“Only just about? I worked all night on this hairstyle.”

He kissed her and laughed. “You are an amazing sight. I don’t care what your hair looks like.”

“Hang on, I’ll get some coffee going.”

Nick kept one arm around her waist and ran his hand over her static-filled hair with the other. “I think you deserve a little break. I know it’s your house and you are perfectly capable of making coffee, even fixing a full Ploughman’s Breakfast if you want to, but I can do it and give you the time to get a nice long shower.”

Perri started to resist, the entrenched etiquette of the guest not doing the work threatened to override her desire to take advantage of the offer, but Nick’s persuasion won out in the end. She wanted to stop viewing him as a ‘guest’ in her house and maybe this was a start. “Thank you, very much, like you don’t know how much.”

“Take your time. It’ll be ready when you are.”

Perri turned and headed to the bathroom, smiling, but she turned and went back to Nick and gave him a hug. “I’m so glad you’re here.”

“Me too. But, I have to say, next time you go on an adventure, can you take me with you?”

  “That, sir, is a deal!”

  About the Author

My longstanding interest in Genealogy first reared its head when I was around twelve years old. I started asking family members questions about the past after seeing some old photos, which included my Great-Great-Grandfather’s Civil War portrait, which is the photo used on the cover of this book. I was fascinated. Being an avid history lover, my fascination with the stories our own pasts have to tell us has continued to grow over the years. I’ve spent the last couple of decades searching for information, documents, headstones, anything I can find to learn more about who my ancestors were and where they came from. There are many intriguing stories in our family trees; ferreting them out is just part of the fun. Adventure can be close to home.

Once again, thank you to my husband, Greg for his support. A big thank you to my daughter, Ivy Widick, for accompanying me over the years on many journeys through fields and forests, battling brambles and bugs to search cemeteries for stones that we weren’t sure existed.
