  “I know,” he admitted.

“Attention, everyone,” Christopher’s voice cut through the din in the bar. “Hello!”

Everyone quieted and turned to look at Christopher who had pulled up a chair and was standing on it. “What are you doing?” I hissed.

He looked down at me and smiled. “Leila Bell, you came into my life at a time when I needed you most. Your big heart captivated me from the moment I first laid eyes on you.”

“Big heart,” Alan snickered. “I don’t think it was her heart he was staring at.” There was quiet laughter around the bar. Even Christopher laughed.

I scowled at him, before turning to look back at the man I loved. “Continue please,” I encouraged.

“Your intelligence, wit, and honesty pulled me to you. I couldn’t take my eyes off you from that very first class. Over the past year, you have shown me and Olin so much love and given us so much support, I don’t know if I can ever properly thank you. You took us into your heart and wrapped us up in love and acceptance. I love you with all my heart. I never want to live in this world without you by my side.”

Music came on through the speakers. It was the Meat Loaf song. It was an inside joke between me and Kami, and now Christopher. I couldn’t stop the tears from flowing as the song played in the background.

Christopher climbed off the chair and walked towards me. “I would do anything for love, anything. There is nothing off the table.”

He pulled a black box from his pocket before dropping to one knee in front of me. Everything around us faded to blackness. All I saw was him kneeling before me. “Christopher,” I breathed his name.

“Leila, will you marry me? Will you spend the rest of your life with me? Will you do me the honor of being my wife and making our family complete?”

I was bobbing my head up and down. Tears were blurring my vision as I stared at him. I kept nodding, my hand over my mouth as I took it all in.

“You have to say the word,” I heard Olin shout.

I burst into a watery laugh. “Yes. Yes, I want to marry you.”

Christopher smiled and got to his feet. He slid the ring on my finger. All I could see was a shimmer. My vision was too blurry for me to make out the details of the ring. It felt heavy and if I knew Christopher, it was probably the size of a golf ball.

None of that mattered. I threw my arms around his neck and held him close before pulling back and giving him a sultry kiss. There were cheers around us and the sound of clapping hands.

The music was turned up. “Will you dance with me?” Christopher asked.

  “Absolutely.”

We swayed back and forth to the sounds of Meat Loaf. I had never been so happy in all my life. Every day with him just got better and better. “I love you,” he whispered close to my ear.

“I love you, but Christopher, I have one request.”

“What is it? Anything you want, I will make it happen.”

I leaned back and looked into his eyes. “This cannot be our wedding song. We have got to find something else to have as our song. This is embarrassing.”

He burst into laughter. “We’ll work on it. This was Kami’s idea. She said you would want a good laugh.”

I smiled, nodding as my eyes scanned the room looking for her. “Yes, I suppose a good laugh always makes things better. I’m so going to pay her back for this.”

He kissed me again. My life was complete. I had everything I could have ever wanted. Kami had been right about needing to go through the hard stuff. It made the good stuff all the sweeter.
