The Yes Girl
Page 16
It’s Sunday morning, and the city has a beautiful calm to it as we drive down the almost empty streets towards the West Side Highway. Nick has said little since we left the apartment. He seems to be in deep thought but when he turns onto the highway, he breaks his silence.
“When we get married, I’d like to keep your house and my brownstone. I like having a place to stay in the city.”
My body stays still. I don’t even turn my head to look at him. I stare straight ahead as I absorb what Nick suggested. I hope he doesn’t feel a need for me to respond but I have no such luck, “Do you agree?”
I stick with a simple, “Yes.”
Nick laughs and takes my hand in his and pulls it towards his side. “Relax Alexandra. We’re not getting married tomorrow, but I will marry you, so don't make other plans.”
I swallow hard, “If I like it or not.” Nick’s wicked grin telling me he wants to do very dirty things to me spreads across his face.
“You’ll like it.” He responds.
I am in deep thought for the rest of the ride home. As crazy as it seems to have this conversation of marriage after such a short time it also seems very obvious. Nick and I have no pretense. We have been exactly who we are right from the beginning. I am my introverted, awkward self and Nick has been his confident, open, honest self. I have told him my darkest thoughts, and he didn’t run. We are equal in success. His success has brought him greater wealth, but my success has let me live a more than comfortable life. He has no interest in children, and I am probably too old to get pregnant with any ease and I have no interest in taking measures to get pregnant.
Nick interrupts my thoughtful deliberations. “The driver is coming at four, I’d thought we’d just hang by the pool, I’ll barbecue, we’ll have sex.”
I laugh, “In that order?”
“Well, not exactly, the urge to make love to you could happen at anytime, even multiple times, so we’ll play it by ear.”
I laugh again, “Okay, by ear it is.”
Chapter 13
Alexandra
Four o’clock came quickly. I stand in my driveway waving to Nick as they drive away. I’m going to miss him and though it's only a week, I've gotten used to spending time with him. I walk back into my house when Nick’s car is out of sight.
Just as I grab my phone off the counter and walk into my bedroom, a notification signal goes off. It’s a new text message from Nick.
I already miss you. This will be a hard week being away from you.
I text him back.
I thought the same thing. Be safe and call, text, or email me when you land. xx
Nick responds: I will. xxx.
Nick called me when he landed. Every day after that he either sent a text or emailed me and when I was at work he called the office. He never called me at home because of the time difference. He wanted me to get my sleep. I miss him and can’t wait to see him on Sunday.
His most recent text read:Just got off the plane, see you soon.
I try to concentrate on my book, but I read the same page over and over. When I can’t take the anticipation any longer the doorbell rings… he’s here. I open the door and jump into his arms.
“Baby you feel so good.” He covers me in kisses and I reciprocate.
“God how I missed you.” I step back and look at him and let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad you’re home.”
He walks in and drops his bags in the foyer. “Baby, I feel airplane disgusting, I’m going to take a fast shower and then I’m going to fuck you. I’ve been jerking off to thoughts of your body all week, now I need the real thing.”
I smile like a giddy schoolgirl. “Okay, go shower and then fuck me senseless.”
Nick caresses the side of my face as he kisses me long and hard on the mouth. “I’ll be a few minutes. Do you have a cold beer?”
“I’ll bring it in to the bathroom for you.”
Nick walks out of the bathroom with his towel hanging low on his waist and his beer in hand.
“Feel better?” I ask him as I place my bookmark in that page I’ve read ten times over.
“Starting to.” Nick removes his towel and lets it drop to the floor. He places his beer bottle on top of the magazine on the nightstand. “Alex, all week I thought about your body, one thing in particular.”
“Okay.” I answer breathlessly, as I’m already beyond aroused.
Nick takes a seat in the oversized chair in the corner. “Come here and stand in front of me.” I walk over and stand in front of him. “Take off your clothes.”
I stand naked in front of him while he sits and stares at me. He strokes his erection while his eyes move up and down my body. “Alexandra, come closer to me and turn around.”
Again, I do as I’m told. I can’t see Nick but his hand caresses my behind. With the side of his hand, he strokes forward and backward in between my legs. “Alexandra, bend over, grab your ankles, and don’t let go.”
Again, I do as I’m told. I feel vulnerable and free all at the same time.
Nick grabs onto my hips. I gasp as I feel his tongue move between my legs and in and out of me. His other hand comes between my arm and hip. His fingers circle my clit while his tongue continues working inside of me. The feeling is unbearable. I grip tighter on my ankles hoping to gain control. The vulnerability of this position makes everything I feel more intense, I need to come. Just as the build up is too much Nick sticks a wet finger in my ass and that is my undoing. My legs shake as my orgasm takes over my body. Nick stands, turns me and bends me over the chair. Nick slams his dick into me from behind. The pounding of his dick in me and the heaviness of his balls slapping against me makes me yell his name in pure unadulterated pleasure.
Nick comes fast and we both drop to our knees on the chair. He rests his body on top of mine. Our hearts pound as we steady our breath. “Baby, I missed you.” His breathing is labored.
“I missed you too.” Nick’s absence made me realize how important he’s become in my life.
After dinner, we lay down on the couch spooning. Nick’s lips rest near my ear. “I spoke to my mother on my way here, she called asking how you are feeling.”
“That’s sweet, did you tell her I’m much better?”
“I did, but I told her how concerned I am with how frail you still look.” He rubs my arm and then moves his hand down over my hip.
“And what did she say?”
“The same thing you said, that the weight will come back on quickly. I expected it to be back on already.” He kisses my ear.
“I’ve gained some of it back. I’ll gain it all back, eventually. I was sick for almost seven days and I still don’t feel a hundred percent.” I’ve been exhausted and there are still foods I don’t have an appetite for.
“She asked if we were coming to dinner.” He wraps his arm under mine and rests his hand on my stomach.
“You told her yes, I hope.”
“I told her I would need to check with you, its next Friday.”
“I look forward to it.” I honestly am. I can’t wait to meet the parents who raised such a beautiful man. “Tell me did your mother work, or was she a stay at home mom?”
“A stay at home mom. My father made enough money to support the family on his own. And with five kids my mom had enough to do.”
“I’m sure. When I was young and still had dreams of my future life, I was a stay at home mom with three children. I pictured the perfect life. A handsome successful husband, three children, a beautiful home, a dog.” My voice trails off. I think back to the day when I realized that my dreams needed to shift.
Nick rubs my belly and kisses my hair. “What you have Alex is fantastic even if it didn’t turn out exactly as you planned.”
“I know. I agree.” I believe what Nick says. I do have a good life but I wanted more. “When you grow up so alone, you become desperate to fill the part of your life that is so empty. Children, a family would have been nice.”
“When I think about you I am in aw
e of your resiliency and in that same moment I feel deep sadness.” Nick shudders. “And then I remind myself that you now have me and you will never be alone again.”
My eyes fill with tears. Nick turns my head towards him and kisses my tears. “Alex, don’t cry.”
“Nick, That breaks my heart because as wonderful as that sounds, my past programmed me not to believe it.”
“Well, it’s the truth and as time goes on your beliefs will change.”
“One other thing, did you tell your family I am eight years older than you?”
“I did, but it didn’t come up as an age thing, and anyway eight years is not a big difference. It came up because they asked if you were ever married, or if you have children. I told them you were never married, no children and that because of your age you didn’t give thought to having children at this point.”
“What was their reaction?”
“The first thing my mother said was that you can still have children at your age.”
I never give it much thought, but of course, I can still have children at my age, it didn’t seem like an option due to other circumstances. I was alone for so long after my last relationship I took it off my list. I kept getting older. Eventually, you realize it doesn’t work in the new equation.
“Also, Julia, my oldest sister, married a man almost twenty years older than her, so age is irrelevant in my family. And they know how I feel about you and that’s all that matters to them.” He is quiet for a few minutes. I close my eyes and settle in closer to his body.
“I like to think back to the moment I fell in love with you. I mean right from the beginning I felt something I never experienced with another person, but I think I fell in love with you the moment you held the dying woman’s head in your lap.” Nick reaches his hand out to caress my cheek. “Your reaction…I saw something in you I haven’t seen in another human being at least not in any girl I ever dated.”
I am surprised by his admission. “Nick, anyone would have done that.”
“No, Alexandra, Anyone was there, dozens of anyone’s and what did they do? They stood around with their cellphones gawking. I think of the women I have known in my past and I can guarantee all of them would have made that woman’s suicide about themselves.”
I can hear them now, “Oh Nick, I’m devastated. I can’t believe I witnessed that. I feel so stressed out, I need to call my friends and tell them what I’ve been through.”
“Nick you’re not being fair. I can’t believe the girls you dated were that selfish.” As I stroke the top of his hand.
“I’m probably being generous, most of them would have told me they need retail therapy after that experience and they’d have their hand out for my American Express.”
“Ah yes, the Black American Express.”
“That night I met you, you asked me if that was my go to. I have to admit you shocked me when I found out you had your own. I knew I met my match.”
“We both met our equal.”
We stop talking and remained still. I must have fallen asleep and Nick must have carried me to bed because the next morning when I opened my eyes I was in my bed with Nick’s hand resting on my stomach.
Chapter 14
Alexandra
Nick’s driver, Mike, picked us up from his brownstone to drive us to his parent’s house. My week went by fast. Work kept me busy. Business doubled because of the accounts brought in by the takeover. Even in all my busyness, I still had time to feel a slight apprehension about going tonight. I haven’t met a boyfriend’s parents, and their entire family all in one night, ever!
Nick looks sexy in jeans and a white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled just over his forearms. His chestnut hair flip-flops in different directions and his skin tanned from hanging out by my pool.
Nick holds the door open for me to step into the back seat of the black Mercedes. He follows in behind me, “Alexandra, you look sexy in those white pants. I will have a hard time keeping my hands off of you tonight.” I feel his words between my legs.
“Mike we’re going to my parent’s.” Mike is a big guy with the biggest, warmest, infectious smile. I never asked Nick about Mike picking me up that morning after our first night together. Nick played like he didn’t know Mike, and now when I think of it, so did Mike.
I look over at Nick. “You must have liked Mike after meeting him that morning after our first night together?” Nick smiles at me because he knows what I’m suggesting. “I mean you ended up giving him a job…go figure.”
Nick laughs in agreement. “Yes, go figure.”
It makes me wonder what Nick would have done with my home address. I have a feeling whether I wanted it, or not, I would see Nick again. I laugh to myself because even without Nick and Mike’s help, the universe brought the two of us together.
“Yes sir, Bedford Corners it is. How are you doing this evening? It’s a beaut!” Mike looks at us through the rearview mirror.
“We’re doing well, Mike. How are you and how’s your daughter?”
“Great, great, thanks for asking. She’s performing at Lincoln Center the end of September. Thank you again for everything.”
“That’s wonderful Mike. I’m glad to hear it. See if you can get me two tickets.”
“On it already sir, my daughter already took care of it. She wouldn’t forget about the man that made it all happen.”
“That’s not entirely true. Her talent made it happen.” Nick turns and explains that Mike’s daughter is a talented violinist. I smile up at him and Nick stops speaking mid-sentence. “Mike, I don’t want to be rude, but I need to put up the partition, so I can make out with my girl before we get to my parents.”
Mike laughs from deep in his belly, “Yes sir, I don’t blame you.”
I reprimand Nick for embarrassing me. “Nick, how do you say things like that?”
“Just being honest.” Nick moves his hands around my neck and kisses me. Our tongues move in and out of each other’s mouth than Nick nibbles my jawline until he gets to my ear. His breath on my ear sends chills up and down my spine. His full lips move down my neck until he finds my clavicle. “My love we need to make sure you are eating, you still haven’t put back on the weight you lost.”
I run my hands through his hair as he kisses my shoulder. “I’m trying. I’ve been slightly nauseous. I relapsed midweek when I vomited after I ate. But now I’m starving.”
Nick stops kissing me and asks, “Why didn’t you tell me? Maybe you should see a doctor.”
I feel fine mostly. It was just passing waves on nausea, nothing I thought needed mentioning. “It's nothing serious. I feel so much better tonight. I’m starving.”
Nick presses the button, and the privacy window opens.
“All good?” Mike laughs. He is very fatherly, and you can tell he likes Nick. Who wouldn’t like Nick? He makes it so easy.
“Yes, Mike, excellent, but now I need to get my girl some food.” Nick looks out the window, “Great, we’re almost there.”
Nick’s parents live in Bedford Corners, NY. The community comprising wealthy and upper-middle-class families. The streets are lined with one beautiful mansion after the next. Seeing the way Nick lives I expect his parents live in a mansion.
Nick rubs his hand on my thigh, “Are you excited?”
I look at Nick sideways, “Excited? How about nervous?”
“Don’t be, my parents are the sweetest people. They’ll love you.” Before I can say anything else, Mike turns the car into an elaborately designed paver driveway. “This is it.”
I lean over Nick’s lap trying to get a clear view of the house. It is a stunning Dutch Colonial style mansion. I quickly count, and from the looks of it, there are three floors. It is massive but idyllic. “Nick it’s breathtaking. This is where you grew up?”
“Yes.” Nick swings open his door and reaches for my hand, “Mike, we’ll be late, close to midnight. I’ll call you.”
“Thank you, Mr. Ryan. Enjoy your night
with the folks.”
My hand feels sweaty in Nick’s hand, and he must notice, “Baby, don’t be nervous, I know you will love my parents and they'll love you.”
Before we make it up the long walkway, the front door swings open and standing in the threshold is the familiar face of Nick’s father and the bright smiling face of a woman I have only seen in pictures at Nick’s house. They hold hands at first but then Nick’s mom stretches her arms out to hug Nick.
“Oh honey, I’m so glad you made it.” Nick’s mom kisses his cheek multiple times in the same spot. I stand off to the side waiting for Nick to finish greeting his parents.
When Nick’s mom releases her arms from around Nick, he extends his hand out to his father, and they give each other a one-arm hug. Nick steps back and moves his arm around my waist. “Mom, dad, I’d like you to meet Alexandra. Alex, this is my mom Katherine and my dad, Theodore.”
I extend my hand, but Katherine will have nothing to do with it, she pulls me towards her and gives me a tight hug. Her words muffled by my hair, she tells me she’s so happy to meet me.
“Okay Kate, it’s my turn.” Theodore taps Katherine’s shoulder.
Before Katherine hands me over to Theodore, she takes both my hands in hers and steps back to look at me, “Nick you are right, she’s stunning!”
I don’t know how to greet Nick’s father, so I extend my hand, but like his wife, he wants nothing to do with it. He gives me a big hug, but not as long his wife’s. “We are so happy to meet you, Alexandra. Come in, come in.”
Nick takes my hand as we follow his parents into the house. My eyes light up as I have my first glimpse of the interiors of this palatial home. Luxurious marble floors stretch throughout the large double- height entrance hall with a barrel-vaulted ceiling while an ornate circular staircase invites you to the second floor.
There is perfection everywhere I look. Thick crown molding and columned entryways to each room and from where I stand I have already counted three fireplaces. I am devoid of any words as I take in the beauty of this house, so when Nick glances at me, I give him an Oh my God check this shit out kind of look. But he seems unaffected by it all, and then I remind myself that this is the house he grew up in, this is his normal.
