"I know, but we have to be prepared for whatever comes our way Jane. Nobody knew such a day would come" said Aaron, his heart was beating hard thinking about what might happen now, but he wanted to sound brave.

"I don’t know about you two, but I don't think I am making it to the final stage. The training is going to be so hard, I am sure to fail and then they will send me back" said Flynn making a sad face like he had lost all hopes.

"Don’t say that Flynn, you have fought the real Lurgs and faced many other dangers, the training will be a piece of cake for you" said Jane assuring him.

  Flynn nodded but remained gloomy.

Aaron suddenly remembered that he had asked nothing about the training to Alfadon.

"I forgot to ask about the rules of the training” Aaron gasped and turned towards Alfadon’s room.

"Don’t even bother asking Alfadon, I tried to ask him many times before. But he won't tell anything. He said that the new rules are made by the judges every year and this year the King of Light kingdom gets to decide whatever he wants" said Jane making a face.

“But Thodin said there are going to be warriors, the best from all over Kron and we have to defeat them. Have you seen the giant warriors, how could we ever defeat them. They will slice me into pieces, oh god I am so doomed" said Flynn and buried his face in his hands.

Jane pursed her lips and looked at Aaron. Aaron sighed and gestured Jane not to say anything and go to her room. He knew he had to take care of Flynn.

Jane walked away looking back at Flynn and Aaron many times.

Aaron walked with Flynn to Flynn’s room and they both sat silently in the room for some time. Aaron let Arkion walk free in the room.

Flynn was looking out of the window. Heavy rains started to pour down from the sky and the thunders were loud and sudden.

Aaron finally spoke “Flynn what are you thinking?”

“I am enjoying the rain for the last time, God knows when I will ever get to see it again!" he said sulking.

"Flynn come on. Don’t say that! Nothing will happen to you. I and Jane will be there to protect you. You are not going to be alone to face the training" Aaron said.

Flynn looked a little relieved but he still was gloomy.

“I just want all this to get over soon, not that after the training things will be easy” said Flynn

He was right. The training was just the beginning, they had to face the real enemies after that and be part of the real war.

"I know Flynn, but we will make it. You know not many could do what you are doing, right?. Consider yourself privileged. We are fighting for our country Flynn. Think how proud your mother would be if she had known"

Flynn turned towards Aaron and nodded happily "Yeah she would be very proud, her son in the king's service" he said.

"Her son is one of the Defenders of Kron" said Aaron and kept his hand on Flynn’s shoulders.

Flynn was not sad anymore, the life came back to his eyes and he was looking alive again.

"You think I can make it" he slowly asked Aaron.

"For me, you have already made it" smiled Aaron.

They spoke about many things after that. Aaron cracked a few jokes to lighten Flynn’s mood. Flynn told him that one of the kitchen maids likes him and smiled at him every time she sees him. They talked about Arkion for a while and then their conversation went all over the place.

"I couldn't believe that the Defenders are so different from each other. I heard that no two defenders have the same skills" Flynn said.

"Yes I know. It is to confuse the enemy. They are mostly unaware of what we can do and how would we attack. We are not called a special force for nothing, right?" said Aaron.

"We are very different Flynn and we need your skills of throwing knives. Don’t you understand it; it is about becoming better at what you do. They expect you to defend yourself and fight with the help of the skills you are natural at, your knife throwing skills. You just have to practice more and think how you can tackle the given situation, that’s all. You have done that before in real fights, you can do it for the training too"

Flynn was listening to Aaron attentively. He didn't even blink.

Arkion was screeching at the corner but Flynn paid no attention to him. While Aaron tended to Arkion and gave him some berries which he carried in his pocket Flynn sat and pondered on what Aaron had just said.

Aaron came back and sat next to Flynn again. He continued “see how Jane has mastered the magic and she is becoming better at it every day" Aarons eyes gleamed as he thought about Jane.

"I know she is good. Sometimes I get jealous of her, she is excellent at everything she does” Flynn paused for a second and looked at Aaron “But I don't think she is supposed to use all magic" said Flynn.

"What do you mean? asked Aaron narrowing his eyes.

"I think Alfadon was upset with her using the mind control magic on the Lurg"

  "Really?"

"Yes, before you came to the garden behind Alfadon’s room, he was quite mad at Jane for doing what she did. I did not know what to say, it’s good that you came"

"But why was he mad at her? I though she helped"

"Alfadon said that she was not a natural and she should not try the mind control magic again" Flynn waited for a few moments and then said "He said it would kill her"

"Kill her!" said Aaron with wide eyes.

"yes, he said she was forbidden to use that magic"

Aaron was shocked, he never knew that doing certain magic could even kill. He saw what had happened to Jane but he never could imagine that it could have killed her.

“Can magic be so dangerous" asked Aaron.

"I think so, she wasn't happy about it. But it looked like she knew it quite well."

Aaron was now very angry with Jane. How could she put herself in such dangers when she knew she was an important part of the group? He clenched his jaws but did not say anything to Flynn.

His anger quickly disappeared and worry took its place. He had to talk to her, he will not risk losing her over some stupid decision she makes to use dangerous magic.

The rest of the days passed quite smoothly. Among the luxuries of the palace and various delicious foods everyone forgot their worries. He wanted to talk to Jane about the magic she is not supposed to use but Brandon was with her all the time like a shadow.

Aaron played with Arkion and Brandon a lot forgetting what was waiting for him ahead. He slept peacefully for two nights but the days seem to go swiftly.

Finally the day arrived when they had to start for the Kingdom of Light. The training was essential but they had far more important thing to do including warning the King of Light about the coming of Gordon and his Lurgs and to hide the Cup of Life so that Gordon could never find it.

Aaron was all prepared to leave. He stepped outside where the horses were ready but there were many more surprises waiting for him, for which he was least prepared.
