  “Really?” Millie asked, surprised.

“Yes,” Mace replied with a smile. “I know it’s dangerous for only one Angel to be protecting you at the moment, but we need some alone time.”

“I have missed the old days where it was just us two all the time.”

Her mood had lifted as her mind wandered from Autumn to Mace. They could finally be alone, without another Angel constantly watching her.

“Me, too,” Mace said, squeezing her hand. “I’m just going to the bathroom and then we shall dance.” Mace stood up from the table.

“Remember, the last time we danced together, I fell to my almost death,” Millie said, tilting her head with a slight smile.

“You’re right. I should have remembered,” Mace said apologetically.

“Mace, I was joking. I’m looking forward to dancing with you again.”

“Okay.” Mace said, and he turned around and walked away.

Millie ate the last pieces of calamari on her plate as she waited for Mace. She drank the last of her drink and looked around. A couple walked past her and left the dining room hand in hand. They hadn’t been able to keep their hands off each other all night. Millie smiled as she saw them in an embrace right before they walked down the stairs and out of sight.

“Your partner is here, madam,” Mace said as his fingers traced her arms down towards her hands. He gently pulled her out of her seat. Millie would have jumped in surprise if the warm jolts weren’t going through her body. She hadn’t even seen him coming towards her. With a kiss on the cheek, Mace led her to the small dance floor in front of where the band was playing. He smoothly placed his warm hand on her back whilst Millie placed her hand on his shoulder. Their bodies moved slowly to the beat of the music. The couples who were left in the room stared. One of the couples had the same idea and joined them on the dance floor.

“Millie, you look so stunning,” Mace said quietly.

“Stop that,” Millie said, embarrassed. Her cheeks flushed a light pink.

  “Stop what?” Mace asked.

“Stop complimenting me all the time.”

“I can’t help it. You’re very beautiful.” Mace leant down to kiss her cheek. His lips felt wonderful against her flushed skin.

“You’re not too bad yourself,” she said with a smile.

“Why, thank you,” Mace said with a laugh.

They swayed to music for a while, staring into each other’s eyes. Their bodies were getting closer and closer to each other, and Mace couldn’t fight the temptation anymore. He leant down and kissed Millie. Millie was surprised. She had never felt Mace kiss her like this before. It was breathtaking. The kiss was passionate but obsessive. It was hard but still felt incredible. Millie pulled her lips back. The kiss was long and magnificent. When Mace pulled away, Millie was left in a daze.

“Shall we go back to our room?” Mace asked.

  “Yes,” Millie replied instantly.

Mace kissed her one last time on the lips before they left the dance floor.

Millie stopped outside their hut in amazement. There was a trail of candles and frangipanis leading up to the porch. Millie turned to Mace with her mouth wide open. “What? How? When?” Millie asked, taking deep breaths.

“I fibbed about going to the bathroom. I wanted to surprise you,” Mace said as he leant down to kiss her.

The kiss was long and loving. Mace pulled back and led her up the trail. The porch was full of candles and flowers. Mace opened the door for Millie to walk into the hut. Her eyes widened as she saw the whole bedroom covered with candles and frangipanis. Every inch of the bed was covered in flowers. Mace walked up behind Millie and hugged her. He brushed her hair away from one side of her neck and softly kissed it. Millie closed her eyes. She felt warm sparks going through her whole body. She then turned to face Mace.

  “This is so beautiful.”

“I’m glad you like it,” Mace said as his warm hands slowly brushed her arms. He started at her fingertips, then made his way to her shoulders.

“I love you,” Mace said, leaning his forehead against hers.

“I love you,” Millie said sincerely.

She leant her body towards his. Her lips reached up and touched his neck. He leant down and kissed her neck. His lips kissed an imaginary trail up to her cheek, feeling soft against Millie’s skin. They stared at each other for a while until they couldn’t resist the urge anymore. Mace’s hands clenched her cheeks as their lips touched passionately. Millie’s hands were firmly placed on his back. Their bodies came closer and closer until there was no space between them. The kisses grew harder and more loving.

Millie took a step back. She didn’t want to--her mind and body wanted to kiss Mace’s lips until it hurt. She regretted stepping back; she wanted to feel closer to Mace. Millie’s hands undid the dress. It fell down her body to the floor. Mace looked nowhere else except into her eyes. Millie nervously looked at Mace. His lips curved into a gentle, warm smile. His hands clenched the bottom of his shirt, then moved it up over his chest until it was off and lay on the floor. Millie admired his chest and torso—muscular and perfect.

Mace slowly walked towards Millie until she was in his arms. He picked her up and carefully laid her on the bed, his chest pressed against her. They looked at each other and smiled with love as Mace’s lips softly pressed against hers. Millie pushed back with force. Their bodies were clenched together. Nothing could tear them apart at this moment. They rolled around the bed feverishly until they were under the covers, naked. They had never been closer. Their bodies were touching. They could feel each other’s heartbeats against their skin. They loved being close. They had yearned for so long to be close together and now they had their wish. Their bodies pressed harder and harder against each other. They entwined their bodies together. Their breathing became louder and louder. Their bodies became one with everlasting love.

Millie woke up with a smile. She rolled over, hoping to hug Mace, but he was not there. She sat up and huffed. Millie hopped out of bed, wrapping the sheet around her. She opened the front door and the sun fell on her face. Her nose breathed in the smell of the beach, and her toes touched some sand near the front door. She looked around for Mace, but there was no sign of him. She walked onto the porch, and the sun touched her shoulders and arms. It felt beautiful against her skin.

She decided to sit down on the chair and wait for Mace. She smiled at the thought of last night. It was beautiful. It was magical. She closed her eyes and thought about what happened. His body had felt warm against hers. It felt right. Their bodies just melted into each other’s.

“Here you go, my beautiful,” Mace said, placing something on Millie’s lap.

Millie opened her eyes and saw a large tray filled with a variety of food.

“I went to get you breakfast so you could have it in bed, but I suppose breakfast on the porch is nice as well,” Mace said, kissing her forehead.

“Thank you so much,” Millie said, gushing. “It’s perfect.” She placed a short but sweet kiss on his lips. Mace gently lifted up her feet so he could sit at the end of the chair. With his sexy half-smile, he started to eat the fruit on the tray whilst Millie started in on the scrambled eggs.

“May I add that you look very sexy in a sheet?” Mace teased.

“Why, thank you,” Millie said, blushing.

“Was last night okay? Did I hurt you at all?” Mace asked, looking worried.

“Last night was perfect, Mace. You did not hurt me at all. It was just amazing,” she said with a smile.

  “That’s really good to hear.”

“Will you get into serious trouble about what happened last night?”

“I should be already in trouble by just being with you, but I haven’t been warned yet,” Mace said with a confused look. “But I don’t regret last night.” He leant down and kissed her leg.

“Why haven’t they warned you yet?” Millie asked.

  “I don’t really know,
Millie. It is very unusual,” Mace said as he slowly chewed on a strawberry.

“Can I get pregnant from an Angel?” Millie suddenly thought in shock.

Mace kissed Millie on the forehead.

“Humans can get pregnant by Angels, but don’t worry. You’re fine.”

  Millie smiled.

“Good morning, love birds,” Teal said, hopping onto the porch. “I see you had an eventful night.” He winked at Millie.

Millie blushed as she realised she was only wearing a sheet around her body.

“We had a wonderful night,” Mace said, standing up.

“I bet you did,” Teal said with a slight smile.

“We shall be right back,” Mace said. He bent over Millie and kissed her lips.

“Can’t wait,” she said, rubbing his cheek. Millie watched as Mace and Teal walked down to the beach.

“So you actually made love to her?” Teal asked, becoming serious.

“Yes, I made love to the girl I am madly in love with,” Mace said, standing up for his decision.

“Do you want to be putting her in more danger than she already is?”

“No, I don’t. I just wanted to be closer to her.”

“You have already decided your own destiny, haven’t you?” Teal said, starting to get angry. “You would need to fall to be with her.”

“They haven’t warned me yet. Maybe they’re actually letting us be together.”

“Don’t be stupid, Mace,” Teal said, starting to pace. “They will never let this pass.”

“Then how do you explain them not warning me by now?” Mace said, raising his voice.

“I don’t know why they haven’t warned you yet, Mace, but it will happen. Don’t just keep ignoring that thought in your head.”

“But I have to. I love Millie. I want to be with her forever.”

“You can’t be with her forever. At some point in her life, she will die, Mace.”

“I don’t want to think about that,” Mace said, looking back at Millie.

Millie saw Mace looking at her. His face looked worried and somewhat scared. The conversation looked heated. She wondered what they were talking about. Millie slowly continued to eat her breakfast as she watched Mace and Teal.

All of a sudden, Millie’s body shook with surprise. There was a black object standing in front of her. Her eyes looked up and she saw Zeke standing there.

“What are you doing here?” Millie said, trying to whisper.

She saw Mace and Teal now staring at them. They started running.

“We have to go,” Zeke said, picking up Millie.

The tray of food crashed onto the chair. Before Mace and Teal could get to them, Zeke was carrying Millie and they were in the air. Millie was dazed and confused about what was happening. His arms were hot on her body, and his black hair went wild in the wind. He was wearing a black singlet with long, black pants. They were going through the air at such a rapid pace that Millie’s eyes became watery. She squinted and looked behind them. She couldn’t see Mace or Teal. Thoughts went racing through her mind. What had happened to them? Were they hurt? Was Zeke too quick for them? Had Zeke kidnapped me?

The wind was rushing at her face, and she couldn’t breathe. She didn’t want to, but she turned her head into Zeke’s chest. His chest was hot, which made Millie’s cheeks flush red, but she could finally breathe again. Her heart was beating rapidly, with every heartbeat growing louder and louder. Her palms started to sweat from the heat of Zeke’s body. She was nervous, scared, and afraid.

All of a sudden, she felt a hard jolt. She opened her eyes, and to her surprise, they were on land. Zeke put her down. She felt sand in between her toes. There was a slight, cold breeze that ran across her face. Her hands tightly held onto the sheet around her. She turned to face Zeke.

“What . . . ?” Millie blurted out in shock. She couldn’t figure out the right words to say. Her thoughts wouldn’t calm down.

“I’m sorry I had to do that, Millie. They literally came seconds after I grabbed you,” Zeke said, looking sad. “I’m sorry if I frightened you. I didn’t want to see you get hurt.”

“Just let me get my thoughts together,” Millie said as she clenched her head with her hand. She walked around in a circle, trying to think.

“Where are Mace and Teal?” Millie blurted out, walking back towards Zeke.

“Cillian and Mischa came seconds after we left. They are probably in a battle as we speak.”

“A battle? Why didn’t you warn them?” Millie yelled.

“I didn’t find out in time to warn everyone. I’m sorry. I just wanted to keep you safe.”

“How am I supposed to be safe if my Protector dies? Who will protect me then?” Millie said, pushing Zeke’s shoulders with one hand whilst the other held onto the sheet that wrapped around her body.

He barely moved. “If all comes to worse, I will protect you, Millie.”

“Why would you do that? If Drake found that out, he would be furious. He would want to kill you, Zeke,” Millie said, trying to fight back tears. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. Her mouth spoke without her brain even thinking.

“You don’t even need to be thinking about this. Mace and Teal have defeated them before. I’m sure they will be safe,” Zeke said, trying to comfort Millie. He placed his hand on her shoulder but she shrugged it off.

“What happens if this is the time when they don’t survive? It would be your fault for not knowing sooner,” Millie said furiously.

“I’m sorry that I didn’t find out sooner. It was a surprise attack. If I knew earlier, I would have told you guys as soon as possible,” Zeke said, not knowing how to calm her down.

“Why are you even warning us when they attack? Aren’t you supposed to be on their side? After all, you did drag me to Hell,” Millie said, taking deep breaths to try and get a grip on herself.

“If I could take back bringing you to Hell, I would, but then I never would have met you,” Zeke said, stepping closer to Millie.

Millie looked up at Zeke. He was standing close.

“Answer my other questions,” she said, hesitantly stepping backward.

“The only reason I fell was because of the temptation. Lucifer described Hell as if it were better than Heaven. You could have any human being you wanted. You could be as powerful as you wanted. After I got over the pleasure of becoming a Fallen, I soon found out that Hell was a disturbed place. But I couldn’t become an Angel of the Lord again, so I learned to live as a Fallen.”

Millie stared at Zeke in silence.

“I got over the rewards of becoming a Fallen after a while, but I longed to become good again. Maybe this is my chance to become an Angel of the Lord once more,” Zeke said, standing there motionless.

“So that’s why you’re protecting me? So you can become an Angel of the Lord again?” Millie asked, confused.

“It’s a stupid idea. It has never been done before, but maybe it can happen,” Zeke said, looking hopeful. “But that’s not the main reason I am protecting you.”

“What do you mean?” Millie asked curiously.

“The first time I saw you in Hell, somehow you brightened up the dim, darkened room. You looked absolutely petrified, but somehow you still looked beautiful. I was stunned at first, but I kept doing my job. For some strange reason, you weren’t scared of me, which I didn’t understand. It killed me watching Drake hurting you, but there was nothing I could have done. I am sorry for that,” Zeke said as Millie stood there in shock.

“After the first time I met you, deep down inside of me, I felt a feeling that I have never felt before. I didn’t understand it at first, but now I do,” Zeke said, stepping closer to Millie.

Millie’s heart quickened as her breathing became faster.

“I’m in love with you, Millie,” he said as he put his hand on Millie’s cheek. Millie was stunned. She didn’t know what to do. How could he love me? He hardly knows me. Her body started to shake with nerves. Her th
oughts were running through her mind at such a fast rate that she didn’t even realise Zeke’s hand was alarmingly hot on her cheek. She was scared of what was coming next.

“I’m sorry about our first kiss. I wish it hadn’t been in those circumstances but my kiss did return your soul back to your body. I know that you have strong feelings towards Mace, but you can always tell that you’re truly in love with someone by a kiss,” Zeke said, taking a nervous deep breath.

He then tilted his head towards Millie. Millie didn’t know what to do. Should I pull back? Should I let Zeke kiss me to find out if I truthfully have any strong feelings towards him? Zeke leant in, and she closed her eyes. What am I doing? She thought to herself. I just made love to the man I am in love with and now I’m going to let Zeke kiss me? Millie could feel his breath on her lips. She was about to open her eyes and push Zeke away from her when Millie heard a loud thud in front of her and felt a gust of wind.

Millie opened her eyes. Zeke was gone. She looked to her left and saw Zeke and Mace skidding along the sand. Millie felt horrified. Mace had seen them about to kiss. Without even thinking, she started to run after them. Her legs ran as fast as they could. They had finally stopped skidding across the sand, and Mace was on top of Zeke, hitting him. In an instance, Zeke threw Mace off him and he landed in the water. Mace’s face was filled with fury. Millie ran as fast as she could towards them. She didn’t want either of them to get hurt.

All of a sudden, Teal appeared in front of Millie. He held out his arms to stop her. Millie ran straight into them anyway. Her legs couldn’t stop running.

“Teal, let me go!” Millie shouted.

“No, I won’t. If you come between them, you might get in the way and become seriously injured.”

“I don’t care. I need to stop them,” Millie said, trying to pry Teal’s arms off her, but he was too strong.

She whined and kicked, but Teal didn’t even flinch. Millie watched hopelessly as Mace and Zeke fought right in front of her eyes.

“Stop it!” Millie screamed out to them.

They acted like they didn’t even hear her. Tears came to Millie’s eyes. She felt powerless. She kept watching them, trying to fight back tears. It was David all over again.
