and I sipped my coffee. “Did you enjoy it? Where was the tour?”

“Glacier Park. It was gorgeous and Mark made a great guide. He took us to some amazing places,” I replied enthusiastically.

“Where did you travel from?” Nancy asked as I looked out of the window to see a large pond behind the house.

“I live in Chester. Are you familiar with it?” I asked as she tilted her head.

“Here in Montana?” I nodded. “I do know it. It’s a lovely town,” Nancy told me as I smiled. “Have you always lived there?”

“I have. I guess I am a small-town girl,” I admitted as I turned my head to see Mark approaching us.

He was holding Lindsay’s hand and Nancy rose, asking him if he wanted some coffee. Mark nodded and sat down to my left with the little girl in his lap. Nancy brought him coffee and Lindsay some juice before si
tting down again. They chatted about the cabin and work. Nancy asked about Trey and Mark assured her that he was still the same obnoxious guy as always. I assumed that they’d met as well.

The man beside me filled the air in the room as well as the chair beside me. He was larger than life. I listened and added things in when I felt like it fit, memorizing him with Lindsay. I wondered how a mom could abandon this girl, even going as far as to wonder how he didn’t have Lindsay with him or live here with her.

I shut down those thoughts, knowing that he had her best interests at heart.

We made some lunch about an hour after we arrived, keeping it to simple sandwiches and fresh fruit. Once we were done, Mark took Lindsay to her room to get her down for a nap. Nancy told him that she woke up early, anxious for his arrival. I helped Nancy clean up, staring out at the pond as I set the dishes in the rack to dry.

Nancy told me that she was going to lie down as well. I smiled and told her to get some rest, wandering out towards the pond once the counters were clean. It was an open space with the water, several trees, and a picnic table.

I could see a play park a few miles away and smiled at the idea of Mark growing up here, not to mention Lindsay’s life here. I could see why he made this choice, however temporary that it would be. I wandered to the edge of the pond, sitting on the soft grass as I leaned my head back to soak up the sun.

I knew that we were here for at least two nights if not three. I loved it already and didn’t mind, considering going into town one day to wander around.

I took my phone from my jeans and dialed the shop, smiling when Hallie answered. “Hey, babe.”

“Bri! How are you?” Hallie greeted me as I smiled. “More to the point, where are you?” She knew that I was spending some more time with Mark, surprised and delighted at the idea.
