Flutter (The Discover Series)

His smile was slow and seductive and I shivered under the impact. “You’re going to be the death of me spitfire, but damn if it isn’t a hell of a way to go.”
“I love when you call me that.” I confessed.
It didn’t matter anymore why he called me that. I loved the way it sounded coming from him.
Our breathing was coming out in soft heavy pants, the currents growing between us. They spread through our bodies just like he said: a slow fire burning. His eyes grew dark and hungry, and with unspoken words, he promised a pleasure so intense I nearly dissolved right here in the water.
“Can water catch fire?” I asked, looking around, half expecting the water to be boiling. My body felt flushed. My skin was hot to the touch.
“Spitfire, with you, anything’s possible.” His words were a silky caress that chased goosebumps across my skin.
“I think you give me too much credit for this.” I said, referring to the sizzling connection between us. “Is it just me, or is it suddenly really hot?”
His laugh was deep and husky. “Don’t expect that to change anytime soon. It only gets hotter from here.”
“I’m having a hard time deciding if that’s a threat or promise.”
“You’re in luck. It’s the best of both words.” He shifted our bodies, bringing me closer, sending small ripples to tease the calm surface of the water.
I took a deep breath. “I think this is the reason Andres seemed so apprehensive for me to come with you today. I think he can sense…our connection too.”
Adan didn’t look surprised when he asked. “He didn’t want you to come out with me?”
I shook my head, and my hair spiraled into different positions. “Nope.”
“What did he say?”
“He asked a lot of questions. How I knew you? How long we had been seeing each other? What I knew about you? You know, the regular mandatory grown up questions.”
“I’m glad you decided to come anyway. I know things are tense already at home. I hope this doesn’t make it worse.”
I shrugged. “It is what it is.” I changed the subject. “I’m sorry if I ruined your plans today with this.” I waved my hand.
“Are you kidding? I’m having a blast. You should know by now, I don’t care what we’re doing, as long as I’m with you.”
I blushed, suddenly 100% aware of the intimate way our bodies swayed with the rhythm of the water.
“I feel the same way.” I divulged, not feeling the need to avoid my feelings for him any longer.
“Good.” He said softly. “I’m glad.”
He stood up then, and rivers of water trickled over the sun-kissed skin of his chest, before merging down his smooth stomach and disappearing underneath the waistband of his shorts. Again, I had to fight for the ability to breathe, as if it wasn’t something I had been doing since birth. He was a perfect specimen of beauty, muscle and male. There was something else too. Something animalistic in the way he moved and stared at me. It was oddly familiar.
He held out his hand for me to take, looking up into his electric blue eyes, I placed my hand in his and let him effortlessly pull me to my feet and up against him.
“I don’t think you know how dangerous things can get, when you look at me the way you do.” He growled, warningly.
“I thought a little danger never hurt anyone?” I taunted, repeating his words.
He closed his eyes, leaning his forehead into mine. “Sara…” he groaned breathless.
I laughed, pulling him toward dry land. “You realize I don’t have any dry clothes, right?” I told him, as we walked out of the water. I twisted my shirt, wringing out the excess water, as we walked out of the water.
“You should have thought about that before you tried to drown me!” He laughed. “You didn’t think you were slick, did you?”
“Yes I did, actually and I wasn’t trying to drown you!” I exclaimed. It hadn’t occurred to me that he would pull me in with him.
“Come on now, if I was going in, you were going with me.”
He bent over, picking up his shirt. I hadn’t even noticed that he had tossed it away, saving it from a watery grave.
“Obviously.” I said, looking down at my soaked clothes.
“You know there is a solution for that, right?” he asked, and I foolishly missed his suggestive tone.
“Yeah, sun drying.” I flapped the bottom of my shirt, attempting to air it out.
He grabbed my arm, pulling me against him. “I had something a little different in mind.” I blushed, finally catching on.
“Now who thinks they’re slick?”
His laughter echoed off the canyon walls, and I was intoxicated by the sound.
He ran the back of his fingers over the curve of my jaw. “Can’t blame a guy for trying, right?”
“No, but you can tease him for it.” He laughed again
I wrung out my hair, and water splashed off the ground hitting the back of my legs. I found a dry spot to lay out. Tilting my head to the side, I looked up to stare at him. He was looming over me, blocking out a portion of the sun’s glare. I was flooded with the memory of my dream, and being with him here… or at least somewhere similar.
“You can lie next to me,” I told him, “I won’t bite.” I smiled.
He crouched down, resting on his knees. “It’s not you that I’m worried about.”
“You have a problem with biting that I should be aware of? Are you a vampire?” I joked.
A devilish grin spread across his handsome face. “No. Definitely not a vampire.”
“Well then I have nothing to worry about.”
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.” He moved so he was leaning over me, resting his hands on either side of my head. “You’re blood may be safe from me, but I can’t say the same for your neck.” He taunted.
His arm slipped between my waist and the ground, arching my back, lifting me toward him. His fingers from his free hand, snarled in the wet strands of my hair, wrapping around the back of my neck. He tilted my head back, exposing the skin of my neck to his waiting lips.
My breath caught, and a noise –I couldn’t tell if it was sigh, a moan or a combination of the two–escaped my parted lips, when I felt the smooth edges of his teeth nip at the skin where my pulse was throbbing out of control. My fingers dug into the hard flesh of his shoulders as he left a blazing trail across my neck and along the side of my jaw with his scorching lips. Lifting his head, he paused, his lips over mine and he searched my eyes. He was waiting to see if I was going to stop him, when I didn’t move, he smiled.
“I definitely can’t say the same for your lips.”
Without waiting for me to respond, he buried both of his hands in my hair, and then my lips were under his. His lips were charming, his tongue teasing and as a duo, they devoured my mouth. I wrapped my arms around his neck, wanting to be as close to him as I possibly could in that moment. His arms slipped around my waist, helping me with my simple request.
The kiss started out intense, and quickly developed into something far more severe. I could feel the ribbons of energy flowing around us, and the electric currents amplifying out of control, as we were completely consumed by the kiss. My body was humming against his, and with every movement of lips and tongues, each taste of each other, the force grew stronger. My body felt like it was burning from the inside out. The slow ache I felt building inside of me was delicious.
He suddenly seemed to become aware of the situation, and the kiss slowed. He pulled away. Our foreheads touched, and we both tried to calm the heavy sounds of our breathing. My tongue flickered out; to lick my lips and the tip of it touched his bottom lip. He sucked in a deep breath, and laughed.
“I can feel the sparks on your tongue.” He said, closing his eyes.
Did everything he said have to sound so damn sexy?!
He laughed.
“What?” I asked.
“I find everything about you fascinating, Sara.”

p; “As far as first kisses go, that was-”
“Freaking amazing?”
I laughed. “Yes. Exactly.”
If I lived to be a hundred, it would be a kiss that would go down in the history of kisses.
I don’t know how long we stayed like that, but I didn’t care.
It was in that moment that I knew I was dangerously close to falling for Adan.
“Fascinating huh?”
“Fascinating, mesmerizing its hard to tell where one ends and the other begins with you.”
“I have theory about that.” I told him.
“A theory? Please explain.” He said sitting next to me.
“I don’t think people are necessarily fascinated with me, as they are, by me.”
“By you? That’s going to need a little more explaining.”
Turning toward, I curled my legs, holding out my arm in front of him and I thought I saw him stiffen. “It’s okay,” I said with a laugh, “I’m not going to hit you. I’m just going to show you what I mean.”
He looked at me, smiling. “Show away.”
“Don’t you see my skin? What is does?” I twisted my arm back and forth and his shimmered brilliantly under the rays of the sun.
He face went blank and for a second his eyes had no depth. Just like the others, he seemed to be lost in some kind of trance, and then he blinked no longer looking dazed.
“Adan? Are you okay?” I asked, touching his arm.
He looked at me and grinned. “Gotcha.” He said, laughing.
“Ugh!” I scowled at him, hitting him in the arm. He didn’t even bat an eye at the blow.
I moved to get up, but he caught my wrist pulling me against him, falling back so I was leaning over him. My hair fell forward teasing the side of his face, creating a dark curtain around us.
“It was to easy spitfire.” His arm tightened around my waist, bringing me closer to him.
“You’re a punk.” I told him, trying not to be swayed by irresistible gleam in his eyes
“The absolute worst.” He agreed. His dimple deepened under the shift of his grin. “All teasing aside, I find a flaw in your theory.”
“What’s that?” I tried hard to pay attention to his answer, but I was being tempted in another direction.
“You’re saying my attraction to you is an illusion. A trick of the mind because of an effect, and that’s not true. I want you. I find you fascinating because of everything that you are, not because of what you look like.”
His words were poetry to my ears and the ? to the last of my restraint. Leaning forward, my lips found the dip of his dimple and my tongue slipped out, teasing the mark. I heard his breath catch and the low growl emanating from his chest and smiled, becoming braver. My lips found the strong line of his jaw, and my teeth nipped at the edges until I found his chin. Moving along the curve of his neck, my mouth wreaked havoc on the sensitive skin. Biting and tasting until he couldn’t stand it anymore.
He tangled his fingers into my hair, bringing my mouth back to his, whispering hotly against my lips.
“What are you doing to me?” he growled.
“Consuming you. Like a slow fire burning.”
Flutter
Twenty
Darkness
“I had a really good time today Adan.”
We rounded the side of my house moving toward my room so I didn’t have to go through the front door. We were instantly cloaked in darkness and our walking slowed to a snail’s pace.
“Only a good time?” he teased, bumping me with his shoulder.
“No, I mean it. It was really…amazing.” I clasped my hands together.
“So I’ve moved up to amazing status, huh? That was fast.” He teased.
“Isn’t that what you were fishing for?”
“I would have settled for spectacular, life changing, magical.” He counted the list off on his fingers.
“What? No option for ‘all of the above’? How modest of you.” I retorted.
Were we even still walking? I thought.
He laughed. “I’m glad it was amazing.”
“And for you?” I inquired curiously.
“Now who’s fishing?”
“Just shows I’ve been spending way too much time with you. You’re starting to rub off on me.”
He tried to contain his laugh, but looking over at him I could see the mischievous gleam in his eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but the innuendo died on his lips.
“For me,” he said, stopping to look at me, “all of the above Sara.”
The amount of smolder that oozed from his words made my knees weak and I was transfixed by the intensity of his stare.
“You make it hard to breathe when you look at me like that.”
He made a sound resembling a growl. “Me?! You haven’t the faintest idea what you do to me Sara. The amount of control you have over me is scary.”
He tucked a piece of hair that framed my face behind my ear, before trailing his fingers down the side of my neck, and pulling me up against him until there was a seamless line between us. He pressed his forehead against mine, our eyes never leaving one another’s.
“You have no idea how badly I’ve had the urge to kiss you again, and again, and again.” He voice lowered to a whisper.
His eyes dropped to my lips and I nervously chewed on my bottom lip in anticipation. He hadn’t been the only one craving a repeat of our earlier kiss.
“What’s stopping you?” I whispered.
He groaned. “I know you’re worried about how fast we go. I didn’t want to push you to do anything more.”
“How noble of you,” I teased.
His laugh was throaty and I felt his fingers curve around my hip trying to pull me closer.
“Believe me it’s not by choice.”
“So you’ve just been waiting on me?”
“Yes. I wanted to give you time to adjust. How’s that going by the way?”
“I think I’ve adjusted.” I answered honestly.
“Are you sure? There is-”
“Adan.” I cut him off.
“Yeah?”
I pushed up on my tip toes, his lips, a breath away, hovered over mine and I whispered. “Shut up and kiss me.”
It was more than a meeting of the mouths as our lips crushed and twisted together. Tilting his head, he deepened the kiss, his lips persuading mine to open with little effort. His tongue slipped passed my lips to explore the softness of my mouth, teasing the curve of my tongue, and ravishing the inside of my mouth. I knew nothing in my life would ever feel as right as it did when I was kissing Adan.
The kiss went from an intensity of zero to one hundred and eighty within seconds of our lips touching. His thumb stroked my neck, drawing lazy circles over the spot where my pulse was pounding wildly, before his fingers tangled themselves in the strands of my hair. His hand knotted in a fist and he gently tugged on my hair, exposing my neck to his waiting lips.
A whimper escaped my mouth when he lifted his head, breaking the kiss. His lips were at my ear now and I could feel the smile that clung to his lips at my protest.
“Don’t worry, I’m not going far.” He reassured me.
His lips reeked havoc as they flirted with the arch of my neck, leaving warm, breathy, kisses across my neck. His tongue twisted over the same spot his thumb had been earlier and he made a pleased sound as he nibbled where my pulse trembled. He couldn’t seem to control his lips and tongue as they kissed and tasted every bit of exposed flesh.
Gripping his elbows, I tried to steady the slight sway of my body. He was leaving me breathless and before I could catch my breath his mouth found mine again, my head spinning from the sensation. Slipping his arm around my waist, he pulled me tighter against him for added support. He had meant to help, but as I felt the strong muscles of his body against mine, something that had been building inside of me exploded and I was attacked by a million fluttery sensations.
Sparks exploded and sizzled out of con
trol, making my skin sensitive to the touch. I could feel the ribbons of electricity flowing untamed around us. The static charge was building; the air surrounding us was crackling under the pressure. The heat was building, threatening to explode with each twist of his lips, every dip of his tongue. I knew I should be worried, or at the very least cautious, but I couldn’t process anything other than Adan.
He pulled away then, pressing his lips to my forehead, both of us concentrating on breathing again. I wanted to ask him if he had been able to feel the threat of eruption surfacing. He blew out warm puffs of air against my already heated skin and I shivered in response.
“Wow,” he finally said, “you are extremely good at that.”
My whole body flushed even hotter at his words and I buried my flaming face into the curve of his neck as his chest vibrated with laughter.
“After a kiss like that, I should be the one blushing.”
I mumbled into his neck and hit his shoulder lightly, making him laugh out loud. Wrapping his arms around my waist, he lifted me off of the ground, swaying back and forth with me. When he set me down, he pulled back and kissed me softly, and swiftly, on the lips.
“If I don’t get you inside within the next five minutes, that might be our last kiss for a while, and I don’t think I could survive that.”
“A fate worse than death.”
He smiled. “Pretty damn close.”
We took a few steps toward the corner of the house, Adan following behind me. Turning suddenly, I touched his chest, stopping him from following me further.
“What wrong?” He asked.
I tried to answer his question, but all I could think about is the way the hard muscles of his chest felt under my hand, the steady pounding of his heart against my fingertips teasing me. My eyes flickered up to his when the rhythmic beat of his heart began to speed up.
“It’s probably better if you stay here, just in case there is a stakeout being staged in my room right now.”
“An ambush?”
“I wouldn’t put it past Andres. He didn’t seem too excited for me to be going with you today. I don’t know why though.”
