Chasing Fireflies Page 23

I pull up to Leigh’s house with Bear in the truck with me. Adjusting my hat, I step out, taking a breath and shutting the door behind me after he climbs out, too. I look up when the front door opens and out walks Little Miss. She smiles and takes off running, her Superman cape blowing behind her, her pretty brown curls getting in her way. I open my arms as she jumps up. I twirl her around, hugging her to me as tight as I can.

“Daddy, I missed you so much,” her sweet little voice says.

“I missed you more, Little Miss.” I open my eyes and see Leigh and Mark standing by the door. I give them a small wave in thank you as Ellie pulls back and looks at me, her blue eyes pretty as ever, just like her mama’s.

“Are we going to be okay now, Daddy?” she asks.

“Yes, baby, we’re going to be just fine.” I kiss her nose. “Come on. I’ll let you drive,” I say as Bear circles us.

“I don’t drive, Daddy!” She laughs.

“Today you do. Right, Bear?” He barks as I open the door for him to jump in. I climb in, too, placing Little Miss on my lap. “Hold on to the wheel, baby girl. Let’s go home.”

  The End

Look out for Ellie’s story, or as we know her…Little Miss.

  Coming soon! <3

  Acknowledgements

As always, I want to thank you, the reader! Thank you for taking a chance on my writing. Thank you to my girls, Crystal, Monica and Julie for always being eager to read my words. Thanks to my family and Paige, my wonderful editor.

  Just a little note:

So…I know this story was a heartbreaker, but I’m telling you I had to write it. I researched the hell out of bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression. I looked up real stories of people who suffer from it, and I was seriously so shocked and just had no idea the extent of it all. Some of it was terribly, heartbreaking. I cried a lot while writing this book, so please know most of these words came from my soul, and I hope they crawl into yours.

Thanks so much. Lots of love–– Paige P. Horne
