He smiled. “Not as bad as I thought. Other than nasty roads not much else is happening. Couldn’t wait to get back to you.”

She brushed her fingers over his face. “You look a little down, though. What’s wrong?”

He smoothed his palms down her back. “I was thinking about how I proposed to you. It was a damned crazy, clumsy way to do it.”

She shrugged. “It doesn’t matter. All the matters is that I know you mean it. I know you love me.”

“God, that’s the truth.” His eyes held deep emotion, his smile filled with teasing and the prospect of a long night filled with loving. “I’m the luckiest bastard on the planet right now.”

“I’m the luckiest woman.” She wriggled against him slightly, so he could feel her against him.

He groaned. “Damn, woman. You feel good. You’re dangerous.”

“Then I think you should marry me as soon as possible. The girls are plotting, and I’m afraid it’ll turn into a Buckleport social event.”

“How about as soon as we can get a license?” He looked happy as hell.

“Deal.” She kissed his chin. “Now, help me take off this flannel, General. It’s getting kind of hot in here.”

He chuckled at her teasing, and before he kissed her, he said, “Yes, ma’am.”
