Sweet Backlash

Melony hopped of the bed, her firm ass bouncing once and catching his attention. "Gotta pee," she threw over her shoulder as she hastened to the bathroom.
She disappeared around the corner of the closet, and Chip froze. He couldn't imagine his life without her. He scowled. He was a man. He could handle living alone. He'd done it for eight years now.
The toilet flushed and his heart did a jolt at the thought of her coming into view. He sighed when she walked in and flopped on the bed. Her breasts did an alluring jiggle. She simply watched him, waiting patiently. Too patiently. Was she a saint all of a sudden? A devil just days ago, and now an angel?
She drove him to distraction. He shook his head and smiled. He'd spent the past twelve years avoiding romantic relationships. Into his life walked Melony, and he couldn't think of anything else. He'd never met anyone like her, and he never would. It presented an opportunity he would be a fool to overlook.
He imagined her large with babe. His baby. His heart skipped a beat and love swelled to fill the space. She was a beautiful woman, but pregnant, she'd be stunning to behold. After all she'd faced, she'd make an amazingly strong, protective, and intelligent mother. If she carried their household the way she carried her responsibilities at work, she'd make an amazing wife and partner, too.
Joining her on the bed, he laid his hand across her bellybutton. "No, that wouldn't be such a bad thing."
Crooking her finger, she gave him a coy look and said, "Then come here and let's do it again. It was incredible, and I can't wait to see if the second time is as good as the first."
He chuckled. "It'll be better. First, I need to ask you something."
Her eyes brightened as he arched her eyebrows. Chip loved the new lightness in her. Taking her hand, he drew her off the bed. He went to his knee and said, "Melony, I don't want to spend another day without you by my side. I can't believe it, but in such a short time, you've come to mean the world to me. I don't care if you tie me up every day for the rest of our lives, I want you to do it as my wife. Marry me, Melony, and make me the luckiest, happiest man on earth."
Her lips parted a second before she covered them with her free hand. "Are you serious?"
"I've never been more serious about anything." He held his breath.
She stared at him, saying nothing. Agonizing disappointment began to form a boulder in his stomach.
Lowering her hand, she closed her lips. The corners of her mouth curved slightly, and then she nodded. "Yes, Chip. I'll marry you."
Joy like nothing he'd ever experienced blossomed in his chest. Leaping up, he grabbed her into a bear hug and swung her around. "You said my name." She laughed and he kissed her. "Don't think I didn't notice. You haven't said my name a single time."
When her feet landed, she gave a sassy chortle. "I have so."
"Uh-uh. 'Mr. Albemarle' doesn't count. Say it again."
"Chip." She poked him in the chest. "Chip, Chip, Chip."
"You're turning me on," he half-teased.
"Then what are you waiting for? We've got unfinished business." Sauntering to the bed, she sent him a come-hither glance over her shoulder.
"I like the way your mind works." He followed and stretched out partly atop her. "How about we take our lunch hour at work tomorrow and shop for a ring?"
"I don't care about a ring. I have your heart. Now I have mine, too, which I offer to you." She grew serious and combed her fingers through his short hair. She lowered her eyes and pressed her lips together. "If you're really set on the idea of jewelry shopping, I wouldn't want to stand in your way. Let's make this a long engagement, though, okay?"
He released a breath he hadn't realized he held. "I love you."
"I love you." Placing a palm on each of his cheeks, she brought him close for a kiss to seal their promise, and to begin their happily ever after.
