Rose's Cowboys Page 10

by Starla Kaye

“You’ve been working hard all week. You need a break away.”

She did, but she also wanted to…

Two dust-coated, over-sized pickup trucks pulled up on either side of Victoria’s car. Her heart began thudding in her chest so hard she felt slightly faint. The men she’d desperately wanted to see were here. Her body grew instantly warm with desire. She’d missed them so much.

“Yum and Yummier,” Victoria teased as she climbed out at the same time the cowboys got out of their trucks.

Yum? Yummier? True enough. She hadn’t completely sorted through her feelings other than to know she lusted after both of them. Did she want more than that? She’d wanted children some day, a husband to share her life with. But could she walk away from these two and find a man who wanted a wife and family? Or could she settle for simply loving these men? She did love them, each one a bit differently.

Could they love her? Could she settle for a relationship without love, at least from their side?

“We need to talk,” Doug stated in a no-nonsense manner, all dominant alpha. He gave Victoria a dismissing glance and headed straight for Rose.

Her stomach knotted. His expression when he focused on her was resolute. Had he come to tell her it had been nice, but… Gawd, he looked so “hot,” so sexy.

Camden caught up with Doug, his expression equally somber. “Now. We need to talk now.”

“I was going to convince her to go with me to Denver for the weekend,” Victoria said half-heartedly. But she was watching the determined cowboys as much as Rose was. She didn’t give Rose another chance to refuse. Instead she got back into her car. “Looks like you’ll be busy.”

“Wait…” Rose started, but really didn’t want to stop her from leaving.

Doug took the keys out of her hand and unlocked the library.

Camden took her by the elbow and guided her inside. His grip on her arm was firm but gentle and his touch sent tingles all the way to her toes.

As Doug was closing the door, they all heard Victoria call out, “Be careful with her, boys.”

  Automatically they both countered, “Men.”

Rose found her first real smile in days. “So, men, what’s this all about?”

Suddenly the two powerful-looking cowboys who had seemed so set on some kind of a showdown outside were fidgeting uneasily. Doug pulled off his hat and ran a hand through his scruffy hair. He glanced anxiously at Camden, who was concentrating on his scuffed boots.

“Well?” she pressed, nervous, too. “I’m not good at relationships. I already told you that.”

Doug was wearing out the brim of his hat by curling it and uncurling it. The furrow between his eyebrows dug in deeper. He seemed at a loss for what to say.

Camden drew in a breath and met her gaze. “Darlin’, Doug and I are even worse at them.” Then he frowned. “Wait! That’s not what I meant.”

She gave him a weak smile. “That whole mouth moving before the brain kicks in thing?” She remembered what he’d said that memorable Saturday. “You need to work on that.”

“Will you help me with the problem?” He hazarded a tentative grin, hope in his eyes. “It might take you a while.”

Her heart raced. “Maybe I could help.”

Doug stepped up to her. Such need filled his handsome, troubled face. He was letting her see his vulnerable side. She almost cried at that realization. “Camden’s not the only one who needs you.”

They needed her. Both of them had rounded up enough courage to come face her again. She was smiling on the inside, trying to stay calm on the outside. “We barely know each other. Other than in the hot and naughty way, that is,” she said, desperate to lighten the moment, make it easier for them.

Every second of that time had replayed over and over in her dreams. From the heat in Camden’s eyes, he’d thought about it, too. Even Doug appeared to remember it; his nostrils flared.

Her face heated but she said, “I’m still learning about that kind of thing. And it might take some time for me to get it right.” She focused on Doug for a second. “I’ve been researching, too.”

One corner of his mouth lifted in a sexy way, making her stomach flutter. “Maybe we can compare what we’ve learned.”

“Hey!” Camden protested. “Not fair. Just because I’m not computer savvy.”

“How about we all explore this together?” she suggested. “If you’re interested, that is.”

Camden’s grin spread clear up to his eyes. “Damn straight I’m interested!”

Her heart fluttered, hope swelled within her. She focused on Doug. “You?”

“That’s why we’re here, Sweet Rose.” He settled his hat on her head and gave her a gentle smile. “We came to claim you, for both of us.” He reached around to pull her hair free from the clip, ran his fingers through it. “Sure glad we didn’t have to do a lot of convincing. I’m not really good with words.”

“But you’re real good with your hands.” Her nipples were already growing hard in anticipation.

Camden walked up behind her, cupped her bottom, and then pressed the hard ridge of his erection against her. “I’ve got some talents, too, darlin’.”

Her pulse raced and she had trouble standing still sandwiched between her two lovers. She wiggled her butt against him, enjoying his quiet groan. “That you do, cowboy.”

“Ready to go home with us?” Doug asked huskily, bending down to nibble at the side of her neck.

Her thoughts were quickly scattering into the wind as she trembled. She wasn’t sure where they were headed for the long run, but was more than willing to take this one step at a time. Figuring out how to love two men wasn’t going to be easy. Probably it wouldn’t be all that easy for two such strong-willed men to figure out how to share—hopefully love—one woman, either.

Excitement thrumming through her, she eased away from both men. “Stocked up on condoms?”

“Got enough for now,” Doug said, appearing a bit worried now that he thought about it.

“We’ll be buying them by the case,” Camden added, grinning and then scooping her into his arms.

She giggled at Doug’s disgruntled look. “You can carry me into Camden’s house.”

“Into our house,” he corrected, grinning now. “We decided to take over a slightly bigger house on the ranch property. We even have an extra bedroom for you for when we get on your bad side.”

Camden carried her toward the door. “Not that something like that will ever happen. Seeing as we’re such easy-to-getalong-with men.”

  Doug snorted.

“Maybe it will be me who gets on your bad side.”

Showing more of his rare light side, Doug teased, “I hear that make-up sex can be seriously hot.”

“So, since we haven’t been together for a while,” Camden said, stepping out onto the sidewalk, “maybe we should start with make-up sex.”

Rose glanced nervously around to make sure nobody was outside overhearing them. Relieved that they were alone, she leaned up to lightly bite Camden’s neck. “I’m for it.”

Doug locked the door and raced to his truck. “First one home gets to…”

Camden put her down and sprinted to his truck, dragging her along. “Hurry up and get in! I’m not losing to him.”

She was smiling so hard her face hurt. She didn’t know what life would be like with these two, but it was going to be a challenge. Yippee cayee, cowgirl!
