“I need a wrench,” Seth said seriously, looking around the room. He didn’t really need one, but he liked to play with tools, so I got up to get the one from my tool bag for him. However, when I bent down, the wrench flew out of the bag and floated to Seth, gently landing in his hand.

  I looked at the wrench in my son’s hand, then to Roman, and back again. He nodded, mouth gaping open. “It happened,” he said quietly, watching Seth like a hawk.

  “What was that, Seth?” I asked, crouching down next to him.

  “My other Daddy taught me to do that.”

  “Your other Daddy?”

  “Yeah, the one I see when I’m sleepin’,” he said.

  I swallowed. “What else does your other Daddy say?”

  Seth shrugged innocently. “He gave me Boots.” Boots was the damn kitten that showed up on Porschia’s front porch a few years ago, and the bane of my existence. It hated me with a passion.

  “And sometimes he doesn’t like you,” Seth added.

  “Well, buddy, I love you and that’s all that matters. You tell him that for me, okay?”

  “Okay,” he said, tightening an invisible bolt. “I think it’s fixed now, Dad.”

  “Good. Why don’t you go tickle Ford before he leaves?”

  “Good idea!” he shrieked, dropping the wrench onto the wooden planks of the floor and running down the steps.

  Roman shook his head. “What the hell does that even mean?” He motioned toward where Seth had been sitting on his knees.

  “I have no idea.”

  Thank God for his many blessings in my life.
