“Will you still annoy me if I let that guard completely disappear?”

She wasn’t being truthful. I knew she’d never lower her guard completely, simply because she was a mother. No matter what she did, Parker would always be in the back of her mind, so her actions and decisions would forever be calculated. And I didn’t expect her to give that part of herself up. Her motherly qualities and good instincts were what I loved about her the most.

  “I doubt it.”

She sighed. “What happens after we find the money?”

“We give it back to the people who hired me,” I lied.

“It feels weird paying that much to criminals.”

I wished I could tell her the truth. But not yet. There was no need to make her feel nervous before the job.

  “Simon owed it to them.”

  “Fifty million?”

“I don’t know what kinds of deals he made, but I’ve seen enough documents to assure me the money’s theirs,” I lied again. If there was anything I wasn’t willing to break, it was the commitment I’d made to my job – and part of that entailed not spending money you didn’t yet have. It could fuck with your mind. In the end, the criminals would get what they deserved, and justice would be served to those seeking it, so temporarily holding back some information was the best decision.

  “If you say so.”

“Were you happy living in the rich neighborhood?”

“In the beginning, I thought we needed everything Simon could provide. Good school for Parker, access to all the extra-curricular activities, the newest tech toys. It didn’t take long for me to realize that what Parker needed the most was Simon’s affection and time, which had a very high price.”

“Why did you stay in the marriage?”

  “It wasn’t bad.”

  “That wasn’t my question.”

“He was a good man, but I suspect he got involved with the wrong people.”

“Would you have stayed with him if he hadn’t died?”

“I don’t think so. In fact, I had the divorce papers ready. It was one of the main reasons I was arrested as well. The investigators immediately thought that a divorce equals bad blood between the couple, which equals murder. You know, motive and all that crap because of…” She lowered her head. “His cheating.”

  Fucking bastard!

“He didn’t deserve you and Parker.” I reached forward and lifted her chin with my finger. “Parker saw what happened that day, didn’t he?”

She hesitated for a moment before replying, “He did.” April set the wrap aside and took a longer sip of her wine. Whatever she was hiding, I knew I’d get it out of her sooner or later.

“So tell me about this eagle on your back.”

She was as good at changing the subject as I was. “It’s in honor of my father. He was the strongest and most courageous pilot I’ve known. They called him king of the skies; hence the eagle. Have you heard of Captain Marks?”

April’s brows narrowed. Then the tension caused by her concentration was slowly released as she recognized the name.

“Your father was the one who made that landing without the gear, and didn’t give into the hijackers even after the loss of all that fuel. Holy crap!”

“It seemed he had everything going wrong for him that day, but he prevailed.”

“I see where you get your strength from. Wait – but he survived that flight.”

“He did. And he continued flying for another decade. It turns out he died at the hands of a coward on a regular passenger flight when he was returning home from a conference. Flight 294.”

  “The pilot who committed murder-suicide.”

“Yeah. I just wish Mom could find someone. It’s been fifteen years, but she says she’s been filled with enough love through her life to last her until she dies. She’s been lucky to have loved twice in her life.”

  “Twice?”

“Yes, she lost her first love when there was an accident at work and they were forced to separate. She holds onto these jars at home full of quarter tips she got from him while working at a coffee shop.”

“That’s sweet. You know, she looks like the kind of woman my father would love spending time with. We should introduce them.”

  “Maybe we should.”

“I’m sorry for your loss, Sean. It couldn’t have been easy.”

She leaned over and embraced me. Her soft body against my hard one. I rested my face in the nook of her shoulder and inhaled the fresh smell of her. It was calming and arousing at the same time. My mind traveled to those places where I was deep inside her, buried to the hilt, completely lost and at peace.

I pulled away slowly. My breath hitched and my lips trailed from her hair to her cheek right down to her succulent mouth. She parted her lips willingly. They were warm and tasted of wine and her. There was something different about this kiss, and I couldn’t quite figure out what. It was as if I’d been able to open an invisible door in that big wall she had stacked.

“Wait.” She pulled away. “I have another question.”

  Of course she did.

“All right. But I must warn you that if you hug me again, I won’t be able to let go.”

She laughed. I could listen to that sound forever.

“Okay, I can live with that. How and why did you disappear? Dave told me your name is at the same cemetery where Simon’s buried. Why go off the charts?”

“The how is easy. Job connections. And that’s where Charlie was buried. The why… I wish I knew how to explain it. When Charlie died, I wanted to die too. It was my fault.”

My whole body slouched. I wasn’t ready to tell this story out loud to someone else, and I sure as hell didn’t expect for April to stand up, come over, and place my arms around her waist. As I held her gaze, she straddled me, immediately taking away all the sorrows, forcing me to concentrate on us.

She cupped my face and kissed me, gently at first, and then harder. I wound my arms around her, bringing her closer. My cock was getting a pre-workout session as she swayed her hips over me, rubbing her soft cotton shorts and her pussy back and forth, rocking her hips as if I were already inside her. This was exactly what I needed. To forget. I wanted to concentrate on her and us and how quickly I’d be able to feel her slick warmth squeezing me.

But April had other ideas. She took her mouth away from mine, gently biting my lower lip and pulling it outward until it sprang back, watching my reaction of awe and disbelief. I loved how much confidence she had gained in the past month. What was she thinking? Those eyes held mischief and determination, and when her body slid down mine until her knees hit the carpet and her swift fingers took a hold of the drawstring on my jogging pants, I stilled.

  Whoa!

She looked up with those doe eyes, her intent no longer a mystery, and tugged at the pant line. At that point my cock felt like it would explode the moment it was freed. And without any briefs on, I lifted my ass as she drew the fabric down.

  Air.

Oh, God, nothing’s ever felt better.

  Wait. Fuck yeah!

Her hand on my shaft definitely felt better. She pulled the skin slowly, stretching it all the way from the bottom and squeezing tighter at the top. I looked down as she concentrated and skimmed her thumb over my crown, spreading the pre-cum, licking her lips.

My ass tightened. I could only imagine how her warm mouth would feel around me. I’d imagined it since the moment I saw her on that beach in Hawaii. At the time, that’s all I thought I’d ever have. But now her breath coursed around my erection and her head came down so, so close. It had been so long since any woman’s lips had kissed my cock.

Just don’t fuck this up. Don’t ejaculate yet. Enjoy.

Instead of taking me in, she teased with her tongue, all the way around underneath the rim.

Jesus Christ! How do I hold this in?

My hands touched her hair, my fingers gently insisting she go lower. I saw a smile curve on her mouth. She knew exactly what
she was doing to me. That first touch of her lips felt like heaven. And if anything beyond heaven existed, then that’s what her mouth on me felt like. It was better than jumping into a pool on a hot day. Or having ice cream to ease the heat of the simmering sun.

Vanilla ice cream, dripping like cum, and her tongue licking along the cone. At this moment, April was treating my cock like that cone. Her tongue pulled from the bottom up until her mouth took me again. This time she stayed there, bobbing her head up and down, increasing her suction, squeezing her lips around me, taking me in as far as the back of her throat. Not even gagging when I reached the end.

It was unbelievable. She was unbelievable.

Once her other hand cupped my balls, massaging me, she picked up the tempo. I lowered my hands to my sides, feeling that burst of energy collect in one spot, ready for me to let go.

A few more strokes. Hold it a bit longer, Sean.

But April’s mouth was relentless. She wouldn’t take it easy, and after having been without a blowjob for years, my cock was ready to finish this. And with that final pull from my balls, I let go.

  Fuck!

I shut my eyes and felt my mouth open. Some sounds came out, but I couldn’t remember them.

April didn’t stop. She kept on sucking until my last drop was in her mouth, gently stroking me, easing that burst of orgasm with licks and tugs, taking care of my cock as if it was the best lollipop a girl ever had.

When it all finally settled down, which felt like forever, I sat her on my lap and kissed her deep, tasting myself on her lips.

I lifted her into my arms and carried her to the bedroom. We spent most of the night awake, me inside her, on top of her, inside her, behind her, and coming countless times over her beautiful body.

  Chapter 19

  April

I strolled into the bank mid-afternoon like I owned at least half of it. The pencil skirt hugged my hips like it was part of my skin, and the corset-top Sean had picked out was more suitable for a night out. At least the scarf somewhat covered my chest. But what did I know about women who withdrew fifty million like it was pocket change? The sun hat shaded my eyes yet, wasn’t too large to disguise me. We didn’t want a disguise; the whole idea was for someone in this bank to recognize me, so we could ensure the woman who had impersonated me had used my name. According to Sean, this was the bank from which my doppelganger, a girl named Chelsea Conway, had withdrawn the money. And that’s where our trail went cold. Now we needed to figure out where that money had gone. With any luck, she had simply transferred it elsewhere.

The brand new Louboutins clicked against the marble floor at the bank. It had only taken me three hours to practice, and nail, the walk in my four-inch heels.

I squared my shoulders and held my head high, discreetly looking around the building and keeping the poise I imagined someone wealthy would have. This place was nothing like the banks in America. It was more like a palace from the fifteenth century, oozing glamour and prestige. The floor was clean enough to eat off of and the gentle sound of opera was playing overhead; at least I thought it was opera. The smell was also unbelievably delicious and homey. I would have thought a place like this would smell of money, but it didn’t.

The wealth of it all made me feel out of place. From the wide stone pillars that rose all the way to the ceiling to the plush carpeting by the couches, I felt like I’d stepped into a different world. Most clients here wore suits, and were men. Just as I raised my chin higher, a young gentleman greeted me. “Well, good afternoon Mrs. Davis.”

  Aha! Part one complete.

The phony lady who had taken the money had used my name after all. How could all that money have been in my name, when I didn’t know anything about it?

“Hello” – I snuck a quick peek at his name tag – “Frederick. I’d like to speak with the manager.”

“He’s in an appointment at this moment—”

“—Ask him to cancel it. This is important.”

I hated acting like a rich bitch. We had hoped that the manager would be free, though. Appointments could have been tracked in the system, but we couldn’t take the chance of pre-arranging this visit. Still, given that our goal was to be out of here in less than ten minutes, I had to act fast. I could almost hear the clock ticking in my ears.

Frederick led me to a secluded couch saying, “I’ll be right back.”

The cushion was firm yet very comfortable. Could this skirt get any tighter? With effort I crossed my right leg over the left and set my new designer purse on the side, keeping my hand on it the entire time. Sean said it would make me look like I belonged. Extremely rich people didn’t leave their possessions away from their bodies for too long. A broad-shouldered man who stood by a door in the back and looked like he could work in a wrestling ring had his gaze fixed on my legs.

I like you catty, I heard in my earpiece.

“Then maybe I’ll wear this outfit tonight.” I tried to speak without moving my lips, feeling my mouth lift a little to the side.

Forget the outfit but keep the heels.

Picturing myself standing in front of Sean with nothing except the shoes was already causing me to squirm in my seat. And then imagining him with no clothes on in front of me, pushing the stiletto heels into his chest as he towered over me, made my heart race. I’d never been so turned on by a man in my life. All it took were a few words to get my blood pumping.

I love it when you’re thinking about me and you naked, he said.

  “How did you know?”

  You just told me.

  “Cheater.”

Stop moving that mouth or someone will notice. I promise to reward your lips with my cock tonight.

I couldn’t help but pull my tongue over the lower seam of my lip. Two nights ago was the first time I’d gotten a chance to have him in my mouth. When I went down on my knees in the shower the day after, to feel his tip slide against the roof of my mouth right to the back of my throat, Sean was speechless. But I couldn’t get enough. For the first time in my life, it actually pleased me to satisfy a man.

Frederick returned in less than a minute, and I hoped the extra layer of makeup I was wearing still covered my flushed cheeks. “Mr. Crawford is available now. Please follow me, Mrs. Davis.”

We entered an exclusive office. Behind the desk sat a middle-aged man whose toupée seemed to have slipped just a little off-center. He stood up as soon as he saw me and came around the desk, reaching for my hand and gently kissing it. Yup, I was definitely not in America.

“It’s wonderful to see you again, Mrs. Davis. Please have a seat.” He gestured toward the chair and returned to his on the other side of the desk, clasping his hands. A drop of sweat ran down his forehead, and he wiped it with a handkerchief.

“Thank you. I appreciate the urgency with which you attend to your former clients.”

“Is there a possibility you’ll change your mind and come back? We can definitely re-evaluate any terms you wish.”

“Actually that’s why I’m here. I’m re-thinking my decision of withdrawing the money from this bank. The service at my other one is inexcusable. Can you believe they have a self-serve coffee machine?” I contorted my face as if someone had just committed a murder. At my comment, the manager pressed a little button on his desk. A minute later I had a fresh cappuccino in a china cup on the table in front of me.

“I can assure you, Mrs. Davis, that we’ll do everything to make your experience here as pleasant as possible.”

Shit, this manager didn’t seem like one to gossip. I needed the name of the bank to which I – or rather, my impostor – had decided to transfer the money.

“You know, I should make a complaint. If I do, I think it would lower their credibility, and maybe they could get a decent manager, like yourself.”

“Oh, I’m sure it was an innocent mistake. Gustavo Silone is a wonderful manager, but everyone makes mistakes.”

  Part two complete.

I felt bad for Mr. Crawf
ord. He seemed nice and honest. I was certain that for someone working in this industry it was a rare find. But now we had the manager’s name. Unfortunately, this bank would see that fifty million like a blind man.

I need two more minutes, I heard in my earpiece, and I assumed that Sean was searching for a manager named Gustavo Silone in whatever database he’d hacked.

“Well, I think they’ve made a fifty-million-dollar mistake. What are my options here?”

“You’re planning to invest all the money?” he asked.

“Yes, or at least most of it. I may splurge on some jewelry, so I’ll be interested in a safety deposit box as well.”

“I’m certain we can help you with all those needs.”

I’ll be the only one helping you with any needs, I heard in my earpiece again, and just in time, my phone rang.

“Hello,” I said with a smile, and then pretended to listen as if Sean had something important to say. Making a face of fear and despair was pretty difficult when I heard the words lick, fuck, naked and cock on the other side. Sean was definitely not making this easy on me.

“Yes, of course. I’ll be right there.”

I stood up too fast and the chair behind me wobbled. I almost tripped over as I tried to set it straight again. “I’m sorry, Mr. Crawford. But a family emergency needs my immediate attention.”

“I hope everything is all right.”

“Me too. It appears that Fluffy may have swallowed one of my diamond rings. I knew I should have taken him with me.”

“I’m assuming that Fluffy is a cat? I didn’t know you had one.”

  “He’s a recent purchase.”

He scribbled what looked like “Fluffy the cat” on a piece of paper.

“Well, then, next time you visit, please feel free to bring your cat with you. We carry the most notable feline food in the world.”

  You do?

“Here’s my private number if you need anything.” He passed me his business card.

  “Thank you for your time.”

It took all my strength not to run out, but if I wanted to make it with both my legs intact, I didn’t have much choice. Outside, wearing a black chauffeur’s hat, Sean stood with the door open to the waiting black limo. As soon as I got inside, he walked around the front of the car and sat in the driver’s seat. He sported dark sunglasses and a black suit, which made him look like he’d just come out of the wardrobe department on a movie set.
