  ‘I’ll see what I can do,’ Richter replied, and stepped out into the night, to where Dave had just braked the heavily modified Ford Transit to a stop.

  Carpenter opened the rear door of the vehicle and stared at the destroyed entrance to the safe house, then looked at Richter.

  ‘Quite a party?’ he asked.

  ‘You could say that,’ Richter replied, ‘but as I said to Simpson, who’s even more pissed off than usual, at least it’s all over now. And I would really appreciate a lift back to my flat, because trying to find a taxi out here in the sticks at this time of night would really be a bitch.’
