She felt tears start to form in her eyes. “Yes,” she whispered, holding out her hand.
He slid the ring on her finger.
“Of course, we’re too old for this,” she laughed, wiping at one eye before surveying her hand with the diamond on it.
“We’re not old at all,” said Isaac.
“It’s beautiful,” she murmured. She looked up at him.
He gazed back at her. “I love you, you know that?”
She laughed again. “I love you too.”
Her cell phone made a notification noise. She ignored it. She reached for him, and then he kissed her, and it was just as sweet and easy as it always had been.
The notification marched across her screen, while they kissed, saying that she had an email from the Maryland System of Corrections electronic message system, did she want to install the application to read it?
Later, she would read the message, from Crispin Edmund Barker. Caught a story on the news lately, Lorelei. You never said anything about having a son.
