“They made you work for it.” Nick mentioned many times that this business has been ongoing for months. His last trip was when I was sick.

“I think they hoped that they could do it on their own. They didn’t want to admit they needed help. This is still just the preliminary stage once it goes through I’ll feel better. A lot of lawyers at this point.” Nick shifts the car into fifth gear then relaxes his hand on my arm lightly caressing my skin. “So Sunday we fly back to Germany.”

  “You and your father?”

“And Stephen.” Stephen is their lawyer and a long-time friend of Nick’s father. They went to Dartmouth together. I found out later that he was the third man at the meeting when I found out Nick took over DP&T.

“I thought that Friday and Saturday we’ll stay in the city and Sunday morning I’ll drive you back to your house. I'll have the car service pick me up there, this way I can leave my car with you for the week. I usually leave it at my parents; I don’t like leaving it in the parking garage unattended for that long of time.”

“No, I have plenty of room for it. When are you coming back?”

“The following Sunday. I’ll have the car service bring me back here.”

We drive up to my house. “I know I say this every time I pull into your driveway, but I love your house, everything about it.”

“I have, to be honest, I’m enjoying it more now than ever. It’s a good feeling to share something I love. My home makes me very happy.”

“You make me very happy. I feel the same way about sharing my life with you. There is a different energy now behind everything I do.” Nick parks the car and turns to look at me. He moves his hand over my cheek, “I know we met only a short time ago, but I feel like I’ve known you my entire life, Alexandra.”

“I feel the same.” It’s been the craziest few weeks of my life, but I felt like I’ve known Nick a lifetime. People have said over the years that as you mature, you just know when you have met the right one. Maybe this is what they were talking about, but I couldn’t have imagined it would have been a man like Nick, a man eight years younger than me. The closeness I feel with him I have never felt in all my life, with anyone.

I lean in to kiss his mouth.

That evening Nick made the sweetest love. I feel so cared for and I can see a future where I won’t be alone.

  Chapter 12

  Alexandra

Jill stomps into my office and points to my bag on the couch. “What’s in the bag?”

  “Clothes and other essentials.”

“You’re having a sleepover at Nick’s," Jill is comically obtrusive.

  “Yes.”

“This thing is serious?” She sits down in the chair in front of my desk.

  “It’s going that way.”

“Well, I’m happy for you. He better not hurt you.” Jill has always been overprotective of me. She’s dated the same boyfriend since seventh grade. They never talk marriage but Jill doesn’t care because she is devoted to him. She’s only thirty- six years old so she has plenty of time. Bob’s a big guy from Staten Island. He works for an elevator repair union. They do all the big jobs in the city.

“Jill, Nick’s not that kind of guy.”

“Well, I hope not. I worry. You know he’s so fucking good looking, great body, tall, loaded, they are always the one’s that fuck up.”

I can’t help but laugh at Jill’s account of Nick. “Well, I agree he’s all of those things but he’s a decent guy.”

“Well, if he steps out of line, you let me know, I’ll tell Bob.”

I giggle as I think about what Bob could do to Nick. Nick is tall and muscular but Bob is massive in every direction. Jill always complains they can’t find clothes that fit him. He shops at those big and tall stores.

I startle when Nick expectantly walks into my office. He wears jeans and a slate gray t-shirt. His wavy dark hair loosely hangs over his ears. He looks younger out of his suit and I become aware of the eight years I have on him.

  “It’s five already?”

“No, I’m early that’s why I came up.”

Jill must not be at her desk because she would have somehow tried to interrupt us already. “Did you see Jill wandering around out there?”

“No, I didn’t see her.” Nick comes closer and swiftly kisses my mouth. “Do you need a few minutes?”

  “No, I'll pack it up.”

Jill strolls into my office. “All the girls out there are giggling and chatting it up so I thought you might have a guest.” Jill walks towards Nick with her hand stretched out. “Hi, Nick good to see you again. You’re taking our girl somewhere nice tonight I hope?”

Nick smiles, gives me a quick glance, shakes Jill’s hand and responds, “Yes, Jill, I have a very nice evening planned for our girl. Do you have plans tonight?”

“Bob and I frequent a local watering hole every Friday night. We play darts, everyone shows up. It’s a fun time.”

  “Bob?” Nick questions.

  “My boyfriend.”

“It sounds like fun.” Nick is all politeness

“Yeah, maybe you and Alex can come out one night, it will be a good time. The only time Alex showed up in Staten Island was for my parent’s anniversary party.”

I interrupt, “Jill let’s pack it up, let’s get out of here.” I know if I don’t stop her now this conversation could go on and on. And though I know it will entertain, I want this day over with so I can begin my night with Nick.

Nick carries my bag as we walk to his brownstone. I’m excited to see how he lives. It’s a telling sign how a single man lives. Will it be decorated, or will it be just the bare essentials? Does he have nightstands on both sides of the bed, or only one on his side, or none? Will there be a full working kitchen complete with pots and pans or a recycling bin full of takeout containers? Knowing the man, his home will be professionally decorated with all the bells and whistles.

“This is it.” Nick opens the wrought iron gate that leads to a small pathway up to the front door. He stands aside for me to enter first.

“It’s beautiful. It' s been renovated.”

“Yes, I had it done over two years ago. I can't wait for you to see the inside; I think you’ll like it? I hope you will like it.”

Nick unlocks the door and takes my hand as we walk into the foyer. “I tried to refurbish as much as I could.”

“I can see, the floors look original.”

“They are and so is the staircase.”

“I love all the exposed brick.” I am pleased to see the man has serious taste. A man can dress impeccably with the help of a personal shopper, but how he lives is a whole other story.

Nick takes my hand and walks me into the kitchen. Marble covers every flat surface. “So now I’ll ask you the same question you asked me, do you like to cook?”

“I love to cook, and I’m a great cook, but I have to admit I haven’t made the time to do it over the years.” He wraps his arms around my waist. “So you approve?”

  “Nick it’s breathtaking.”

“Good, it means a lot to me that you like it.” Nick takes my hand again and brings me back out to the front of the house. “I’ll show you my bedroom and you can shower or change, whatever you want to do.” The original staircase curves at a landing and curves again to the second floor. As we stand at the top we can look down into the first floor.

At the end of the hallway there are two large French doors, “My bedroom is through these doors.” As I walk in, I can’t help but gasp. There is a king size bed flanked by two large nightstands. An ornate chandelier hangs over the bed. I point up to the fixture, “Is that original?”

“Yes it was downstairs in the foyer, but I felt it worked better up here.”

“I agree. I love it.” His home is a perfect blend of masculine touches with an exquisite modern feel.

Nick takes my hand, and brings me into the bathroom.

My mouth drops open as I look around. The bathroom is just as big as hi
s bedroom. There is a large glass enclosure. Shower jets on every wall and a large soaking tub is enclosed in the glass enclosure. Along the outside wall is a sitting area with a flat screen television hanging on the wall.

  “It’s incredible. Where’s the toilet?”

Nick points to a door off to the back of the bathroom, “Behind there.”

I giggle, “You thought of everything.”

Nick smiles and turns to face me, “So what would you like to do? Shower, bathe?”

“I would like to freshen up. I’ll take a quick shower.”

Nick shows me how everything works and leaves fresh towels on the sofa in the bathroom. “I’ll open a bottle of wine. White?”

“Yes please.” I feel like a princess. My home is beautiful with an easy feel, like being on a tropical island vacation. Nick’s house resembles a five star hotel, pure decadence.

Nick turns me around, unzips my dress, and places a light kiss between my shoulder blades. “Let me know if you need anything.”

I enter his bedroom, unpack my small bag, lay my clothes out on the bed and take my toiletry bag into the bathroom. I wrap my hair up in a bun and step into the shower. I feel small in this huge space. I close my eyes as the water cascades down my body and become aroused as I think of Nick showering in this space.

When I open my eyes Nick sits on the couch staring at me, two glasses of wine on the table in front of him. I stare back but don’t move. I wait to see what he will do. Nick stands up, removes his clothes, tosses them on the other end of the couch and then sits back down. He is rock hard. He wraps his hand around his erection and slowly works up and down the shaft while watching me shower.

I take the sponge with body wash and spread it over my skin.

Nick takes in a deep breath as he tilts his head back though his eyes don’t leave my body. He continues stroking himself. I drop the sponge and circle my clit with my fingers while pinching and pulling my hardened nipple with the other. I close my eyes and tilt my head back enjoying everything I feel especially Nick’s eyes on me.

The draft from the shower door opening prompts me to open my eyes. Nick stands in the shower holding his rock hard cock. I stop touching myself, and wait as Nick moves closer. We face each other and I lean in and kiss his neck. I glide my hands down his sides and I bend at my knees kissing his stomach the whole way down. I replace his hand with my mouth. I take all of him deep in my throat and move forward and backwards manipulating the tip. Sucking on his cock becomes more about my enjoyment than his. He is long and thick and the salty taste of his pre-cum makes me want more. With my hand firmly wrapped around him, my hand follows my mouth working his entire length.

Nick’s hands move through my hair and his voice is raw, uncontrolled. “Alex, what are you doing? You are going to make me come. I don’t want to. Not yet.” Nick lets out an intense moan and pulls me up. He moves me up against the wall and lifts my one leg around him as he thrusts deep inside me. His other hand rests behind my head protecting it from the tile wall. He pounds hard, very hard. I unravel.

“Open your eyes.” His voice is deep and rough. He stares in my eyes and I feel him coming long and hard filling me. He stays inside of me as he kisses my face then moves his mouth over my neck while his hand tilts my neck back as he moves around it with his mouth. He stops and leans his forehead into mine. “I want you, now.”

“You just had me.” I say.

“That’s not what I mean.” There is a towel draped over the tub. Nick folds it and drops it at my feet. He kneels down, and sits back on his heels in front of me. He kisses my stomach then my hips, then reaches down, lifts my foot from the shower floor, and places it on his thigh. His mouth glides over my seam until his tongue finds my clit. My fingers move through his wet hair and I relax back on the tile wall. The feeling is intense as he sucks my clit. His tongue, his lips, and the slight stubble on his jaw send me into frenzy. Then just as I’m about to lose it, his fingers move deep inside of me. I feel my eyes rolling back in my head. Convulsing uncontrollably, calling out his name I orgasm. I drop to my knees facing him and lean into his body. We fall into each other and let our bodies absorb the pleasure.

Nick waits downstairs while I finish getting ready. I hear him talking to someone as I walk downstairs, Nick looks up at me with the phone up to his ear, “Mom, I have to go, I’ll call you before I leave on Sunday. I will. I’ll ask her.”

Nick wraps his arms around me and rubs my bottom. “Are these leather leggings?” Nick takes an exasperated breath in. “How am I going to get through tonight?”

“I’m glad you're pleased, Mr. Ryan.”

“Pleased isn’t the right the word.” Nick takes my hand and moves it over him…he’s rock hard.

  “I’m sorry.”

  “Don’t be. It’s a constant since I’ve met you.”

We take a leisurely walk to the restaurant. It’s a beautiful summer evening with a warm breeze. Nick holds my hand telling me about the conversation he had with his mother. “My mother hasn’t seen us all together in a while. She wants us to have dinner when I get back from Germany. I’d like you to come with me.”

I realize I never asked Nick if he had siblings, or anything about his family. I know his dad but that's the extend of it. Having no family of your own, you forget that other people have family. “How many siblings do you have?”

  “Four.”

I swallow hard, “Your mom had five children.”

  “And my dad.” Nick laughs.

“I know I always think about the mom, because she’s the one who gives birth.” I cringe as I recall stories of childbirth and the excruciating pain. “Five times.”

“She would have had more, but they never got pregnant again.” Nick brings my hand up to meet his lips as we wait to cross the street.

“So tell me about your siblings?” The light changes and we cross the street.

“There’s Ana, the youngest at 28. Andrew is 38, James is 41 and Julia is 44.”

“Are any of them married?” It’s so odd to hear Nick talk about his big family, especially since I have no family. His life is the opposite of mine.

We arrive at the restaurant before Nick answers my question. A pudgy young girl with a sweet face greets us. She knows Nick by name, “Mr. Ryan, How are you this evening?”

“Doing well Angela.” Nick wraps his arm around me, “Angela, this is my girlfriend Alexandra.”

Angela reaches her hand out, “Nice to meet you Alexandra.”

I extend my hand and smile back.

“I’ll show you to your table, or would you like to go to the bar first?”

“Table, we’re ready to eat.” Nick doesn’t hesitate. I follow Angela as Nick follows behind me.

“Would you like your usual rolls to start?” She asks Nick as she places menus down on the table in front of Nick.

“Yes, Thank you Angela. And some Saki, please.” Angela steps away and Nick hands me a menu.

“You come here often?” I ask. Every restaurant I’ve been to with Nick has been incredible and everyone knows him.

“They have the best, the freshest sushi, you’ll see, it will become your favorite place, too.”

Nick reaches across the table and takes my hand in both of his. He lists off some of his favorites from the menu and tells me to choose whatever I’d like. I add two other rolls to his usual list.

Angela comes back with cups and warm Saki. She writes the rest of our order on a small white pad and turns to leave. Nick leans in and pours us each a cup of Saki.

“So what were we talking about?” Nick asks.

“Your family. Are any of your siblings married?”

“Yes. Andrew, James, and Julia are all married. Julia has three children, James has one and Andrew has one on the way.”

Wow! His family keeps getting bigger. It’s as if Nick reads my mind.

“Alex, don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. I know it’s overwhelming but you’ll fit in.”

I stop for a minute to assess what’s bothering me. Is it Nick’s large family? Or is it my age? Though Nick has said he doesn’t want children that could change, as he gets older. I’m sure his parents wish for him to have a family of his own. I mean they had five kids and now grandchildren. It’s obviously something very important to them.

  “Alex, what are you thinking?”

“Nothing, I’m okay. You’re right I’ll get use to it.”

Angela comes to the table with a man following behind her with a large tray. She places a rainbow of sushi on the table. My eyes widen as I look at Nick. “Don’t worry we’ll eat it all.” He assures me.

Nick and I feast on sushi. He is correct this place is now my favorite sushi place, and we had no problem finishing it all. Nick settles the bill, stands, and reaches for my hand. “Central Park?”

The music was beautiful. It was a young orchestra, but they did an excellent job. It was the perfect summer night for a concert in the park but I’m relieved to be back at Nick’s home. It has been a long week and all I want to do is sleep. As we move around Nick’s bedroom, it’s evident that Nick is exhausted when he yawns multiple times. We say little to each other while we brush our teeth and wash our faces. Nick and I stand on either side of his king size bed, both of us naked. He looks so far away. We pull back the duvet, lift the covers together, and slide in. Nick moves close to me and pulls me towards him. He kisses the top of my head, “Goodnight love.”

That’s the last thing I remember that night.

We had a beautiful weekend together. Right after Nick locks the door to his brownstone, he turns to me and thanks me. "I enjoyed last night. It was nice to use my kitchen.” He says. Nick and I cooked together last night. After we ate, we lounged on his couch and talked. It was a quiet evening just him and me. Though we were in bed early, we didn’t go to sleep right away. We lay in bed talking and then we made love, good old fashion love making, me on the bottom, Nick on top.
