His head dips as he pulls the cup of my bra down, his mouth moving down and closing over my nipple. My hand automatically goes to the back of his head as I push my chest up, needing more.

He takes that as his cue to pull the other cup down, assaulting that nipple with his fingers and having me moaning so loud that I almost can’t believe it’s me.

The sensations are too much but not enough at the same time. My eyes flutter closed and my hand drops from the back of his head and then he’s gone.

I go to sit up, but his hands on my stomach stop me, and when I open my eyes, I see him kneeling down between my legs, a grin on his face as he undoes the button and zip on my jean shorts.

“So fucking beautiful,” he grits out, pulling my shorts and panties down at the same time, exposing me fully to him.

Heat spreads up my cheeks and down my neck at the sight of him staring at me like I’m his next meal. I desperately want to cover myself, but I refrain and watch as he dips his head, his hands grabbing the inside of my thighs and pulling them apart before he licks the sensitive nerve endings.

My back bows off the bed as his tongue flattens before he sucks as he hooks my legs around his neck and dives in, groaning. I grip the sheets with my fisted hands, the vibrations of his groan have me rifling with need. He looks up at me, his eyes twinkling as he continues to drink me up like a man dying of thirst.

I can’t take my eyes off his as he pulls my clit into his mouth, sucking hard. My back bows off the bed, my hands snaking their way to his head as my hips rock forward.

  “Oh, shit,” I moan.

I crack my eyes open and watch him intently as he stands up and pulls his t-shirt off, exposing his ripped muscles before he rids himself of his jeans and stands me up, pulling my top and bra off.

I lift up onto my tiptoes, my lips connecting with his, not caring one bit that I can taste myself on his tongue.

His erection hits my stomach and my hands wander down, softly feeling my way down his six-pack and down before wrapping my hand around the hard velvet. I grin against his lips as I pull my hand back and forth.

“Fuck,” he spits, his head dipping back before he pulls away and steps back, sitting on the edge of the bed and severing my connection to him.

I frown as he lies down, his hands motioning for me before he says, “Come and sit on me.” I lean forward, about to do as he says but he grabs me, pulling me up. “On my face.”

I gasp, half of me not wanting to expose myself to him, but it’s the half that is turned on beyond belief that has me doing as he says.

My legs come on either side of his head as I slowly lower down, feeling his mouth sucking and licking. My hands wander over my chest as I look down at him, his eyes meeting mine, the look in his eyes almost feral. He grabs my hips tighter, his fingers digging into the soft flesh and expanding around to my ass as he sucks harder.

“Holy shit!” I gasp when his hand slaps my ass cheek, sensations running down my spine, a slow burn crashing down on me. “I’m close,” I moan, rocking my hips on his face. One of his hands worms its way up, cupping my breast and toying with my nipple. The orgasm that was coming slowly crashes down on me like a giant wave in the sea.

I can’t help but throw my head back as I gyrate my hips on his face with even more vigor now. “Oh, God… Evan… yessss.”

His hands squeeze my ass, bringing me even closer to him as he laps me up, eeking out my orgasm.

He doesn’t let up, continuing to until I can’t stand it any longer and roll off him.

Turning my head, a smile lifting up the corner of my lips, my eyes connect with his. We stare at each other a beat before he rolls on top of me, making himself comfortable between my legs and slipping inside without a word said.

“Fuuucckk.” His Adam’s apple bobs up and down as he stills inside me. “So good.”

My eyes flutter closed at the full feeling, basking in how close we are.

“I love you,” I whisper, opening my eyes and cupping the side of his neck as he leans down, capturing my lips in a sweet, gentle kiss.

His nose touches mine as he thrusts inside me making my breath catch in my throat. This isn’t like last time, I can feel every single one of his unspoken words with the way he touches me, the way he makes me feel. I can’t look away from his eyes as I wrap my legs around him, hooking my ankles and digging the pads of my fingers in his back.

His muscles tense as I clamp down on him, feeling for the second time the burn that starts low in my stomach. He senses it and starts to move faster, holding onto my hips and leaning back, thrusting inside me with a bruising rhythm before he tightens his fingers.

“Fuck!” My orgasm rips through me like a volcano erupting and I watch as his eyes squeeze shut before he pulses inside me. He throws his head back, the muscles in his neck straining. His body grows taut and then a couple of seconds later he relaxes and leans down, his lips connecting with mine before he whispers, “I love you too.” He rests his forehead against mine. “So fucking much.”

I feel something stir beside me before a hand lands on my chest. My eyes flutter open and I’m greeted with a mass of dark-brown hair. My gaze roves down her slender neck, and to her chest that moves gently as she takes a breath. I continue down her arm and to her hand that is lying on my chest.

Waking up next to her is unlike anything I’ve ever felt before.

“Morning,” I murmur before pressing a soft kiss to her temple.

“Morning,” she whispers, cuddling up closer to me and placing her head on my chest. “You’re so comfy.”

I chuckle before lifting up and pushing her onto her back, crushing my lips against hers and making myself comfortable in between her legs. She hooks them around my waist, pulling me closer as she licks my lips and I open up, letting her take control of the kiss.

My hips thrust against the panties that she’s wearing as my hand wanders to her stomach. I wanted nothing more than for her to sleep naked next to me, but instead she pulled her panties back on and shoved one of my t-shirts over her head. Right now, I’m wishing that I insisted she wear nothing because I could slip right in and—

“What the…” I pull back as my fingers graze along a scar on her side. Lifting up the t-shirt, I lean back and stare at the scar I didn’t even know she had.

“Don’t,” she pleads, trying to pull the fabric back over it.

“Lexi,” I warn, bringing my gaze up to hers. She knows what I’m saying without me having to say the words—no secrets.

Her eyes glaze over as she looks over my head, her chest rising and falling rapidly. She opens her mouth to say something.

  “Evan!”

I don’t move my eyes from hers as the sound of Ty’s voice travels through the door.

“What?” I shout back, determined not to move.

There’s a beat of silence before I hear more voices and then the handle is turning.

“Evan.” I shake my head, not prepared to have this conversation.

“It’s all good, they can’t get in—”

The door opening has my head swinging around and my hands pulling the covers over us both, my hands clashing with Lexi’s as we both panic.

“What the fuck?” I manage to whip around, keeping Lexi covered as she sits up. “You don’t walk in someone’s—”

“Really?” Ty asks, his brow raised as if to say, “You do it all the time.” And okay, maybe I do walk in without announcing, but this is my personal space, dammit!

I cut my eyes to Lexi, seeing her arms wrapped around herself as her cheeks heat, then another pair of footsteps come up the steps, and another. Before we know it, there’s three men, standing and staring at us.

“You need to get the hell up!” West shouts, his face breaking out into a big grin as his eyes flit between me and Lexi.

“Why?” I ask, exuding calm but inside I’m raging that they’ve come inside my cabin unannounced and when Lexi is here as well, and okay, maybe I’m also pissed because I wan
ted morning sex and they’re totally ruining my chi at the moment. Not to mention the fact that she’s keeping a secret that I want to get to the bottom of.

“Check your cell,” is all Ty says before spinning around. “Warehouse. Ten minutes.”

He lets the door bang shut on the way out, leaving Lexi, Seb, West, and me in my small cabin. I reach over Lex, letting my lips drift over her cheek as I pick my cell up and unlock it.

My eyes widen when I see several messages from Ty, West, Seb, and most importantly—Darrell.

My fingers fly over the screen, opening up the message.

DARRELL: Warehouse at 12… today is the day.

My head whips back over to Seb and West, my eyes wide as I jump out of bed. “Today?”

Their lips lift into grins as Seb says, “Today’s the day that we get him.”

Excitement flows through my veins like lava flowing over the sides of a volcano.

I step around the bed, completely forgetting about everyone that is there as I grab some clothes and head into the bathroom, washing up and brushing my teeth before changing and heading back out into the main room of my cabin.

My eyes meet Lexi’s where she sits, still in the same position as I left her in when I went into the bathroom. I turn to face West and Seb. “I’ll meet you in the warehouse.”

Seb nods, but West stays there as he opens the door, his brows dancing on his forehead and his hips moving forward as he says, “I see you—”

“Finish that sentence, West,” Lex warns, her eyes lighting with fire.

He holds his hands up, backing away before he steps out of the door, slamming it behind him.

There’s a beat before I turn back toward Lex, seeing the questions in her eyes. I let out a long breath, knowing that I’m going to have to explain at least part of it to her instead of leaving her here without an explanation.

I step toward her, sitting on the side of the bed and taking her hand in mine, softly stroking her palm. “I have to go to work,” I say, looking away and debating how much I should tell her. I trust her completely, more than I’ve ever trusted anyone but I want to protect her; and to protect her I need to keep some things from her.

“Okay,” she answers, her voice unsure before she leans forward, cupping the side of my face. “You don’t have to tell me anything if you don’t—”

“I do,” I tell her. “I want to tell you everything, but… I have to protect you, Lex.” I swallow as a lump forms in my throat. “If anything ever happened to you...”

I clench my teeth, hating that I’m showing her this vulnerability. It never goes down well—at least, it never did in the past. I much preferred to keep my feelings inside, not showing anyone. It’s easier to accept if people don’t like you if you’re not showing them the full you, because all it is then is a mirage.

“Evan…” She lifts up onto her knees, cupping my cheek. “Nothing will happen to me.”

“Promise?” I ask, my voice sounding so much like the little boy when I was first adopted.

“Promise.” She smiles, nodding her head as she shuffles closer and sits on my lap, wrapping her arms around my neck.

“This guy,” I start. “We tried to get him years ago, but he got away, and now we’re this close.” I hold my fingers a few centimeters apart. “He’s dangerous, but we can’t work out how dangerous.”

“And today is the day you can get him?” she asks, her eyes bright and a wide smile on her face.

“It is,” I answer, marveling at her reaction.

She jumps up off me, grabbing her shorts and pulling them up her legs. “Then what are you waiting for?”

I watch her, laughter bubbling up as she flits around, trying to find her Chucks and slipping her feet inside them.

I can’t help but be in complete and utter awe over this woman. She could be sitting here moaning about the fact that I have to ditch her, that I won’t be able to take her home. Yet she’s not, she’s literally pushing me out of here as she grabs my hand and lifts me up off the bed and pulls me to the door.

I chuckle, letting her pull me over the gravel and to the warehouse. Everyone is waiting when we get there, Kay and Kitty standing by the door, smiling at us as we walk in.

“Told you she stayed the night,” Kay whispers, although it’s not really a whisper because we can both hear her.

All the other guys are looking at us with looks that I can’t decipher, but it’s the way Ty shakes his head and silently communicates that she can’t be here that has my back straightening.

I know better than anyone that she can’t know what’s going on, but the way he acts toward her riles me up. He’s still judging her on her past and not on who she is.

Lexi must be able to sense the change because she squeezes my hand and then clears her throat. “Kay? Do you think you could drop me home if it’s not too much trouble?”

“I’ve got to head to the shops, you can come with if you want and then I can take you home.”

I give Kay a grateful smile as Lexi nods before I turn to face her, pulling her closer and pressing my lips against hers. “Go back to the cabin, have a shower and chill out for a while.”

Her eyes flit behind me, no doubt toward Ty. “Are you sure?”

I raise a brow. “Of course I’m sure. Go and chill out and I’m sure Kay will come and get you when she’s ready to leave.”

My eyes skirt to Kay and when she nods in agreement, I pull Lexi outside, pushing her against the wall.

I watch her hazel eyes for a beat before I slam my lips down onto hers, relishing in the feel of her against me and locking all of the sensations away.

I still don’t know what this job will be, what we’ll do or how long I’ll be gone.

We pull up outside of the warehouse, West in the back of my car and Seb sitting beside me. The atmosphere is a mixture of apprehension, nerves, and excitement. This is the day that we could put him away for good. The only problem? We have no idea what it is we’re doing or where. We have an idea that it will be with the art gallery, but beyond that, we haven’t got a clue because he’s kept us all well and truly in the dark.

The “âme perdue” has already been delivered, yet he hasn’t made his move.

“You ready for this?” Seb asks, his hand clutching the door handle, his face turned toward me.

My eyes flit between his before my gaze turns to the rearview mirror, connecting with West’s eyes. “Yep.” I push open the door, sliding out of the car and stretching my arms above my head.

I walk around the back of my car, tapping my palm on the trunk. Before I left the compound, I filled it with anything that I thought I may need. My laptop, my adapted surveillance equipment, weapons… you name it, I have it.

No sooner are we all out of the car does the door to the warehouse swing open and four people dressed in head-to-toe black walk toward us.

We all straighten up, feeling an impending threat.

  “What’s this—”

“Boss said to put you in the van,” one of them says, tilting his head to a black van behind us.

My stomach dips, feeling a bad vibe about this whole thing already, but when I open my mouth to say something, I’m pushed from behind.

This isn’t going how I thought it would. My hand clenches into a fist, knowing that I won’t be able to use anything that I brought with us.

I’m pushed again, now only a step from the van as the doors slide open before I get a final push and I fall into it, my hands scraping on the rough surface.

“Hey! Watch it, my hands are my money makers.” I smirk, turning around and rolling my eyes, trying to put on a front when inside I’m screaming that this isn’t what was meant to happen.

“Shut it,” he barks, his deep-blue eyes narrowing in on me.

I crawl forward, making room for Seb and West. They climb in and the door banging shut has us basked in darkness.

“I don’t like this one bit,” I murmur. “Something feels off.”

You can say that again,” West replies.

  “Something feels off.”

He punches me in the arm, and I groan, holding my bicep. “Hey! That hurt.”

“Quit your whining, we need to come up with a plan,” Seb barks.

“Plan?” I chuckle, shaking my head. “There is no plan. We have no idea where we’re going or what we’re doing. All of my equipment is in my car.”

  “Shit!”

“Yep.” I lean back against the side of the van, resting my head on it as I pull my cell out. “They’re blocking the signal.” I push it back into my pocket, knowing that I won’t be able to get word to Ty. “There’s nothing we can do but wait it out.”

I sound calm to my own ears but inside I’m a raging bull, hating that I’m not in control of what’s happening here.

They both turn silent as the van rocks side to side. It must be a good fifteen minutes before it comes to a stop and the door is sliding open again and we’re being pulled out of the van. The sunlight burns my eyes and it takes me several seconds to adjust to the brightness before I see Darrell standing a few feet in front of us, a case hanging from his hand at his side.

“Gentlemen,” he says, a grin on his face. “Sorry about all the secrecy but I’m sure you’ll understand that it’s needed.”

I don’t. I don’t understand one bit why he needed all of the secrecy but I keep my mouth shut, knowing that I need to listen and not talk.

“What’s going on?” Seb asks, taking the lead, widening his stance so that his feet are hip width apart.

“Today is the job.” Darrell holds his arms out wide. “Today you steal me my painting.”

I raise a brow, coughing. “Steal a painting?” Knowing exactly what he’s talking about but playing dumb.

“Yep.” He nods. “These fine gentlemen will take you to the gallery, and you’ll retrieve this piece for me.”

He clicks his fingers and the same woman that is always with him steps forward, holding her arms out and allowing him to place the case on her forearms. He flips the buttons on the side, lifting the top and pulling something out before holding it out to us.
