Thorn’s flying around hadn’t attracted too much attention as Heaven Devouring Serpents are capable of slithering on air even when they are Mortal beasts. If it had been some other beast, then it would have shocked them as non-flight capable Elemental Beasts can only run or slither on air after becoming Immortal beasts.

Raymond didn’t speak much but had a big smile on his face. This smile said a lot about his mental state. Arlo almost felt like cursing the heavens for giving Ryan such heaven defying luck and a heated discussion broke out amongst the Ancestor Level Martial Artists.

Ryan, on the other hand, had found his third and last target, a Fire ape. This was a Normal Elemental Beast with the bloodline of an Ancient Elemental Beast Inferno Ape and it was a Fire Attribute Elemental Beast. The one in front of Ryan had a Cultivation of Early Mortal Lord Realm and was sitting on the branch of a tree and looking at Ryan with hungry eyes. It was also committing the same mistake as other the Elemental Beasts in underestimating Ryan.

The Fire ape jumped from the branch onto the ground, which caved in a little due to the force with which it had landed.

“Roar!” The Fire ape roared as it started beating its chest with its fists producing a sound similar to that of a beating drum and its body lit on fire. Fire apes are known for their bodily strength, which they get from their Inferno ape bloodline.

Ryan didn’t want to waste any time with the Fire ape, so he decided to end its life as soon as possible. He extended his palm and his hand was engulfed in pitch-black flames, Hell’s Fire flame, which transformed into a Black fiery snake, that was unnervingly life-like. It flew towards the Fire ape at an extraordinary speed in a manner similar to Thorn’s slithering on the air, as it attacked the Fire ape. Ryan had used Thorn as an inspiration for creating the Black fiery serpent.

The Fire ape’s expression changed. Being a Fire Attribute Elemental Beast, it could tell that the Black fiery snake was made of variant flame and it had no intention of making contact with the Black fiery snake, so it quickly started running in the opposite direction to save its life. It had never expected an Early Mortal Elite Realm Martial Artist to produce such a horrifying attack. A smile crept on Ryan’s face upon seeing this.

The Black fiery snake was diabolically fast, so it caught up with the Fire ape within a few moments and struck its back.

  Boom!!!

Hell’s Fire flame exploded out of the Black fiery snake, and the next moment, Hell’s Fire flames had engulfed the Fire ape’s body – it had no chance of avoiding the Hell’s Fire flame.

“Roar!” The Fire ape roared in pain as it fell on the ground lifelessly. Its body was burnt by Hell’s Fire flames into nothingness, except for its Elemental Core, which Ryan picked up. He had controlled the Hell’s Fire flame so the Elemental Core was not harmed in anyway. Ryan put the Elemental Core into his Spatial pouch and continued moving towards the Divine Martial Sect.

Ryan didn’t know it, but this last performance of his had caused many Ancestor Level Martial Artists to be stunned in the extreme. Emerson was comparatively even more stunned after seeing the Hell’s Fire flame and Ryan’s terrifying control over it, as it was not easy to create life-like beings out of flames, as one required phenomenal and precise control over flames to do that.

If it had been an Immortal Realm Martial Artist, it would have been no big deal, but they had never seen a Mortal Realm Martial Artist create such a life-like being out of flames. If a Mortal Realm Martial Artist were to attempt that, the being created would be crudely shaped, not life-like. Soon a smile appeared on Emerson’s face.

No one knew what he was thinking.

  Ch.17

Ryan kept on moving in the direction of the Divine Martial Sect at his top speed and only stopped to rest at night or to replenish his Spirit Power, as he had already completed the necessary conditions which was to hunt three Elemental Beasts.

After traveling for three days, a lush green mountain range came into his vision. A smile crept onto his face on seeing it, as he was finally in the vicinity of the Divine Martial Sect.

The Divine Martial Sect had been established within that mountain range, which had been named the Divine Mountain Range by the founder of the sect, and it spread over thousands of kilometers. The Divine Martial Sect had been established there because of the numerous Treasure Lands of varying attributes scattered around Divine Mountain Range, which made it an ideal location for establishing a Sect or Family Clan. The Pure Elemental Energy from these Treasure Lands was used for nurturing disciples.

Treasure Lands also produce Heavenly Treasures that are given to talented disciples as rewards, or used by the Elders, Grand-Elders or Ancestor Level Martial Artists depending upon the grade of the Heavenly Treasure. Treasure Lands are also an excellent place for the growth of Plant spirits and Tree spirits. Divine Mountain Range is one of the reasons for the prosperity of the Divine Martial Sect.

The Divine Martial Sect doesn’t control all of Divine Mountain Range. It only has control over half the Treasure Lands in it, the remainder being in the control of other beings like Elemental Beasts, Undead creatures, other Humanoid races and so on.

The Divine Martial Sect is situated inside the tallest mountain of Divine Mountain Range, Cloud-piercing Mountain. This mountain literally pierces the clouds, so its top is not visible as it is hidden in cloud. Cloud-piercing Mountain was hollowed out by the founder of the Divine Martial Sect to establish his Sect.

The inside the hollowed-out mountain looks no different from a regular city. It has all the kinds of facilities that a Martial Artist requires to be able to peacefully cultivate. The interior is hollowed in such a way that Divine Martial Sect has very good ventilation. The ceiling is studded with sunstones, which are natural sources of light and keep the inside of Cloud-piercing Mountain illuminated throughout the year.

Ryan had to travel for another day before he was out of Desolate Forest and then cross numerous mountains before he was able to see Cloud-piercing Mountain. He was unable to contain his excitement, so he increased his pace and he charged towards Cloud-piercing Mountain at full speed.

Generally, the person who secured the first position in the Marathon each year took around a week or so, but Ryan completed the course within five and a half days. It was not that Ryan’s running speed was faster than that of the other newly recruited disciples. His early arrival was due to his ability to track Elemental Beasts and know how to traverse through a forest. Ryan was better than the other newly recruited disciples in those two respects because of his Asura Eyes. That Special sight was the main reason behind his uber-performance.

Most disciples spend a lot of time finding Elemental Beasts that they can handle, but this had been no problem for Ryan. With a single look he could see all the Elemental Beasts in an area and chose the one he could handle. Sometimes newly recruited disciples enter the slumbering place of an excessively strong Elemental Beast and end up dead before they can be saved by the Elders keeping a watch over them. While traversing Desolate Forest Ryan always circumvented such obstacles. It could be said that this Marathon was tailored-made for Ryan to shine.

When Ryan reached the base of Cloud-piercing Mountain, he found his Master waiting for him there. There was another person by his side and Ryan could tell this person was also an Ancestor Level Martial Artist. It was none other than Emerson. Arlo had had to leave because of some urgent work, so he’d been unable to go along with them too. Ryan quickly gave them a deep bow. Raymond and Emerson gave him slight smiles.

“You sure came early. Most disciples have just passed the halfway mark,” Emerson said in a complementary tone and a proud smile appeared on Ryan’s face.

“Don’t get conceited over small achievements, though,” Raymond said in a grave tone. Ryan’s smile vanished on hearing these words. His tone was effectively opposite to that of Emerson’s, but Ryan knew his Master was saying that for his benefit and he quickly nodded his head.

“I think you will most likely secure the
first position this year. The reward that will be given to you will be enormously beneficial for your growth,” Emerson said with a mysterious smile.

“What exactly is the reward?” Ryan asked with curiosity.

“Wait for some time. You will come to know soon enough,” Emerson said with a laugh.

“Ryan, since you will be my disciple, I will have to tell you a few things about myself,” Raymond said in a serious tone. Ryan nodded his head.

“A few thousand years ago, I caused a big ruckus. I killed thousands of Martial Artists of a powerful faction named the Dark Moon Family Clan whose Main branch was established on a Divine World just like your Heaven Sundering Family Clan’s was,” Raymond started.

“I could have annihilated the entire Grandura branch of that Family Clan, but its Main branch interfered and forced me to retreat,” he said.

“Actually, I almost died,” Raymond said as he clenched his fist. It was clear that he unable to forget that defeat even to this day.

Raymond continued. “Martial Artists from the Dark Moon Family Clan’s Main branch arrived on Grandura that day, most likely Celestial Realm Martial Artists. Though in the world of Grandura those Martial Artists would have had their strength and powers suppressed to that of the Immortal Saint Realm, they still possessed powerful bodies and it was almost impossible for actual Immortal Saints to hurt them.”

“Currently, those monsters are living in the world of Grandura to protect the Grandura branch of the Dark Moon Family Clan from me. They have tried to kill me a number of times, but on Grandura they lack the strength and powers to kill me,” a smile appeared on Raymond’s face as he talked about the Martial Artists from the Dark Moon Family Clan failing to kill him. Clearly he was quite proud of that.

On hearing this Ryan was dumbfounded and he couldn’t help but ask, “Is the Divine Martial Sect not helping you?”

“The Dark Moon Family Clan is many times stronger than the Divine Martial Sect. The strength and powers of the Main branch of the Divine Martial Sect are very small in comparison with those of the Main branch of the Dark Moon Family Clan. That Clan is on the same level as your Heaven Sundering Family Clan,” Raymond explained.

“The members of the Upper echelon of the Divine Martial Sect had no choice but to banish me at the time to save their Sect from destruction. They quickly formed an alliance with a few other factions of similar standing as themselves to avert that calamity,” he added somberly.

After a while, he continued with a grimace, “That alliance was somehow able to force the Dark Moon Family Clan into retreat. Only after that did the Divine Martial Sect dare to cancel my banishment from it.”

“I was too blinded by revenge and forgot a lot of things,” Raymond said with a wry smile.

It was clear that he regretted his actions, which had almost caused the annihilation of the Divine Martial Sect that year.

“Is the Dark Moon Family Clan still openly gunning for you?” Ryan asked with concern. He knew how difficult and dangerous it was to mess with a powerful faction single-handedly. In his previous life, he’d done something similar to Raymond and it had resulted in only his death, but Raymond’s actions had caused the deaths of many people that were important to him, so he could not help but sympathize with his Master.

“Yes. They don’t give up on a single opportunity to kill me. They might also try to make a move on you, but the chances of that are little because of your background. They will avoid making an enemy out of the Heaven Sundering Family Clan,” Raymond said with a sigh.

“Master, I don’t mind them trying to kill me at all,” Ryan said with a smile as Baleful aura started to leak out of his body. Raymond and Emerson could guess what Ryan was thinking to some extent seeing his Baleful aura leak.

“If the Dark Moon Family Clan comes for you, don’t kill them or it might put the Heaven Sundering Family Clan in a tight spot. Just hide or run to save your life – and tell your faction about it. That will allow the Heaven Sundering Family Clan to put the Dark Moon Family Clan in a tight spot,” Raymond said.

He knew that Ryan had very little understanding of the different factions and the agreements between them, so he warned Ryan beforehand, but Ryan was able to understand the meaning behind his Master’s words.

“Master, why don’t you start a proxy war with them? That would keep you out of the dock and make sure that your enemies have a sleepless night,” Ryan said with a sly smile.

“It is not easy to fight via proxy. Their first suspect would be me and they would try to use that as an excuse to deal with me,” Raymond said in frustration.

“The factions in alliance with the Divine Martial Sect at that time placed a condition on the Divine Martial Sect for their support. They wanted me to stay low and avoid picking a fight with the Dark Moon Family Clan,” he continued despondently.

“Then you will just have to make sure that the number of enemies of the Dark Moon Family Clan increases,” Ryan said with a roguish smile and Ryan’s words shook the hearts of both Raymond and Emerson.

“We just need to find out their plans for the future and then make those plans collide with other factions. That will make enmity sprout between the Dark Moon Family Clan and the other factions,” Ryan explained.

“We would keep making our moves from behind the scenes to further deteriorate the relationship between them,” he added, and Raymond and Emerson also felt that this idea of Ryan’s could work.

“Master, can you keep a tab on their activities?” Ryan asked?

A few moments later, he floated another idea. “We could also use the Heavenly Treasures that are being nurtured in their Treasure Lands to our advantage. We just need to find the right people, who might be attracted by those Heavenly Treasures.”

“If we were unable to find someone, then we could organize things, so someone would be forced to pick a fight with the Dark Moon Family Clan for their Heavenly Treasures,” Ryan said ruthlessly. It was clear what his intentions were to Raymond and Emerson.

“What you are suggesting is not something that could be executed with ease. Someone is bound to notice it sooner or later,” Raymond said with a sigh.

Though the plans Ryan suggested were good, they were not without risk. It was not easy to pull wool over the eyes of Martial Artists who have lived for tens of millions of years.

“There is nothing wrong in trying. If we get caught, then we will just make an excuse like last time,” Emerson said with a smile. He had full faith in Ryan’s craftiness. He was certain that with him on their side, it would be difficult for others to point fingers at them.

“Don’t worry, Master. I will think of some good ideas for creating more enemies for the Dark Moon Family Clan,” Ryan said with big smile on his face. Raymond sighed upon seeing the enthusiasm of both Ryan and Emerson.

“We will back off if things don’t go according to our plan,” Raymond said with a serious expression. Emerson and Ryan had jubilant expressions after getting Raymond’s approval.

“By the way, who is your lady love?” Emerson suddenly asked with a teasing expression. He was curious about the girl, since Ryan had left the security of his own faction to come here for a single girl. He wished to know which girl could make Ryan take such a huge step.

“She is not my lady love yet and I don’t even know her name yet,” Ryan said with a shy expression. Raymond and Emerson had a hard time believing that Ryan could show such an expression.

“So what do you know about her?” Emerson asked.

“She is an Inner-sect Disciple and is also a Life Martial Artist. I only know this much and her face,” Ryan said with a grin on his face, but his words made Raymond and Emerson lose the color on their faces.

Ryan was taken aback on seeing such a reaction from his Master and his friend.

Raymond sighed and said, “The girl’s name is Cynthia. She is a disciple of one of my friends. She is engaged to the number one genius of the Dark Moon Family Clan. Her fiancé’s name is Rai, and
they are supposed to get married when Cynthia turns twenty.”

Ryan’s eyes went wide on hearing all this. He hadn’t thought he would have to deal with such a big problem, but since he’d already decided on Cynthia there was no going back.

“Master, do you know anything else about her fiancé?” Ryan asked frantically.

Raymond didn’t hold back and told him everything he knew about Rai. “Currently, Rai has a Cultivation Level of Late Mortal Emperor Realm and he is only twenty-four years old. He is touted as the next head of the Grandura branch of the Dark Moon Family Clan.”

Raymond continued seriously, “Rai is a Dual Martial Spirits holder like you. One of his Martial Spirits is Solar Pulse Dragon and other is Ravaging Tree Spirit, both of which are terrifying existences. Solar Pulse Dragon is a Divine Elemental Beast of Light Attribute and Fire Attribute, while Ravaging Tree Spirit is a Darkness Attribute and Wood Attribute Tree spirit that has the potential to attain Godhood.”

“Even the Main branch of the Dark Moon Family Clan looks favorably upon him. Those monsters are personally teaching him. This has caused his Cultivation Level to increase rapidly, so he will not be an easy opponent if you wish to compete with him,” Raymond cautioned Ryan.

“Does that guy ever leave his Family Clan to visit the outside world?” Ryan asked as Baleful aura leaked out of his body.

“Yes, he does, but he always has one of those monsters protecting him,” Emerson said, as he and Raymond understood Ryan’s intention.

“Is there any Legacy Land or any place similar which might be opening in the near future that has the potential to attract him?” Ryan asked. Raymond and Emerson gave Ryan a deep look – they had to say that Ryan was too crafty.

Only young Martial Artists can enter Legacy Lands, so people above a certain age limit are unable to enter them. In most cases it is thirty years. Legacy Lands are something whose charm young Martial Artists are unable to resist, as they contain Martial Skills and Heavenly Treasures which can altogether change the life of a Martial Artist.
